    In chinese language we don't change the morphomene of a verb since a character is the smallest unbreakable unit to convey meaning grammatically. Instead we have a bunch of "auxiliary words" to help us identify the tense of an action and signal words helps too.
    I am a beginner English teacher and this series has been really helpful. Thank you so much : )

    This series is very instructive. I did syntax over ten years ago. Now going to do my MA in Linguistics. I needed to get back to the basics, and you are helping!!

    The "Den" in your Swedish example is not optional, just FYI. I love your content by the way, it really helps me in preparing for college. Thanks. 😘

    Some Comment about: The hungry mouse.
    In dutch we could say: De honger-ige mui(s)z-en (muis is Sg and muizen Pl) if we refer to a specific group of very hungry mice (e.g if we are looking at them and referring too as very hungry mice). If we refer this same in a general way we could leave out "de" and just say eg. We always find hungry mice in our base ground. - We vinden altijd hongerige muizen in onze kelder.
    Thanks for the helping btw!

    I'm here because I'm working on a constructed language for an alien race for a role-playing game, and need to untangle some concepts in my mind.

    Should we not speak of 'concrete vs abstract' as an ontological distinction rather that a grammatical distinction? Do they differ in their grammatical affordences? (I am asking about sentence grammar, not morphology.)

    But is "... sleep at night" still a predicate if it doesn't have any D.O. or I.O. ?

      @demidron. 2 года назад +1

      Yep. It's a verb phrase with a prepositional phrase as an adjunct.

    Does this apply just to english?

      The general idea will extend to all languages. Some have these properties, others don't. Most of the series will focus on English though, until close to the end.
