Slicing and Dicing a Mercury Comet into an Altered Wheelbase Dragster - MuscleCar S3, E13
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 окт 2024
- MuscleCar rolls in a '64 Comet that will be transformed into a retro A/FX straight-axle drag car, Project Altered E-Go. The car is blown apart, then sectioned to bring the rear wheels forward 16 inches. Brent modifies the rear tubs to make room for massive drag slicks while Rick cuts out the rust. Flashback features a 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T.

My dad would of been 83 this year and the comet was one of his favorite cars. He always talked about getting one as a father son project but could never afford it. Nice to see one being fixed up.
If I remember right, this is another Ford project that never gets finished.
@@195048 Well that sucks
I will say that I’m impressed by the skill of their metal work on the body. I’m saving this video to my Automotive How to playlist.
I dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost my account password. I would love any help you can give me
@Tadeo Kristopher Instablaster :)
@Louie Graham thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Louie Graham It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my ass :D
@Tadeo Kristopher glad I could help xD
Thanks for uploading this. Please upload all episodes.
Those mid 60's Comets were so gorgeous and are so rare today I can't stand watching this beauty destroyed. 😢
Love those early Comets. I had a 61 with 4 doors, 2 speeds, and a single barrel 144. Zoom! :P
"The car handles great going straight" quote of the year ;-)
What a pleasure watching that metal work. Y'all make it look so easy. 🤘✌️🖖👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😀
The Merc Comet is going to be fantastic......always one of my fave body styles. My brother had one of these that was a real go-er back in the day...an amazing little car. The R/T Dodge was the car that sold me on my RoadRunner........If they'd had a Dodge in stock at the time.....that's what I would have ended up with but they didn't(except a clapped-out "demonstater") so I ended up with my Plymouth with all the same options.
Spoiler alert. It was never finished, at least not on TV. It disappeared from the show when Rick Bacon left.
I miss doing this type of work I will be back at it soon I'm in a complete life start over got few hurdles to git over then IL be clear to do some car building...
This is very interesting job and hardworking job.rusty car remaking.excellent and skilled worker.thanks
@powernations Really you guys got Marvalous skills plus talents... 🤗👍👌❤️💕
You guys need to bring that car back so we can see it finished!!
8:42 great welding helmet Rick!
Famous "safety squint"
you're his mom?
I'm jealous of those side burns
Can’t wait to see the finish product of the Comet
You’ll be waiting a very long time. It was never finished (on TV at least, doubtful if it was finished off tv either). The project stopped when Rick left the show and was never mentioned again.
In the mid 60' Comets ruled the A/FX and B/FX classes with drivers like Ronny Sox and Dyno Don Nicholson
And Jack Christman with his direct drive nitro burning sohc 64
@@blairberg1081 yep, his 65 is still around. Back in the late 80's Jim Barillaro (sp) was able to track it down and restored back to Jack's 65 set up, Jim has since passed away but his sons still take to events.
This is cool, my dad just recently got a 64 comet with a 200cid with a 2 speed and it's a fun car
I love the 60s muscle cars I had a 69 Roadrunner best car I ever owned
Brent dope with tha melt 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love the F/X project.
That’s a fine axx car, and you’re just hacking it up !😮😢
One of the best casts
I bent a pc of sheet metal over my neighbors head like you suggested and now im facing aggravated assault charges...thanks,Slick Bacon😢
I love this stuff!!!!!
You guys should try the old school pressure pot gun system for priming a freshly blasted body. Saves a little time even with clean up.
I used to race a '64 Comet Gasser at San Antonio Drag Raceway...what a beast! I still love those lines...
Me and my buddy russel made a rocker panel for a '27 oakland 6 using muscle and a power pole while we were at NADC.
Love the 69 Coronet R/T's.
Great project!
I remember when the Arsonist was working MC with Lou. Those were the days. But Ole Tommy is ok too.
I'm restoring a 65 2door sedan and I'm 21. If I keep it my whole like this will be what I do to a sister car that's similar just afx
Lets see... I never done a Altered car before, so lets jump right in. But that Firebird is to bad, so lets send it to Year One.
Please do it justice, and power it with a bad ass 427 (or bigger) Ford FE!! Please don't put a F'n Chevy in it!!
I say a 428! That would be awesome.
Except that the car has probably been finished for the past 10 years. I remember this show used to air back in like 2009
427 is a Chevy engine
I wake up early to catch your videos 😋
Erick A I wake up when I want to because I will still be able to see the videos without sacrificing my beauty sleep.
What if I told you the videos will still be there for years to come.
I am sure that some people make the mistake of not realising how much sand is 'lurking' inside the body after it has been blasted. HA - and me being 'guilty' of that fact many years ago - with sand exiting areas during top coat stages = not good. I learned my lesson - as in - just because it looks clean - does not mean it is - HA - lesson learned the hard 'gritty' way. Have a nice day all. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
Nice car, amazing
outstanding!!!
About time!
Nothing like metal porn! I love it
Shot in the dark but if yall get rid of any chrome trim off the body i will buy it!! Ive got a 64 caliente. I literally am missing one piece off the passenger side and its proving difficult to find.
Try finding body parts for a 1963! Or a padded dashboard.
THAT TRIM IS A 202 MODEL ( PLAIN JANE BASE MODEL) CHROME OUTLINE ONLY,THE 404 MODEL FILLED IN CENTER W/BRUSHED STAINLESS. THE CALIENTE MODEL HAD BRUSHED STAINLESS FULL LENGTH,ABOVE AND BELOW THE EMPTY CENTER SECTION .THE "CYCLONE" HAD NO TRIM AT ALL (JUST THE CHROME LETTERS)....PLUS GREAT FAKE CHROME REVERSE WHEEL COVERS
👍
Muito bom o projeto parabéns.
Now thats a cool project.more of that stuff and shit
I’ve got a Camaro needs sand blasted. Do y’all have info we’re y’all get your sandblasted done
Blast from the Past
Lebanon, TN
Auto Young wow have you read the reviews on this place horrible
How sad, that body looked to be in fairly decent shape. Will be cool if they put in the big 427 FE.
I would think that if you started with a car with a frame versus a unibody would be a lot easier.
I want to see full time episode please guys

I am working on the color me gone altered wheelbase car. Rip Roger 🙏 🪦
Did they ever finish this car I can't remember
That Comet was pretty clean like it was and could have easily been restored but I like they're idea better.
Uhoh, gravel voice is here
You should finish what you have started !
Ivan Tomas don’t worry, stay tuned. They won’t disappoint you.
@@Ubadubarge Stay tuned? It's been 15 years since this project was abandoned.
@@Sir.VicsMasher
Abandoned? They finished the damn car you nut!!!
@@AutoYoung Very classy with the personal attacks. The last time Altered Ego was featured on Muscle Car was Season 6 Episode 13 and was not finished so where can I find the episode where its finished?
@@Sir.VicsMasher
Sorry about that.. Corky Coker, the owner of Coker Tire bought Altered E-Go and Red Sled for his personal collection.
what engine for the AFX Comet?
A 4.6 based mod engine bored and stroked to a 5.0 with a 6 stack EFI system built by Sean Hyland. Made 500hp on engine dyno...
This is an old show. Did they every finish this car or sell it off?
It was finished...
What automatic could be paired with the 289 Hi Performance?
The real question is, why would you have 289 if you don’t know what transmission to use?
What's it in? What year is it? What do you want to do? Auto or manual? T18 or np435. C-3,C4, c5, A4LD... There is alot out there and bellhousing adapters for basically all of them.
I need the trim off that car, I am restoring one. Please contact me . Thanks
What did you do with the trunk sheet metal?
Why does it matter?
@@AutoYoung because I can use the sheet metal on my car
@@terrycarter8929 I think this is ancient, these guys would have most likely dumped everything they did not use, they're no Comet peeps like us.
I wish they had restored it...
What year was this filmed?
2008
I woulda made a Gen 3 Coyote sleeper out of it.
Hi I have 1972 Dodge Dart I want to restore with you thank 🌹🌸
Why bother posting this start to a project build when you never finished it? This project is the biggest black eye to the program.
There were several projects never finished because people left. The PowerBlock has a seriously high turnover rate, especially with Trucks and Musclecar.
@@CamaroAmx "Several" I can't think of any other projects that disappeared like Altered Ego so which ones are you talking about? Excluding the projects that followed Stacy David to Gearz.
@@Sir.VicsMasher it was finished. And damn cool when it was done
@@bmstylee Cool, do you know why was it pulled from the show, or what it ended up running with its NA 4.6L modular during the payoff? How about some links.
cutting up a good comet!
I would have made it a gasser
Oh yeah. Big block with stacks out the hood.
Just wish your shows were a t least half hour
They are a half hour as they aired on TV with commercials. Tells you how much commercials eat up air time. It’s close to 50% of a show’s tv run time is commercials.
why is this video interlaced
Once again, misinformation. Altered wheelbase cars were NOT Factory Experimental (A/FX) cars!
The NHRA F/X classes did not allow radically altered wheelbases. The F/X classes were for current year production cars with certain modifications that were not necessarily available off the showroom floor. It was essentially the top tier Super Stock class.
Now, Chrysler corp. DID try to have their altered wheelbase cars accepted by the NHRA as F/X cars for the 1965 season but NHRA basically said "No freakin' way!" The AWBs NEVER ran in A/FX, B/FX, or C/FX!
When an AWB showed up at an NHRA event they were classified as altereds or even Fuel dragsters!
Quite a few A/FX cars eventually had their wheels moved forward in order to take advantage of the lucrative Funny Car match race craze. The money was good and the cars were very much in demand.
Over the years, the incorrect term has stuck.
This is gonna be a cool project! I will definitely be following it! ( Just don't call it an A/FX! lol)
Well this episode is 12 years old now...
Cut those side burns. You look rediculous. Lol. You're a grown man. Love the show btw.
I wonder if rick has a brother named Kevin
To much wire sticking out weld you guys are stitch weld those panels if you use a very short stick out it much easier and it doesn’t melt the metal
MMM Dodge
In before the RUclips master mechanics and fabricators say how everything they do is wrong and that they could do it better.
hey can i buy all the interior and exterior parts you dont want
I had a Comet just like the one in this video. Sold it and then tried to buy it back later to find out the man crushed it. Made me sick.
ITS A SHAME TO BUTCHER A CLASSIC LIKE THAT
Nah. Make it something interesting and unique. Not a boring old boat.
I’m sorry, I think altered wheelbase cars of any brand are UGLY. I would have kept the Comet’s body unbutchered and put one of those new Godzilla motors in it, and turn it into a pro touring type of car. I would also change the front and rear suspension to one of those Total Cost Involved deals like Stacy David did with that V8 Interceptor Mercury Cougar.
Altered wheel base cars , gassers, and AFX cars look like someone with a sleepy eye did the design drawing.
@@davidnichols1363 there was a reason for this but I still don't like them, lol. Totally impractical and ridiculous, mine won't ever get done like this!
Those car aren’t the easiest to find so I always cringe when I see one get chopped on😩
If that car is b5 blue then the camera did a very poor job. It looks loke a gm blue to me
Ever think it’s your screen???
@@williswhatchutalkinbout4367 sure, but it isn't. I watched a Richard petty video and it looked correct there.
I am interested in leftover parts
Dude, you can't be serious...
@@AutoYoung those cars are rare now
It’s all available from a catalog. What exactly would you do with that old sheet metal? Look at it?
142 dollars what a bargain.
Why is the comet a knockoff impala
poor man's impala
What ever came of this car?
they finished it years ago. they're reairing 10+ year old episodes (previously only available on their website for a subscription fee) in the downtime of all the virus crap putting a damper on filming new episodes.
What happens to that car. I mean who owns it.
Intro please?
Mopar was the first funny car.
what does it take to destroy a classic car if you want a race car just buy some fiberglass and metal tubing and build one now you chopped up a classic how many of these are left
Oh they are out there. But that A/FX or gasser schtick has been done to that. Mine is done as a period correct backroads fun car (one which handles and stops), wouldn't dream of butchering it like this.
No one cares about stock cars. Unless it's rare or worth doing a chalk mark restoration a modified car is more interesting. And if done right significantly more valuable.
That announcer guy sounds beyond ridiculous. Sounds like he is in pain trying to talk like that.
Actually seeing what comes out of that shop in person I wouldn't want to get behind the wheel and actually drive anything they build.
#100. Cut, weld, cut, weld, cut, weld, b*tch about rust, cut, weld....run out of time.
I hate watching you people cut up nice CLASSIC Cars to make “tribute” cars. The Firebird is great as it is. The Comet is a Beautiful car 😢 But you have to cut it up for a “tribute” 😮
SHAME on you
Poor car
So you slice up a perfectly good classic car to make something outdated and stupid. Oh wait... it's a Ford product. Carry on. 😁
Rebuild a 1950 Ford f1 and put a small block Chevy in it with the stock 4 on the floor transmission
@Jacob Mossberger why ?
Noooooooooo this was a great unoriginal restoration!!! Y'all destroyed this car
Unless it's a rare or valuable car this is an improvement.
Another hack job from these guys.
POS now🤬🙄
@Jacob Mossberger because no one wants them. So doing an afx tribute is cool and would be significantly more valuable than a stock and boring Comet.
Too bad they butchered that car
