Great video - I'll bet I'm the only sailboater watching this and appreciating all the pearls you've shared. One open question I had was how to get the shaft back into the coupler. I had considered possibly using a blow torch, but I did not consider the option of heating the coupler in the oven. Conveniently there is an oven on board, so problem solved! Thank you! ⛵

This video kicks ass! The driveshaft snapped at my prop hub yesterday ('67 Arena Craft w/ a 352 Interceptor and an Eaton 1:1 71C Velvet) and I'm piecing together knowledge on how to fix it. I'll be watching this again!

I did this by putting the bolts hand-tight and then rotating and checking to see that none became loose. The tension on a bolt is possibly more accurate than a feeler gauge and I think I got it that way. 600 hours and its okay!

I have a one piece shaft .. intermediate bearing / steady bearing .. then stern tube housing with cutlass bearing .. the shaft is 4 inch diameter and 20 feet long.. the cutlass bearing wears prematurely.. my question..the weight of the shaft laying on the cutlass bearing .. is this throwing off my reading with the dial indicator?

Tell all those people in the background to pay attention and shut-up! Heck, your trying to teach them a complicated process on how to fix their boat. Send them to the principal's office!
