Absolutely beautiful shots John. Nice comparison between the 2 lenses. That 100-500mm is magic (expensive) but an amazing lens for Canon RF mounts. Well done on putting the video together my friend. Really enjoyed watching 👍🙏
Thank you Adrian! It is about the same price as a used PF 500 - not cheap but inexpensive the grand scheme of what the new lenses are going for these days. It is one of the second sharpest lenses I have shot. The sharpest is my old Nikon 300mm F/2.8. The weight is comparable to the Nikon 200-500, I had it on order on sale but the company called me and wanted to make sure I knew it was a grey model.... I said no. For now, really enjoying the the 700mm of the PF500 and 1.4 tele. Just a beast of a set up - video up soon!!! I want to say thank you thank you for watching my stuff. 🙏🤗❤
Awesome work mate! Love the quality shots you got with both lenses. It’s crazy how good that EF lens still is & the RF is ofc. Top notch! Thanks for sharing bud!
Peter!!! Thank YOU for watching. This is an amazing lens. I was commenting to Adrian that this is in my opinion, the second sharpest lens I have shot. The first is my old Nikon 300mm F2.8. I want to rent the version two that you use as a comparison sometime in the spring for butterflies and dragonflies. Nothing is perfect, but man this is an awesome lens!!! 🙏🤗❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I am just out to share the joy. I have an addiction for spending way to much for gear I cant afford.... but hey, if they keep giving me credit, I am going to keep using it - their bad!! 🤣 I have been doing this a long time and I just want to share. Everyone has preferences and we all have our own styles. I just try to talk about the gear I am using and hope someone finds it helpful....... and I get to share. 🙏🤗❤
Bill!!!! The best shots I have had, or the sharpest were with this lens on the R7. I will keep renting it for the summer, but really looking forward to what the Z9 will do in summer!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Bill!!! 🙏🤗❤
Thank you, thank you! It was the easiest way I could think of to keep track of what with which lens. If I have a picture the lens in the bag, then it is the start of a new series with the other!!! I can do it in the folders when i upload to the computer, but this is quick and easy!!! 🙏🤗❤
Thanks heaps for sharing. One thing I didn't hear you address was focus speed difference. I have the old EF 100-400, and want to upgrade to the RF 100-500, but I want faster focus speed on my R5. Please reply with your opinion on the difference in focus speed.
You know, I was not even paying attention to that. It was fast enough that I was not worried about it. There are so many thing s that effect the focus speed. The distance setting on the lens, how busy the background is, how close you are to your lenses minimum focus distance. 🙏🤗💖
I purchased an almost new ef 100-400 4.5 l for my r6 ll, got it for 1000 and not a mark on it, I have the rf70-200 2.8 to compare, and the focus speed difference is very noticeable but still get amazing shots with the old girl, just a few more to go into the trash. I could not justify a 4500cad lens for the odd soccer game or some wildlife for the 100-500
One the many wonderful things I can say about Canon - all their old and new stuff works flawlessly together. The RF is an amazing lens but the old EF 100-400 is too. I really want to try version two sometime soon to compare to my older version one! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 🙏🤗❤
Absolutely. I am not a fan of reviews that say this is definitive or this is what you should get - we all have different wants and requirements - weight, price, reach, cost etc, and I just try to show how each works. For many the EF 100-44 II is a dream lens - I still have version one that I will be shooting later today. Your V2 is an AMAZING lens and there is no need to switch. I like my V1 better than the new RF version just because my old lens is faster. For many, the new lighter RF version is better. We all want something new, but the best is the one you take out and have fun with. Plus, I believe that the passion of the person behind the camera matters as much as the gear - enjoy that set up and thank you!!!!!! 🙏🤗💖
You have gotten some really nice shots with with of those lenses ! I'd especially love to have that RF 100-500. But realistically speaking, I just don't shoot that close / wide very often. If anything, I might eventually get the RF 100-400. On the other end of the spectrum though, I'm finally able to get close enough for most of the stuff I shoot, with the RF 800 F11 + R7 combo for a (kind of) equivalent of 1280mm :) Loved it so much, I got the RF 600 F11 as well. And I can choose whether I use them on my R5 or R7. Then, with my 1.4 TC, I have lots of options :)
Sounds awesome. All of those are super lightweight. If i want to shoot almost at that focal length, I have to put my heavy 5000 F4 on the R7 with a 1.4 tele. Super heavy but I love the quality. Trade-offs to match out styles. As long as we have fun, what more can we ask for!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. 🙏🤗❤
The new one is amazing, but the 100-400 that I have was the original. I still like it better than the new RF version that I rented. I dump more than I keep anyway to it is a OK for me. I only need one... or twenty to make me happy!!! 🙏🤗❤
I own the EF100-400, and I have used the 100-500, and I found them BOTH to be equally fantastic lenses, with equal sharpness. But since the EF100-400 is almost HALF of what the RF costs, the EF-100-400 is a FAR better value! Not to mention the EF if much more sturdy construction. Honestly, the RF being made mostly of plastic, it feels cheap!
I have Vi of the 100-400 and I know the V2 EF is pretty awesome, but I have to say the new RF 100-400 is AMAZING and at a super low price. I have a new video showing both ont the RR50 no less!! Cant go wrong for sure no matter which you use. 🙏💖🤗
Awesome comparison Sir. Rf100-500mm is a monster lens.. Id do anything to get it sadly it's way out of my reach😢 anyone with spare? 😂on the other hand EF 100-400 is a supreme lens especially combined with Canon 90d!!
It is pricy but in the grand scheme of lens prices..... LOL My copy of the EF 100-400 is l old and I do want to try version two on the R7. For me, I was not happy with the RF version of the 100-400 and really glad I rented it instead of buying it. The lens I bought I got used - win win! 🙏🤗❤
@@JonnyPink65 definitely it's a pricy lens but good... Oh I thought your ef 100-400 was version II. Still does amazing job. Version 2 is awesome. I tried rf100-400mm on rp n wasn't satisfied
You may be correct - I have not tried that lens since I own the V1 and have been reluctant to spend money to rent the V2. Comparing the two, I the RF 100-500 is a better lens. At some point, I do plan on renting the V2 for a comparison but I keep spending that money elsewhere!! 🙏💖🤗
Thank you. Will keep using my 100-400ii on the R7, goes with 5d4 when other jobs needed😄
The 100-400 - both the RF and the EFII are both fantastic lenses!! 🙏💖🤗
