Joel's story is such a blessing! The whole congregation laughed after the pause: "I died... no I didn't die." and "Things happen when you get married." flip screen his daughter Lol. I saw Joel all the time heading to Apologetics last semester and he was always saying something funny! He has a great attitude and a wonderful servant spirit about him (we interrupted a few times with qustions). So cute how he IMMEDIATELY moved closer to his wife on the couch with a grin. This truly encouraged me. :)

God is in the business of redemption indeed! He leaves us speechelss time and time again! The things He does we cannot comprehend. The love He has we cannot understand. Because there at the cross he opened wide his arms and laid his life down for us all, so that you and I, although unworthy can have the privilege to be called his children.

Thank you for sharing your story and allowing God to use you with a beautiful ministry in a powerful way. I live in Denver, NC and my daughter graduated from Montreat College in 2003; she’s living in St John’s FL with her family. Small world! God bless you, your beautiful family, and the ministry!

I remember praying for you when we got news of the accident. The news was horrible, we couldn't believe it. I'm the one that took that photo of you that shows in the beginning, you as a baby, that center photo. We were in Oregon when we got the news so it was funny watching Sue Thomas years later and going, "I wonder if that's Joel Sonneberg?!?" And sure enough- so neat they let you tell your story at the end! I had forgotten that I had taken those photos until seeing it either in a newscast or somewhere online.
(I wonder if anyone notices in that picture that your mom was holding onto you in the back, you can see her fingers just behind you- funny! I didn't catch that taking the photos.)

Joel, I read your moms book while living in a hospitality room at St. Johns Mercy Medica Center. It was a week before Christmas. It was given to me by a member of the Phoenix Society. 3 days prior, our house burned down. My brother was burned over 70% of his body. I didn't know if he was going to live or die. I was 14 and he was 12. 9 months later, he was home but in a wheelchair, in jobst garments, ankle braces, and a face mask. Mom dropped us off at the mall. He and I were eating lunch in the food court when a little boy...around 6 or 7, began staring from a nearby table. His mom LOUDLY told him "ITS NOT POLITE TO STARE!!!".....Without missing a beat, my brother turned to her and said "Could you say that any louder? I don't think they heard you down at Famous & Barr." lol. December 13, 2017 will be 21 years a survivor. And he uses humor and positive attitude to teach kids about fire safety. We love you Joel!

It is amazing that the Bible is just as alive as the days in which it was written. When Joel's wife said that she kept getting verses of confirmation I knew exactly what she meant. The Bible speaks to everyone, no matter what situation they may be in. Having learned the Bible as a child and now with a child with special needs of my own, the Bible reads with more meaning fit exactly to my situation. Try reading, it fits yours too!

An inspiring testimony about how one man overcome tremendously great adversity and come out victorious with the help and grace of a GOOD, KIND and LOVING GOD.
However, I disagree that his severe accident is purposed by God. The accident obviously came from the devil (See John 10:10). Any Christian that thinks that the accident was purpose by GOD needs to have his head examined because it contradict scripture.
But whatever the Devil meant for bad, GOD turned it into good!!!
Bill Johnson, said, The goodness of GOD is good theology and should be the cornerstone of Christian Theology. Christians should stop blaming GOD for the bad things that the Devil is responsible for.
