Hey John! First of all thanks for your video's, they're such a pleasure to watch. And you play like a maniac! Lately me and my friends rolled into the country gentlemen and we love them. So much that we're trying to learn many songs done their way. The only thing is that there isn't much to be found if it comes to banjotabs or video's showing the country gentlemen way. Normally I manage to slow down the song and figure out the tabs 95% accurate I'd say, but it takes me- a second year banjoplayer- a whole lot of time.. So if you like to transcribe more countrygentlemen songs then please do! Even your cover video's help a lot. (And they're amazing) All the best from holland!
John, Have you checked out Bill Emerson playing Matterhorn live with the CG? He didn't capo or spike his 5th string to the high D note. Instead he left his 5th string at an A under his capo. He felt it sounded fuller that way with the two open A notes on the 1st and 5th strings.
@@whatchuwant7588 without making modifications to your banjo, your best bet will be to get a detachable 5th string capo. There are a few different types, but they all basically just clamp under the 5th string.
Hey John I've looked all over RUclips for a example of how to do a simple or backup to this song cant find anything. Any help or example is greatly appreciated . Great video thanks.

The drive comes not just from the simplicity of the solo, but because of Eddie Adcock's attack!
If you want a challenge, try transcribing Eddie's solo on "Heartaches!"
Always loved this song! Just found your lessons, thank you!
Awesome mate. I play a real simple overhand version but love this style too.

Thanks! Any recommendations for songs in that tuning?
If I don’t have the railroad spikes would I just not tune the fifth string so high or would I do something else

Wait
Is that signed by earl scruggs?!?!?!?!
You shoulda played it up to tempo at the end!
Why are they tuned so high? Looks like Mumford and Sons.
That's just how it was done on record.
Eddie Adcock capped at the 7th fret, but Charlie Waller capped his guitar at the 2nd fret.
Cabbage potatoes sausage
Cornbread and some good bluegrass music.
