Great video, I go to Berryessa all the time because I live in Vacaville . I have spent many days and hours tolling for those kings and giant rainbows with just a little bit of success. Super impressive for you to go out there and do as well as you did. Look forward to your next video👍
Awesome job guys. Watched the whole video. My son and I miss fishing for king salmon 🍣 on the banks of Sacramento River due to the closure. It was nice seeing you guys catch them salmon in the lake. Subscribed!
We miss it too! I spent most of my fall weekends fishing that river, but right now Berryessa is trying to make up for it! Thanks so much for subscribing, we really appreciate the support and hope you enjoy more of our videos to come
What part of the lake should I target this time of year (July). I'm on a kayak with a downrigger and also a lead core line. Bait and speed would be awesome too if you don't mind sharing. Thank you
So I would target the edges of the channel or even straight down the middle of the channel. You can fish it from the dam all the way out into the open lake. Once you find a few concentrate in that area for a while. Sometimes we just get in the old River channel and never turn around from the dam to the big island but the narrows hold bigger fish on average from what we see
Thank you and a very informative video. I do have a question which is your 3 hook shade leader. Is it self tied and can that kind of leader be purchased somewhere?
There’s multiple ways to tie the sliding hook. The easiest by far is to buy bobber stops from Amazon which are pre-tied and just slide them over the sliding hook. It’s quick, simple and effective. The ones I buy are the Thill premium bobber stops for fishing floats.
How much line are you letting out before putting the snap weight on?.... After snapping it on, how much line do you let out? How far does the weight go down? Thanks
Before snapping the weight we put out 30-50 feet of line. After the snap we put out an additional 100 ft. This is just a general guideline, depending on how deep you want to fish or the clarity of the water you can always adjust the amount of line.
@@EpicFishingVibes Thanks for the reply....Is it how much line you put out before the snap that controls how far it goes down or the line after the snap? Thanks!
No it’s the amount of line after the weight. From weight to rod tip. Say you let out 50 feet after weight you’ll get down say 10 feet if you let out 100 feet you’ll get down around 20 depending on line size and weight size. The best way to know how deep you are is trial and error you’ll get the hang of it.
No kidding most of the video was taken before they even woke up lol. I will say once they start skiing the fishing gets a lot slower and pushes them a bit deeper
No size limit on landlocked kings. We do kinda of all police ourselves as recreational fishermen,we personally do not keep small landlocked kings or Kokanee as they are next years big fish. Those 1-2lb fish are next years 3-5lb fish or bigger
Yes the ocean salmon season is closed, but you can still fish for land locked salmon. That’s the salmon that are in fresh water and can never make it to the Ocean.
@@HENRY-us5fc at Berryessa you can keep 5 salmon a combination of Kokanee and kings and you can have 5 rainbows so you can keep 10 fish total as long as 5 are salmon and 5 are trout
You’re completely correct on the size of the salmon in the Sac River, but since the season is closed lake Berryessa has some of the only legal King Salmon Fishing left in the state
Great job and very educational
Learned a lot about Berryessa salmon fishing 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks you very much. We are super happy that you enjoyed it. We will have a new video coming out soon
Another great video guys!

Are we allowed to keep salmon? I thought they closed it in california?
Yes we are allowed to keep and fish for land locked salmon. The state only closed the the season for ocean salmon.

Only remaining king salmon in Cali? Sacrameto river has king salmon and some of the biggest in the entire west coast.
That we are not allowed to fish. We’re talking about fish you can fish for
