    I bought an aloe plant from the discount rack at Lowe's for a dollar a couple of years ago. It's now over 36 inches tall..I put it outside in the summer. It's in a large pot. I'm running out of places to stick it in the winter. I brought it in from the cold tonight. I was looking into cutting it back. Thanks for the video. Mine had a large portion of the stem exposed at one point. It kinda leaned over and about 15 pups grew from the stem. I also have two pups I transplanted over the summer. That are doing well. Located in the US on the East coast,in Maryland. Good luck with everything.

    Your spider plant is growing new spider plants!! That's what the new spikes are!! Good luck! I love when my spider plants give out new little ones. The original plant hangs with all the new babies and it looks phenomenal.

    Aloe vera grows like a weed for me. Right now my large pot, like yours, is completely packed with baby plants. When I dump the pot out there won't be very much dirt left in the pot. There will be very very few roots on any of the plants and I will just put them in new soil and they will grow. Aloe prefers sandy soil that is not especially fertile. I generally forget to water but when I do I water very thoroughly. I have a large pan under the pot so that I can water generously without worrying about the water running all over the place. Any excess water is quickly soaked up by all the plants. If I touch the leaves and they don't feel firm, that is a sign that the plant needs water.

    Thanks for this, I got an aloe in October last year, it was a pretty big start from a huge indoor aloe my husband's friend has, it literally covers a whole dinner table in his house, but this helped me maintain mine and keep it lush and healthy! Thank you, thank you! Oh mine has no pups is that a bad thing?

    There are so many natural ways to reduce pests!! :) Soap and water misting, cinnamon around the root of plants, I also use Qtips with alcohol and I clean the leaves! I know youtube has more tips! If you like corn, you can also grown corn!! I did!

    Hi there ;) I loved your video. I have really been into aloe vera for about 3 years now. I pull off my legs just like you did and my plant survived fine..I have a question for you...have you cut any of your leafs off about 3/4 the way down? I have and mine still grow back after being half cut off...its funny because I read one it's been cut it stops growing...but mine doesn't...and the yellow juice from the aloe vera is very very strong laxative..its actually poisonous if u have to much..but a tiny bit can help with constipation very well lol... I'm interested to see how your plant went after ripping the leafs off??

    • @ChristopherBrandsdal

      Yes you can, but make sure that the cut has dried before you put it in water or soil. both works.

      Christopher Brandsdal I think u might be right😉so what I did was took them out of the water n I'll let it sit out for about a wk... It should be dry by then thx again for ur help👍🏾😬

  • @kath3013
    @kath3013 7 лет назад +2

    The older leaves just dry off naturally. It's normal :) Just take them out and repot the aloe in a bigger pot. :) And the little ones should have their own roots by then so you can separate them at that size if you want :)

    • @ChristopherBrandsdal
      @ChristopherBrandsdal  7 лет назад +2

      This fall it will get a much bigger pot, and it will be part of my "desert display" in the growroom.

    • @kath3013
      @kath3013 7 лет назад +1

      yes, you can plant it lower to hide the stem as long as the cuts you made are already dry. Otherwise, it might rot. How do the leaves look? If they seem dry on the ends, it's underwatering. If it's turning brown or somewhat yellow and has spots, it might be fungus or rotting. Maybe the roots need more space.

    Update on Aloe Vera, please. I would think it would have gotten top-heavy and fell over, no? I almost think the only way to prune an aloe is to chop it down and start over with a pup that is of decent size. Otherwise, won't the aloe keep growing up and up and up if you keep pruning it like that?

    My aloe vera plant's conditions look like yours : leaves falling down at the sides , leaves curled inwards and leaves brownish in color. What is the cause? Too much water? Too little water? Or too much sun? Can anyone advice me so that I can save my aloe vera plant?

      If it is brown it can be due to too much sun. Like a purplish brown

    Hun you need to take the leaves closest to the bottom first. Need to take it out cut the base. Peel of the leaves each from the bottom first then repot

    • @aliciaglomski6496

    Hola Christopher! Thank you so much for your videos. I love your set up. Can't wait to see the new things to come. I was thinking, have you tried food grade hydrogen peroxide for your gnat eggs. Look up the ratios. They are different for using it on soil and for using it on foliage. They will kill them. Then set up some gnat traps for the ones flying around. Have you tried this? Am interested to know. Thank you! New sub.
