    what's the length of the losmandy plate (150mm)? - wonder if it needs a longer one to balance when camera etc in the image train

    • @larrycable984
      @larrycable984 Месяц назад

      it is 150mm, I think perhaps a 200 or 300mm vixen or losmandy plate might be better - also note you can replace the "handle" with the Askar 150mm multi-connector plate which makes mounting accessories easier

    Great video 👍👍 I’m having trouble focusing with FRA500 + ASI2600MC duo. Can you please show a photo of your setup without the reducer? Do you then use all the conical adapters and how much additional spacing?? According to the Sharp Star website, the distance from the telescope to the focal plane is 158mm which seems like quite a distance. Clear skies

    would AM3 handle 8 inch OTA, say an edge 8 that weighs 6.5 kgs. overall 9 kgs with accessories. would it guide well for that weight?

    With the reducer can you still get a full frame? I was thinking of getting the asi 2600mc with duo sensor

    Did you ever consider the FRA400 ? Or was that just too wide? I am torn between the two with reducer!!

    I’ve chosen the askar FRA 400 and I should receive it soon. Hope it will be good apparently it’s a very hight quality scope we will see… 😊

    Nice run through Antoine. Askar are making some fantastic telescopes and i’m loving my Askar 65PHQ. I am very tempted to add the focal reducer to the 65PHQ which natively has a very flat field but I keep hearing about the reducers causing elongation of stars out in the corners - how noticeable elongation of the stars at the corners once the tilt was taken care of?

      @astroswell 11 месяцев назад

      Same telescope here :) I'd rather f6.4 than elongated stars 😅

      @@astroswell True! That's why I went for the William Optics RedCat 71, which has a native focal length of 350mm, a ratio of F/5, and it is proven to produce excellent star shapes in the corners of full frame sensors. Yes, it's slower & has less aperture than the Askar, but the well-corrected, well-illuminated field for a full frame sensor more than offsets the other issues.
      Furthermore, I have seen a lot of evidence that the colour correction in the corners of Askar scopes is not great (especially with the reducer in place), so star shape is not the only important concern. I hate to say it, but it appears to me that Askar keeps the price down by not using the very best 'ED' glass, and, realistically, the optical design performs the best with an APC size sensor.

    Just the review I needed. My FRA500 just came in. I debated between that and Redcat 61 and 65phq. Your review 11 months ago made my decision much easier. I’m waiting for my duo to come in and then the real fun begins!

    Probably top of my list for a new scope. Good focal length and great focal ratio. Love it.

    Hello, first of all thank you for the tutorials. Can you tell me if the askar fra 500 is equipped with FPL-53 or FPL-51 glass? Merci

    Im looking to essentially the same setup. This helped me chose this scope over several others. Question i have is how is the AM3 holding up with this full photo setup and do you think it could handle the weight of a filter wheel?
    Total weight is a huge factor for me as I moved from a 8" SCT rig and its weight and bulk stopped me from setting it up/down and using it. Your rig looks close to the SCT scope & fork weight alone.

    +glactic hunter @glactic hunter where is the black matter? "JO-beaR" spelled phonetically! Did the dog eat that ancient beauty!? We cat astro-RUclips-video consumers are as polarized as the NCP will switch in the next 24K-odd-years! NO prizes for guessing, but i think you guys are gonna welcome a little gas-cloud-turned-into-a-piece-of-coalescing-matter!

    Hi Antoine,
    That is a GREAT-looking scope. I am in the market for a fast refractor and this one is now certainly high on the list. Thank you for your 1-year follow-up review.

    Merci Antoine! Good review, and I am pleased that you addressed the topic of optical correction with the reducer & a full frame sensor. Unfortunately, tests of telescopes & reducers with full-frame sensors are somewhat rare.👍Did you manage to solve the problem of the tilt of the sensor in the camera? If you corrected for that tilt, did the star shapes in the corners of the full frame sensor look good, or did other issues remain? Perhaps you could share the star quality grids (via PI) for some full frame sensor images in your blog on your website?🤔Last, could a review video about the AM3 be just around the corner?🤔
