Just like most pets would, although Guineapigs are not recommended to be placed in a pool to ""swim"" as they can drown, and it can be frightening for the animal. Regardless, bathe the guinea pig when needed (or, i would do around once a week to once a month) and when you are giving them a bath, make sure the water isn't too high, and place a tea towel at the bottom of the sink, they freak out when there is nothing to grip on. • guineapigs have fragile spines, do not lay them on their backs, or send them down slides or even throw them, and the older they are the more easily it is to break it. when the guineapig is in its golden days, don't provide a ramp for them, and leave them on the lower floor of the cage to prevent any accidents! I had experience with guineapigs, but don't call me an expert, I've breed them before but out of lack of knowledge. I did have my turn with them but this is all from prior knowledge and experience.

I see people saying never to bathe guinea pigs, but I've bathed mine twice. They're several years old. Once, one had dihharreha all over her backside, and the other time one had old lettuce juice all over her, there wasn't a way around a bath. I dried them off well and kept them warm, and the older one is still rocking at 4 years. :)

Jessica Prior that is complete and utter nonsense. You don't need to bath your guinnea pigs unless they had diarrhea as stated before. If your pigs are smelly you need to clean their enclosure more often!!! Also the bigger the enclosure the less work is needed. Guinea pigs should have 1 squaremeter per male and half a squaremeter per female as the minimum space requirement and at least 1,50m on one long side for them to run. Additional time outside of their cage is well appreciated. And have at least one house or hide per pig. They should be close enough together that the piggies can see the next chance to hide easily from their current place. Also groups of 3 or more are best for them to show their natural behaviour. No less than 2 piggies period. And guinea pigs are not petting animals. They don't like it generally. Some of them will enjoy a little bit of it but it should never be forced. On the other hand a healthcheck should be done once a week where you weigh them, check their skin, eyes and genital region as well as their feet and cut their nails if needed. Especially documenting their weight is important because they don't show signs of sickness until its too late in many cases. Seeing their weight decrease over a period of time can give you a hint that something is wrong and take them to the vet for a check up early!

Mila is so damn right. One of my guineas came from a family with cats and the kids thought it would be a fabulous idea to put the cat in the guinea’s cage - same story. Ever had a traumatized animal? This is what I got. The guinea pig in the clip tries to escape the nearby cat without triggering the predator instincts. Guineas hate to have body contact, even with others of the same species and of courses getting licked by a killer.
My boys like to play forts w/ their pillows. & Love their tunnels. They don't bother w/ any other toys unless they're trying to rip up something or fight over it. Even tho they got the same amount of toys for each.
Okay listen! I have multiple guinea pigs, and for those who are saying “DONT BATHE YOUR GUINEA PIGS ITS SUPER BAD FOR THEM” actually, it’s good to bathe them. You can bathe them once a month (if you use shampoo) and if you don’t, most people call it play time. Most guinea pigs actually like water. You shouldn’t wash them with shampoo more than once a month but other than that just letting them play in water is not bad for them. My guinea pigs love it.

seeing the CAT all over the Guinea pig is actually pretty cringe-worthy. Cats (and other various animals) should not have physical contact with Guinea pigs. Even *if* the Guinea pig overcame its biological hard-wired instincts and somehow wasn't absolutely TERRIFIED (despite it usually taking weeks just to get used to the friendly food-bearing human) of an actual predator or strange creature, with the physical differences the Guinea pig could still get hurt accidentally. Bear in mind that Guinea pigs will suppress signs of sickness or injury including the extent of their pain, so disaster could have already happened long before you even realize there's any problem so trying to justify this with "it's fine, I watch them closely" doesn't make it worth the risk. Plus the potential *trauma/torture* you're forcing on it just because you want them to behave outside of their norm for your amusement or you think it's cute
While cats, dogs and most any animal could be fine with the guinea pig; the guinea pig could possibly have a heart attack from stress because they have such smaller bodies than cats/dogs. They don't show signs of illness as well as other pets either.
