Bro, so with you. I shoot a lot of high end kids parties. You know, jumping castles, pony rides and kids running and screaming having fun. Even when they sit still, they’re NEVER still. So, for me, that’s where the XT5 is amazing for me and it gets me paid. BUT, it’s just work. When it comes time to photography, I LOVE my X-Pro3, with my manual focus Voigtländer lenses, and I absolutely love the experience. Are my images tack sharp on the eyeball like my XT5 with the new Fuji glass? No. But I can say, the look of the Voigtländer lens, natural vignette, slightly soft and through the viewfinder of my X-Pro3… absolute heaven. Thanks for the video. I really connected with your views.
@@danfarmer_photo I was looking at the 35mm nokton 1.5 ii and I was just talking to someone about the 21mm. Seems like that would be an interesting focal length. Perfect balance between 28mm and 35mm (equivalent)
Thanks a lot Jason! You saved me upgrading my X-S10 for something I do not need. Bought a TTArtisan 25mm „instead“ - lots of fun shooting with this one!
Hey Jason, I can absolutely Unterstand. A couple of month ago I‘ve selled my Nikon Z Camera and Go back to the Camera i already owned in 2013… XPRO1. Now I‘m happy again 😊
I'm 100% with you. Seems like not only tech got to be too much but most photographers became graphic designers spending so much on post edit. This is why I picked up xt3 with manual lenses and I enjoy full manual everything and film simulations. I also picked up x100f and couldn't be happier with xtrans 3 so much character. Excellent video. Documentary style b&w. Subbed
Wow... I could have made this video. Every aspect of the focusing that you mentioned is exactly the same for me. I've never utilized most of any modern camera's (on-paper) potential, because I use these cameras exactly like I did with my 1970s Nikons and Leicas. If you do street photography and understand the DOF scales on your lenses (that have them) then you can beat any autofocus for that type of shooting. Nice to know that I'm not the only one that works this way.
I'm so with you on this ! My current camera is a Fuji X-Pro2. It has all I need, which is aperture/shutter speed/iso rings. That's it. I don't need whatever frames/sec, I don't need fancy autofocus, single point will do, I manage it. And most of the time I use manual lenses which is perfect, this is where I come from anyway ;-) The X-Pro3 has not much that I'd like, except the tilt screen maybe but too expensive just for that. And an X-Pro4 ? I'm pretty sure I'd be like you, I don't need more than I have. ;-)
Still got my Xt1, snap on vintage lenses. They're not super sharp or always in focus but they look great and I'm not overwhelmed with settings. Just focused on making art.
Thanks for the review! This video made me realize that although I do need the 5, it probably will be my forever body. I have the XT3 - my very first flagship camera. I find myself always needing that ibis feature having a long lens and also shooting local music scene at night. Im also dabbling with the idea of doing sports as I love playing basketball. When it comes to street, Im definitely turning that face detection off. I dont use it now with the XT3. It definitely take the fun out of shooting.
Thanks for watching! The ibis in the x-t5 is impressive. I have another video called winter park (something like that) I took a long exposure shot of a creek, handheld, and it’s tack sharp. It was a half second exposure.
As someone who shot color slide film for twenty-five years, I hear you when you say it is too easy. You don't need to know how to calculate an exposure, you have a histogram in your viewfinder. So I have gone back to film cameras for that slower pace and thoughtfulness. I also still have a mirrorless for birds in flight and for the back-sparing flip up screen.
I love this kind of review, make a new perspective to me Sometimes what people doesn't like is something that i searching for, but yeah i upgraded from my X-H1 to X-T5 after i borrowed it and watch some review, and knows the negative side I really want go back to analog but film roll price where i live is going to craaaazy
Right there with you. I have a M10 Leica coming from an Xpro3 which was a fine camera. I was already shooting manual only with Voigtlander lenses so the transition was simple for me. I recently added a monochrome which I love. They are my therapy cameras.
Awesome! I’m looking at either the Leica type 262 or M10. There’s a $1000 difference which is what I paid for my Xpro2. Seems crazy when I say it like that, lol.
@@JLStreetDoc my opinion would be to see if you can reach for the M10, the OVF is better and the camera physical is slimmer and easier to handle (for me). I've seen prices dipping into $3800 territory for a sound model. 😎✌️

I don’t shoot film for many reasons. Yes, I agree, it’s the purest form of photography, but… Film cost too much, I don’t have a darkroom, and no space for one, and I need control of the editing. I shoot raw and full manual, so I don’t let the camera make any decisions and I use a manual lens. As far as the Sony goes, it serves a purpose that the Fuji can’t do. And the menu system is fine, way better than it used to be.
The voigtlander lenses are incredible value and have beautiful color rendering, the fast Nokton series for Leica M mount are amazing (but might be too tight with the super 35 APS-C crop though)
I use a Fuji 35mm on the street and love it. I would like to find something that gives me a 28 or 35 equivalent, but they just don’t make them. Voigtlander does make the 21mm Skopar which is a 31.5 mm equivalent. That might be pretty nice. It’s almost a perfect balance between 28 and 35 which could be very interesting. Thanks for watching!
