As a lifelong Sierra/Space Quest fan, this is undoubetly one of the greatest fucking things I've ever seen! Kudos to the editing! And the VOICE ACTING!! Youve done it true justice.
This was such a surprise to find on my subs! The writing, music and voice acting were a blast to listen to. The voice performance on the Navigation Droid alone had me cracking up. The whole thing nailed the spirit of the adventure, and I can't wait to see more of these! Great job to Troels and everyone involved.
We used to joke about "the Space Quest movie" when we were on the SQ message boards in the 90s. This didn't start out with the intention of becoming "the Space Quest movie" - it started out with me just wanting to write new music for SQ1 - but I'm glad the project ballooned a bit in scope.
It should have ended with: "Thank you Roger, now just hand me the data cartridge with the star generator plans so we can save Earnon." "Sure, I have it right... (pats pockets) right..." (flashback to leaving it on the planet) "Crap... I'll be right back."
@@spacequesthistorian Since when does Roger ever get things right? There can be a post-credits scene when he slinks back up to the near-empty podium, the crowd long departed, and hands them the data cartridge. I'd imagine they'd tell him to mop up on the way out.
Again, not a bad idea. ☺️ We opted for the post-credits sequence where Ken Williams voices the guard who asks Roger, "Have you played King's Quest II?" It's an admittedly pretty obscure reference to a behind-the-scenes story (that Ken put it in without Scott Murphy's knowledge and Scott was pretty pissed about it), but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have THE ACTUAL Ken Williams voice that line.
@@spacequesthistorian I guess that explains why the 2 guys slipped those Space Quest eggs into Kings Quest II. I think in later versions Ken swapped it with a KQ trailer or somesuch. We can include my edits in a fake outtakes or alternate endings version, kinda like CLUE. "But here's what really happened..." @@hotlavatube That's true about the KQ2 hole in the rock! And, yes, in the Apple IIGS version, it was swapped out for a plug for King's Quest III. I actually covered all that in my KQ2 video: ruclips.net/video/DRx0TIkfTl0/видео.html
Thank you! I love referencing that melody because it's so iconic and instantly recognizable, like the Indiana Jones motif or the spaceship refrain from Close Encounters. I recently did a reworked soundtrack for an as-yet-unreleased Space Quest III remake where I wrote a bunch of new music for the bits where the original game was silent. One of the things about the SQ3 soundtrack is that, although it's absolutely fantastic, it only ever references the Space Quest theme in the intro and for one of the death jingles. So I made a point of reintroducing the Space Quest theme melody as often as I could in the new music, and even snuck it in in some of the remixes of the original tunes.
@@spacequesthistorian Looking forward to it. Incidentally "Roger Wilco" was my first handle online, before the Internet days, so you're speaking my language here!

Amberle did such a great job with the voice. She prepped by drinking a whole pot of extra strong coffee. The outtakes are hilarious. At one point she loses her place in the script and starts scrolling through it with the mic still on, humming the Space Quest theme in an increasingly demented way. 😅
Wait.. Am I the only one seeing the plot of Halo:CE from 2001 taking a lot of inspiration from this game? Like, Escaping the spaceship (Arcada/PoA), crash landing on a planet (ring), going deep down in caves (control rooms) and meeting an all-knowing thing (Guilty Spark the monitor, or, Gravemind from halo 2) who gives you tasks (retrieving the Index), boarding other spaceships, and finally self detonating a spaceship and escaping ... Huh. Also, is that a Dune reference at 7:21 onwards too? And of course, Star wars ;)
That was fantastic! That is what every fan made movie should be. Absolutely brilliant! I was laughing so much I was almost in tears. The Bar Patron and Droid are my favorites. Love a good Australian accent and a good smart ass robot.
Thank you! I'm very glad you liked it! You'll be happy to know we're bringing back the nav droid in the SQ2 movie, and the guy who voiced the bar patron (his name is Michael Counsell) has a much more prominent character in it as well.
Thank you! This was one of the best projects I've ever worked on. Fun fact: Amberle, who voiced the droid, drank a whole pot of coffee before recording her lines.
I think this video does a good job of illustrating why video games and movies are different media. For all of the original Space Quest's cinematic qualities, it's ultimately just a monologue, with few other characters. Actual films have multiple characters, more action, cutaways to what other characters are doing, etc.
This is very much true. And it's one of the major reasons why we are taking some liberties with the upcoming SQ2 movie and introducing new characters for Roger to talk to along the way.
This was great! This is how video games movies should have always been made. I'd like to see videos like this of other Sierra games too, if you were up to it.
Thank you! We had great fun making this. We've been planning to do a SQ2 movie for the longest time, but we got a bit ambitious with it, so it's been stuck in development hell for ages now. I don't think I'll be doing "movie adaptations" of any other Sierra games as they aren't as near-and-dear to me as the Space Quest games; sorry.
Ah, Machinima at it's finest! I enjoyed that, verily. You really emphasized Roger's bad luck/good luck - rather holy luck when gambling, if only that ever happened. Perhaps that's what it looks like from Roger's POV when we're save scumming! You also seemed to paint him as quite the hero, he didn't really question for a moment that he'd endanger himself doing as Dr. Slash wanted. I thought you advocated the opposite lol! It'd be sweet if there were a way to get some of the Roger deaths in the movies somehow, like if he was imagining how each situation could go wrong (though that could possibly be overdone) - maybe a bloober reel, I'd wager Robert Menes could have a lot of fun voicing many of those grizzly endings! Great job from Josh Mandel, but I'm surprised he didn't play the Xenon leader, blatant disregard to SQ1VGA's claim that King Graham was the King of Xenon. ;D Yall'are doing god's work here.
Thank you! Actually, I thought I had kept it quite ambiguous whether Roger was being heroic or not. I didn't want to push my viewpoint on the viewer; I wanted it to be as open-ended as the game made it. Roger never has a heroic speech and says he's going to save the day. He's just going because if he doesn’t, he has no home to go back to. And "all he wanted was a little nap." So you can read that as heroic or as selfish self-preservation. That was the intent I was going for, anyway.
This is such a gem, Troels! Well done! I am gonna watch it in smaller portions though. Don’t want it to end. If you ever need a Vohaul or alien voice I’m your man. 😈

We've finished the script for the SQ2 movie and we're going to do voice recordings for it soon. After that, we'll edit gameplay footage and new animation to fit the voices. It's going to take a while but the project is underway.
Why voice quality is so poor? Excellent nostalgy trip, i played Gold Rush in holidays and i get golden memories from the time when computers were wood and men iron. Sudden deaths and dead ends.. Just wonderful!
When you walk into the wall before going to the computer break room, you should have said maybe i should drink less and not always be drunk passed out in the closet. The sequel script is going to be a bit awkward.
"Fuck this puzzle. Fuck this puzzle. Fuck this puzzle ESPECIALLY-"
Oh, we're taking our liberties... 😅

That was so fun!
Will u do more? Space Quest 2 maybe king's quest the movie? I wish we could have seen Sierra become open world like mass effect king's quest like Skyrim. Space Quest movie, they did want to make movies, but it never did happen as it was shut down soon after it was started. anyone know what movie if any they had plans of?
Space Quest II - The Movie is in the works. We've been writing the script for a long time now, but it's almost nearly complete.
Great cgi. Better script than independence day.
It's amazing what they can do with computers these days, isn't it?
We need a movie like this based on all games. Although I doubt sq5 and 6 would be hard to make it funny as this lol
We've been working on SQ2 the Movie for ages now. Still in the script stage but very, very close to being complete.
@@spacequesthistorian awesome! I'll give it some time! Thx for reply
@@timothyvanringelenstijn5987 You'll probably have to give it more than some time... We're not very quick about these things. 😅 Sorry.
@@spacequesthistorian I am a patient man. Do not worry.
Great movie. Have you ever thought about making an adventure game out of it?
I think it's been done.

Nobody skedaddles better than him when death approaches!
**ALSO, WHERE OR WHEN WILL SQ2 MOVIE BE RELEASED??????**
Wilco's Mind. :)
Big up to Ross Scott, a genius beyond recognition.
If Only...
Though damn this looks COOL AS HECK.
😳
If only? It's absolutely a real thing. The premiere is live tomorrow.
@@spacequesthistorian *I CAN'T WAIT.*
@@ShadeMeadows Hope you'll like it!
@@spacequesthistorian I'm sure i will!🎉
I'm about to drink so much Iron Bru!!
That's the way to do it!
When you walk into the wall before going to the computer break room, you should have said maybe i should drink less and not always be drunk passed out in the closet. Maybe not that makes roger look bad, maybe note i should not have parried so hard lass night as to why he was drunk passed out in the closet.
