I have been going through your videos for few days now. You are making things very simple to understand. Leave the terminology aside, that's only for exams. We as marine engineers should actually understand the working principle. And that has been explained in real simple words as we all actually require working on ships. So thank you sir for putting in all the effort in making such informative videos. Please keep on making videos

    I have a question.
Let's consider that the ship has been laid up for about a month and after that the engine and the whole refrigeration plant is being started again.
Initially, the refrigerant would be stored in the receiver (if I'm not wrong) in the liquid form and then the whole process would start.
    My doubt is:
How is this system started as the refrigerant is in the liquid form and the cycle starts from the compressor.
What is the means to convert the liquid refrigerant from the liquid form to the vapor form so that it can be fed as suction to the compressor.

Yes u are absolutely right if the plant is stopped for a month then remaining refrigerant is collected in receiver and it is STILL PRESSURISED
So, when u need to start again, then simply line up the plant by opening the Receiver outlet valve, then allowing refrigerant to pass through the EXPANSION VALVE and then start the COMPRESSOR.
So just only compressor is not started so to answer your question Refrigerant is pressurised and then it pass through expansion valve then only Compressor is started.
Details discussion on Expansion valve :

sir, @4:36 1st stroke of compressor will be suction stroke or expansion stroke?
I`m bit confused at this point, someone please correct if i`m wrong.
