All Indian parties are economically left wing. Improperly implemented socialism is the bane of our existence. Lots of costly patchwork schemes (such as LPG) that together cost a lot more than one big scheme (free food for all) would cost, because people hack them in various ways (e.g. LPG cars, corruption) and because you can't stop a scheme once you start it.
BJP is actually titled towards the left while congress is tilted far towards left. There is no right wing in India politically.
Would seem so but there are ALL of MH and GUJ politicians are right wingers, even the congress in MH is rightward leaning, (at least economically) NCP and SS are all for private folk doing business and getting a cut of the ensuing wealth just like the BJP

Ours is a struggling country and people need stability and social security before they would care about intellect and language. I'm not a social science student, but calling authoriterianism a Right wing attribute is imperfect. Authoritarianism-liberterianism fall on an axis orthogonal to Capitalism-Communism. Stalin was certainly an authoritarian, but not Right wing at all.
We have perpetually discounted the fact (may be due to the successful propagation from the left), that left wing authoritarianism can and does exist.
All dictators are left wing in the sense that they believe in big government and limited individual freedoms. Liberals call Modi authoritarian because ministers are not allowed to pull the sir of stunts like they did in previous Congress governments, and the spoilt Lutyens media don't enjoy the unbridled access to the corridors of power exposed by the Neera Radia tapes. Compared to the puppet PMO under UPA, an empowered PM certainly appears authoritarian.
Dictators are authoritarian. Left by definition is not "supposed to be" authoritarian. Case in point labour parties of west, leaders of NZ, France, Denmark, Taiwan etc. These are socially left in their ideology.
Eg. Macron was verbally attacked in the nastiest ,personal ways possible by some conservative Muslims in France but none of them were jailed for wat they said against him.

@Anahat Bhogi Today's capitalism is also different. It is neoliberal globalisation which is behind opening up of the erstwhile socialist economies not the nation state. It would mean huge profits for ultra rich class oligarchs of the West and a handful of cronies in India but great loss for the working class since you could always find someone cheaper to work for in other third world country. You can never have a true party of the economic right in India. The ethos of modern India which is influenced by Gandhian thought doesn't allow a party to be successful in liberalization and be popular in elections. There are three points -
1. Swatantra Party - The true libertarian party which was socially left and economically right. This couldn't survive 10 -15 years.
2. Narasimha Rao - The PM that liberalized India. He couldn’t win a 2nd term.

The present Modi, Shah BJP's ideology is neither left nor right. It's called Indian Ideology.
When a county has been ruled by left-leaning people for a long time influencing the consciousness of the general people, the inevitable outcomes are i) The established politico-economical system is left-oriented, making it impossible to dodge it entirely. ii) The mindset of the people has become such that it only gets entertained with 'free' staff or subsidies. Hence, it is not at all surprising that BJP exhibits some 'left' characteristics.

The issue facing India these days is not whether the BJP is right leaning or left leaning. The issue is it’s penchant for communalism, particularly cracking down on Christians, Dalits and Muslims that is getting huge adverse coverage internationally.
No one is cracking down on these people. They are living peacefully.
Dalits are Hindus and form a major base of votes for the bjp.

I agree with SG on his view completely. But difference is MS BJPs effective implementation of the schemes and hand out reducing the leakage via middle men. They also prioritize giving dignity to the poor, by creating an impression he cares for poor, by schemes like bank accounts, credit cards, toilets etc which middle class takes for granted.
I would rather say Indian politics should not be viewed by western binary terms like left and right wing. Modi is what we call as "Indic wing".
I would like to differ from this. Mr Gupta says that in economic terms, the BJP today is towards the Left. Let us not forget that corporate taxes are lower today. For the first time in Indian history, a government (which is under PM Modi) made a decisive shift towards privatisation. Also, Vajpayee was more moderate than Modi in terms of governance style. However, at the same time, Mr Gupta's argument on welfarism is true.
The answer to this dilemma, then, rests not in the placement of the BJP on the political spectrum but rather in the spectrum itself. Rightist economics supports capitalism, while leftist economics supports socialism. However, there is one more category of welfare capitalism, which combines the Leftist and the Rightist economics to an extent.
Thus, the BJP government is not leftist in economic terms but rather centrist, i.e., it is a government that follows welfare capitalism. That is why in wholesome terms, we call the BJP a right-wing party, since it is centrist in economics but rightist in every other sense.

in the aspect of religion, nationalism, spending on defense, BJP is right-inclined. In other aspects like agriculture, pro-poor welfare schemes, economic policies, levying tax from citizens it is centre-left inclined. BJP is very flexible and versatile. They believe in the horses for courses strategy. They have a set of leaders who hail from different backgrounds and a varied assortment of ideologies. Unlike the congress and other left parties, they are not a party with a fixed ideology. Usually, any party which is either left of centre or right of centre are very flexible who keep shifting from one side of political spectrum to another. Parties which are far of either side are too imbalanced and very rigid in their approach. Centre of any side is ideal for healthy functioning of any democracy.

For progress we must look to the future. To look for peace. it's a better solution than a nuclear war.. For there is no 3rd option sadly.. So I believe in a just peace.. India is a great country. What a fantastic video. For a long time I’ve been waiting for someone to say this. infact even modiji is a right wing guy because look at the reforms he took in gujrat everything is economically alt right. there are others like madhya pradesh cm who should be termed as hindu left.but modiji is doing this leftist things to attract poorest of the society.which is definitly costing money and growth but he is ok with it because he wants to stay in power as long as he can.
because the poor and middle class of urban voters have not voted for vajpayee so he took this path.
Yes in a country where more than 250 million live BPL
In a country where This number would be exponentially more if the poverty line was realistic(way higher than it is now)

Yes!! you spoke the truth FIRST TIME. I am US and Modi is not conservative from anywhere.
No new ground broken. This was clear in the first couple of years. The paradigm of left and right borrowed from the west has actually done a lot disservice here in India in terms of understanding our politics better. Surprising still, when we always had Gandhi as an example who had already broken this mould of left and right.
🙏🏼👍
Absolutely. There is no economic right in our country, thanks to all constraints we work with.
Vajpayee lost after 4.5 years due to anti disinvestment anti rich socialist mindsets and not promoting hindutva for its core voters. Either mistake if done by current bjp folks than in democracy , they are bound to loss due to time based anti incumbency after 10/15 years
Calling them economically left is a stretch too far. India is still very much third world in basic needs and i dont think water, electricity and gas connections and sanitation dont deserve a socialist label. They are not in the game of nationalisations and expanding subsidies like other left parties. Above all they are election focused. And they know Indians despite a culture of intelligence do not like adversity. We have an expectation government must end of our suffering even though the govt is not a European but a third world one. There are protests demanding jobs (lol) and when liberalising steps are taken to create growth vested interests such as farmers from two states will oppose. They just want govt job. Even if things like loan waiver mean we lose money to build road or hospital they do not care because most Indians think from community or individual interest than long-term national interest. What is the point of being reformist like C Naidu or Vajpayee only to lose an election because our village dominated electorate prioritises caste or schemes such as free laptops over development.
Wtf do you know the morning of third world country can you explain???
