My cramps were so bad that I would actually faint at least once every month. My flow was extremely heavy as well. I begged my ob/gyn to give me a hysterectomy when I was in high school because my period was so rough on me. My last period lasted 3 months straight and I finally got my hysterectomy when I was 29 years old. I have never been pregnant (which is fine because I never wanted children) and once I got the hysterectomy I began to have a life.
3:36 LMAO that made me think of the meme that's like "when my uterus realizes we aren't having a baby after building up a lining for three weeks" and then there's a picture of a woman yelling "I decorated! I cooked! I made it nice!!" 🤣
I used to have really bad cramps during my cycle but after having two kids they’ve gotten so much better I hardly even notice my cycle now when it comes! 🥰
Do prostaglandins also cause contractions in bowels and muscles? I swear i can feel my whole lower abdomen trying to leave my body during my periods, not fun not recommended
Yes. It's not common, but for some of us lucky few. The bowels can get confused and think they are supposed to cramp too... I know sometimes my lower back muscles also join the cramp party, but that's not very often... I find taking Imodium, or another brand of diarrhea medication makes the bowel cramps go away... but be prepared to not have a poop for your entire period... thankfully mine are only 3-4 days long, so going 4 days without pooping doesn't make me too impacted.

They were more like labor pains in the timing and severity. The longer the cramping, the more severe they were and timed closer together. I also had dry heaves and cold sweats. My whole bed and pillow would be soaked. Like toxic shock syndrome. They lasted 7 to 10 days and was a 14 days to 21 days cycle. I'd sometimes stop for just a few days and then start again!! My last period lasted 3 months straight and I finally got my hysterectomy when I was 29 years old. I have never been pregnant (which is fine because I never wanted children) and once I got the hysterectomy I began to have a life.
The uterus looks small, but those smooth muscles are dense and they are strong! The cramping is something else.
“If you’re equipped with female reproductive anatomy”
How politically correct lol 😂
Lol. Totally unintentional. Mostly just the nerd coming out...
@@theanatomylab hey, nerds are the new jocks. Nerds get that bank 🤑
Because it’s not only girls
@@theanatomylab only women have a female reproductive anatomy.
@@Luciapedagoga_ ???
3:36 LMAO that made me think of the meme that's like "when my uterus realizes we aren't having a baby after building up a lining for three weeks" and then there's a picture of a woman yelling "I decorated! I cooked! I made it nice!!" 🤣
That's pretty much how our uterus reacts, brilliant
Does RUclips monetize these videos? This channel seems like something that they'd stupidly punish.
They are allowing us to operate freely with the content we have released so far! So we are grateful for that! Thanks for the support!
@@theanatomylab I plan to become a cardiothoracic surgeon so I really appreciate these anatomy videos
@@sidneyj1324 That's awesome! Glad we could help!
soo...... the day I start my period is when youtube decides to recommend this to me....... great, now even youtube knows when I'm on my period.
I used to have really bad cramps during my cycle but after having two kids they’ve gotten so much better I hardly even notice my cycle now when it comes! 🥰
This amazing process hurts like shit
Anatomical awesomeness... best thing I've heard all day 😆
Thanks for watching!
Learnt more from this than I did at school! Thanks!
Oh and thanks for wishing my uterus the best. xD
Lol, no problem! Thanks for watching!
School will never teach you what you wanna know and will fill your brain with useless information :(
Would love for you to cover things like PCOS and Endometriosis!
I'm loving that a guy is explaining this. 2020 is not so bad after all
All of the diagrams of the female reproductive system lied to me terribly about the actual size of things. I'm mind blown.
Do prostaglandins also cause contractions in bowels and muscles? I swear i can feel my whole lower abdomen trying to leave my body during my periods, not fun not recommended
do you get the lightning strike pains too?!
Yes, and can cause diarrhea. Fun.
@@jaeljones8711 yes me too!! Thought it was just me omg
I poop over 20 times on the day 1 of period cramps. 💀
This potential series sounds great! It might be great to talk about the connection to migraines, why do we sometimes bleed during the cycle outside of the actual menstrual period, what happens during menopause and what happens during the 6 weeks after pregnancy. :)
Absolutely! This series will allow us to go in so many different directions. We decided to start with "how it's suppose to work" then that will make it easier to dive into when things go wrong. Thanks for the suggestions!
What a blessing of a person he teaches not only anatomy but while doing so teachers many other things when it comes to speaking in terminology and then he makes puns about it... a true teacher
I love that this boy knows more about the menstrual cycle than some other girls. :)
Don't you wish there were more guys out there like this one!?!
Well ... this is an intellectual way to tell your kids where babies come from.. I guess
Lol. If you have kids please let us know how this conversation goes!
Institute of Human Anatomy should i show them your videos instead 🤔
Lol I've told my stepkids the scientific way the body works along with the reproductive system. As long as I don't say penis or vagina they asked questions and listened. Those words made them uncomfortable lol. They were like preteen age.
@@mindyb1986 Yea, I'm 14 and don't really like talking about periods but I watch a lot of videos to learn on my own so I don't have to talk about them. Idk why but it's just embarrassing to me

Gosh... Perfect timing, I am currently experiencing some of the worst cramps I have ever had :’) Thank you for this video!

I'm always surprised by how small the uterus is considering how much pain it causes.
Him: smooth muscle contraction ...
Comment section: excruciating torturing radiating pain!!
I’m dying these days from pain and this is the first video yt recommends me 😭🤌🏻
Love your videos. Gonna watch this my husband. We enjoy watching these awesome and informative videos. Even though I'm in the medical field, I always learn something new.
this is the perfect length n perfect amount of info/video!!
Thank you! It was originally 30 minutes long! Hence... we decided to break it up into 4 videos.
Hello!thank you for these videos. I'm. Really interested in them and I always love to learn something new for the human anatomy. Hope you will keep doing them!
Thank you! We will keep doing videos!
Very well explained !
I suffered this severe pain during my examinations even , could hardly breathe in that pain 😥
I’m lucky I don’t get cramps because I had them a few times and passed out. I don’t get why passing out and cramps are seen as like a non-issue. With that and the risk of over bleeding is pretty debilitating for women every month. Yet we’re supposed to function like men as if we don’t have this monster going on 🤷♀️
I started at 9 and stopped when I was 51. I had horrendous cramps, dry heaves, cold sweats, diarrhea and very heavy flow. They were more like labor pains. The last ten years of mine, I had my cycle every 2 to 3 weeks and lots of clotting/sluffing. Sometimes as big as the palm of my hand. I always had horrendous cramps. None of my jobs ever understood what my cycles were like!!

I’ve just discovered your channel a couple of days ago and I’ve been binge watching your videos!
Funnily enough, I’m watching this right now while I’m on my period. Thank you for giving us fascinating insight about our body!
So glad I found your channel! Your videos have the kind of stuff I wanted to learn in high school anatomy and health class and instead I just got a repeat of what I'd already learned previously plus a flour baby and a rat, cat, and sheep eye dissection.
Oh man...I just found my new favorite channel on RUclips 😂 absolutely fascinating!
I always thought babies grew in the stomach (when i was younger) 😂😂
Then they would be digested

I was never so happy then that day in my 40s that Miss. Period stopped coming around. No more cramps! Yippee.
I went 10 months w/o a period, but then Aunt Flo came back from her extended menopausal vacation. Now not only am I in pain, I have start my countdown all over again. grrr!

I died at how casually he said: "Take a look down here at the cadaver."
I WISH my period was only 3-5 days! Mine is always a week long minimum!!
Same
I cramp for 2-3 days(I basically cramp for 2 days) I don't really keep track of when I stop bleeding but my mom suggested that I should.
Also don't you just wish that girls could just sleep for five days and not deal with the pain. That would be nice😌
Mines always five days but it's weeeird, like it stops after 2 or 3 days and then it starts up after 1-2 days off and goes for another 2 or 3 😐 I wish mine were nonstop, even if it went a week
If your period lasts longer than a week, see a doctor.
Who's watching this while having THE WORST period cramps ever 😵💫
Had my eyes on the cadavers in the background to see if any of them just decided to sit up...
I started tracking my period a few months ago, using an app, and it’s the best thing I ever did. Especially when it’s PMS time...
Lmao, same. No more waking up with ruined underwear 😂😂
Dejuh Vuh For the reason below! And also so I can make plans around my period (I’m not on any birth control) as well to see if I’m genuinely annoyed about something or if it’s my PMS...

And I'd probably feel bad for myself except ik more than half of the world population struggles w this and most of them have it worse than I do so 🙏😌 thankfully it's not as bad as it could be
