I wasn’t able to make NYCC this year so I’ve been living vicariously through your videos these past few days. I appreciate these thorough tours of your experience. Most other NYCC videos are 10-15 minute cuts and just don’t bring the same “being there” experience as your full length videos do. I appreciate all of the hard work it takes to deliver these videos to us. It’s hard enough getting around comic con without the added stress of filming. Your dedication to your viewers is noticed and appreciated. I am so thrilled you won the original artwork. You most definitely deserve it Sean! Again, thank you for bringing me such joy and offering me the opportunity to get a slice of the action!
I love hunting at cons so much, so its super wonderful when I can bring you along through video and share that fun. I am happy you have been enjoying the videos, I want to make a lot more like this more often.
10:00 I would buy these ALL day, every day. I have that issue and the other Krigstein Piracy cover. And yeah, I actually prefer a lot of these titles--Piracy, Impact, Valor, Aces High--to some of the pre-Code stuff. Not only does it have the same stellar line-up of artists, but Impact #1 has Krigstein's "Master Race" which is considered one of the finest stories in the history of the medium. I got the full set of Impact from an Ebay lot a few years back for a little over a hundred bucks (in low grade), but I probably paid about $40 for that issue of Piracy in mid-grade.
Yeah I really like the post code EC stuff, I picked up up Impact 2-5 earlier this year (The Jack Davis Covers are spectacular) and now on the hunt for #1 because of the Master Race story. Because I am dyslexic I find reading EC comics so hard because each panel has a lengthy description of what is in the panel as if they described what the panel should look like and the artist would draw them then they would print the text describing it lol Just too much text, because of that I find The Master Race story to be super important to the medium of story telling in pictures and Its really high on my want list.
@@pop-comics That's a really interesting reason that I hadn't considered. It varies a bit. I love Al Feldstein but he wrote some incredibly text-heavy comics where it's almost funny how little space was left for these great artists to draw in. All the more odd since Feldstein was also a good artist and you'd think he would understand that dynamic. For Master Race, I think Krigstein had to beg to get 8-pages instead of the allotted six. It was hard to change page counts because EC had a standard 8-6--6-8 story layout or somesuch so once stories were assigned they were locked into that page count. Here's a short clip of Feldstein talking about "Master Race." ruclips.net/user/shortssoMG7yULvCA Anyway, it seems like it would be a pretty easy book to find at NYCC or just in general. But of course it's also been reprinted a million times over (deservedly so).
I think I also heard somewhere that the Master Race was originally going to be a pre code publication but because of having to make the changes it was delayed, then the code came out and it got kinda lost until the underground comics scene started to publish articles on its importance in the early to mid 1970s. 1st prints I think are $300-400 ish for a 4-5.0 copy so more hunting for an affordable one which has not crossed paths yet. One day.
@@pop-comics Wow, I think my copy has tape on the spine (which is fine by me) but I only paid a little over a hundred for the whole run. I know the original art for the entire story sold for an enormous sum, although that's not a surprise. And yeah, Krigstein got away with some depictions of corpses that probably wouldn't fly under the Code in a different context. But the Holocaust falls under educational rather than sensational (like the horror titles). Anyway, I find it hugely ironic that some of EC's finest work came after the Code, which was largely dismissed simply because of the taint of Wertham and the Kefauver hearings. But the horror stories were never EC's finest moments anyway, it was the war stories and to some degree the science fiction, neither of which usually had anything that would have triggered the Code in the first place.
Congrats on the Mark Brooks art piece. You are a very lucky dude! Also congrats on the 9.8 virgin Milo Manara Wonder Woman. Some fool on eBay is asking $300. You got an insane steal at $160. Jelly
Yeah the Milo work was such a great price and a stunning cover. I saw it day 2 and could not stop thinking about it so I knew I had to get it. And the Mark Brooks piece is stunning.
Wow! That Mark Brooks art you won! That was in a mystery box? You just glossed right over it in the video! Show it off again soon and tell us the story!
Yeah, the Boxes I bought day 1 also had a raffle entree to win the art, I did not think about it but they called near the end of the day Sunday that I had Won. It was super cool, I was not filming that day so taking a video was a after thought haha but I got Mark handing it to me so that was awesome. I plan on showing it in the actual haul video. Its quite amazing to see in person.
Yeah I think they either just started or were promoting that they were going to start soon at the con. Since I don't think I would ever read them and just collect for the covers, slabbed pulps make so much sense to me.
Congrats on the original art and also snagging the Dan parent? Katy Keene for $100!!. Always cool to travel via you camera. Maybe some day I can make it in!
NYCC is a ton of fun, definitely worth visiting one year for it. I think you guys have a few comic cons as well, if you have not been to one you should try to attend one of them.
You make my favorite content on youtube. You're so fun, knowledgeable, and nice, I really appreciate you. Here's a random question, I know you're into cute covers/comics, but I don't think I've ever seen you collects Lumberjanes. Some of those variant covers are the cutest. Is it just a matter of there being too many comics for you to collect everything, so there's always going to be blind spots? PS. I'm having pop walks withdrawl.
I am having Pop Walks withdrawal too. between Covid, then hurting my arm to catching a cold at NY Toy fair I have been out of commission. I need to work my stamina back up. I love Lumberjanes, I think I have most of them. Have to figure out what else I need to finish the set. But I think I grabbed most of the rare variants. Love cute comics like that a ton.
Thats badass!!!!! How much to enter. Do other booths offer contests??? I have SO MANY questions. Can you do an AMA or a Q&A of some sorts?!?? You have way too much 1st hand experience not to glean off of
Follow me on my Pop Walks channel, that is the best channel to ask me questions, its me walking around the neighborhood answering questions for 2 hours.
They were all mid grades 4-6s, prototype Magneto, Early Spider-Man cross over. If those were for sale for $100 I would probably borrow a few hundred thousand to buy as much as I could.

Sean, Thank you for all the great footage from your time at NYCC. I'm so happy you won that art! 👍🏻 😃
Thank you Tina! Its so much fun sharing my joy of the hunt at the con with you through video.
That was a sweet sketch! (Only $100?)
Congratulations! And thanks for the video ☺️

That is awesome, sounds like you got a sweet score when you got the lot.
Wow! That's insane
For sure!
Great video!!! Would love to meet David Nakayama

Did not know they had started slabbing pulps , i have a bunch I can send in .

Can't believe you won the raffle! hot dawg, grats! That is so sick
I know, I had forgotten about it when they called. I did not think I had a chance.
So awesome, congrats to a good guy
Thank you!

Thank you, I love NYCC a ton so definitely worth trying to visit one day.
Congrats on the win!
Michael Carbonaro is an absolute legend.. met him once here.
Thank you. And yeah he always makes my comic collecting adventure fun when I buy from him.
Great video man! I'm in Australia, but hope to get there in the next couple of years

The NY Hustle ... kool
Thanks!
Just rember during the Nineteen sixty four COMICON all who attended was given a peace of Original Artwork.
That is amazing, back then art work was disposable and not treating as treasure as much as today. Would have been awesome to be collecting back then.
I don't see how you keep up with all your comics I got 2 full boxes and I can't even remember what each issue was so I stopped buying them frequently
I am a crazy collector but my long term memory is very strong so I am pretty good at remember what I have and what I need.
That’s worth like $100
Don't think I will go to you for art appraisals anytime soon lol
No I meant those stack of comics for $500 I didn’t think were worth half that grades didn’t look high
They were all mid grades 4-6s, prototype Magneto, Early Spider-Man cross over. If those were for sale for $100 I would probably borrow a few hundred thousand to buy as much as I could.
Those weren’t any keys those were more filler old stuff
That enchantress in a 7.5 for $100? Was that dude giving books away. That book is like $300+ I think
Sheesh! The rich just get richer!
Everytime I win I do, and you say this lol
@@pop-comics Yup! I mean who else just happens to win a $6k piece of OA at a giant con!? 🤑
I will keep trying so you can say it again lol
Where the poop poop lol
Lol not sure where it was
