4 years ago on this very channel, they drag raced a Focus RS mk3 vs Civic Type R FK2. Result was 24.3s for the Focus and 25.0s for the CTR. That's interesting to see how fast the FK8 is here.
It's hard to launch the civic quickly without losing traction. That's where it gets beaten. The other 2 cars seem to have better launches. The mini has good launch for a fwd. The Toyota with awd wins. It hooks the tires nicely.

I don't know anymore. I think with the stock Sport Contact 6 for the Civic the GR will win in the corners. I have an FK8 but on Cup 2 like the limited edition. It's very significant improvement, the Cup 2 you can actually use the chassis properly.
@@tupperwarecapayam1071 Nurburgring isn't really a good-handling required track. It has more straight lines rather than turns. So ofc no doubt that the Civic would win, since it has much more horsepower. However, on tracks with lots of curves, such as the Tsukuba circuit, the Yaris can easily beat the Civic, since it's an AWD, compared to the Civic which is an FWD.
@@ilovechocolatebutihategrapes the majority of the tracks in the UK the GP3 is faster than both of them, I had the Yaris GR which was easier too drive on the uk roads but wasn't nowhere near as quick as my GP3.
I owned a typeR back in 2002 it was a lot of fun, this modern one looks huge in comparison. Currently driving Merc A35 but thinking of a change to the GR Yaris, it looks to be a fun hot hatch and there should be potential to safely tune for a few more horses.
I'd be wary to try to get too much additional out of it without going fully built internals. It's already the most powerful production 3 banger, I'm sure they pushed the stock internals to their near max to achieve it

True, in fact in Japan it comes out with 275 hp and there are preparers there and in Europe who are easily getting 300 hp out of it. The cars that come from stock already give in bank quantities higher than the 265 from the factory, reaching up to 280 hp. The engine, despite being three-cylinder, is designed to develop even more power.
bare in mind it's 4wd vs 2wd ona damp looking surface. Would lose easy to the mini on dry but unreal car in it's own right and the 3 cylinder and less power makes me like it better in some ways. Much like the brilliant 3 cylinder in the standard cooper adapted from the i8

Well the yaris easily has it on the street, on the 1/4 or 1/2 the other have it but how often are you cracking 170 in a street race. Good work toyota 👌
In the UK the Mini GP is about the same price as the GR with circuit pack. But the Mini is a more track focused car really, there are no rear seats etc. it's pretty stripped out.
That Toyota is damn fast off the line, but in the end he has leak of power against the other 2😅 I would pick the Mini for daily use and the Honda as a tracktool😊
It has no loss of power, it IS less powerful than the other two. And yet they do not take away so much difference in a straight line. Surely things would change in curves because the Yaris GR's cornering is much higher and the exit from them is also better due to the 4-wheel drive. I think that the Toyota did not want to make a dragster if not a car for all types of tracks. Anyway there are already preparations that exceed 330 hp. Did we try them? Mine will get to me in 2 months, with the Circuit Pack. I'll tell you.
Type R isn't very good from the dig, but that launch wasn't good. It can be tricky to do it successfully without applying to much power causing wheelspin.
180kmh before the mini catches the GR means the yaris is king on the streets where speeds don't reach that. Add that to its b road massacre of the mini on other videos with its supple brilliant traction and suspension balance, only one winner. If you are a motorway racer the mini is your car anywhere else though GR.
@deanowarrior Nonsense go watch the Carwow drag races with Mats Yaris , it gets beaten after about 20 mph in near every drag race vs the GP3 , they've raced them loads of times and the Yaris gets smoked easy .
It's for the handling and chassis, you can just send the car into corners and it STICKS. Also with mods the engine can make some big power, but they overheat like hell on the track... mine actually caught on fire. I loved the car but never would buy one again. I also own a JCW GP now which I like better.

@@Racstacko It's tough to say, I've had a 6'5 person sit in the passenger seat without having to put the seat all the way back. The bar does not really touch the seat even if you put the seat back. I would say if you cant find a GP3 close by to try sitting in a normal F56, it may be a tight fit but you technically should fit. Joe Achilles a reviewer from the UK fits just fine in the GP3 and I believe he is 6'4.

I would bet the quickest/most fun car in the widest variety of conditions is still the GR...especially in conditions that 95 percent or so of people purchasing these cars will drive them most often.
I have driven all 3 and I would actually place the GR last in fun factor because it isn't that playful from factory. Even in sport mode it is extremely hard to get the rear to come around. But it's still a fantastic car and I'm glad it exists.

@@TFritz82 I actually own the GR Yaris and I would say on a bumpy wet road very few cars would have the same composure and stability. It's a small car too and that gives it extra agility. I don't quite buy into the homologation thing because wrc cars today share very little with road cars these days unlike the 90s. Probably only the roof and door count.
@@sodazman I was skeptical of the homologation claim because last I was aware, current FIA regulation doesn't require WRC manufacturers to produce road going homologation units in order to race them?! In this case, the rally car came first and the GR Yaris seems a showcase of what could be done to the existing Yaris to authenticate it as a limited rally-bred icon! Very true of 90s cars...5000 minimum units to homologate them for Gr A participation, Evos, WRX, GT4, GTI-R, etc.
@@TFritz82 Yes the homologation process hasn't been a requirement since the 90s Group A cars. The current WRC cars are a very different breed from those years. I believe the Toyota boss wanted a sports car and this was a good reason to do one, even though much of it is marketing. For me, to be able to buy something today that captures some of that 90s spirit is a fantastic thing regardless.
It is a shame to see European car test dominated by drag racing, the GRY is the new kid on the block see what it can do on a slippery track against those 2 cars.

WOW, the Honda driver shifts like I did when my dad was teaching me to drive an Alfa Spyder when I was 15 back in the 80s! That car is a 5 second flat (or slightly under) 0-60 and he manages like 7.5 seconds or so.

Type R is still trash from a dig, I know because I had one and even with a perfect launch and shifting its still not a car for drag. I have a GP now and its superior.
@@tupperwarecapayam1071 Your comment is right. But GR Yaris is designed subject to the race use. That assumes 450 horsepower informally. Engine and transmission. Therefore there is little risk of a breakdown by 400 horsepower.
The stock Sport Contact 6 have excellent grip but with the Cup 2 there's a huge improvement. I'm running them on the Type R. But as was said they are not for wet driving.

Are you aware that the Type R beat a lot of Rearwheel and All wheel drive car records in the NURBURGRING circuit ? Im sure you know. That was a proper racing track. If youre talking about snow then yeah i agree...but the Type R actually handles the rain great though. I have the Lancer Evo X and a Type R, Ive experienced and compared them in these conditions. The Mini is quicker in the 1/4 mile and the Type R is a bit slower with a higher trap speed.
Only if you rev it and drop the clutch. If you drive off “Normally” from the lights then step on it the R & Mini will smoke it.

@@Racstacko It's tough to say, I've had a 6'5 person sit in the passenger seat without having to put the seat all the way back. The bar does not really touch the seat even if you put the seat back. I would say if you cant find a GP3 close by to try sitting in a normal F56, it may be a tight fit but you technically should fit. Joe Achilles a reviewer from the UK fits just fine in the GP3 and I believe he is 6'4.
Talking about the guy in the type R can't shift? Do yall know what wheel spin is because most of yall probably don't even know how to drive stick! He did just fine considering the lack of grip.
That's why you don't flaw it if the car/tyres can't handle the roads.
I would bet the quickest/most fun car in the widest variety of conditions is still the GR...especially in conditions that 95 percent or so of people purchasing these cars will drive them most often.
I have driven all 3 and I would actually place the GR last in fun factor because it isn't that playful from factory. Even in sport mode it is extremely hard to get the rear to come around. But it's still a fantastic car and I'm glad it exists.

I love that Toyota made such a car as well and would not hesitate to grab one if they came stateside. The homologation DNA and awd are strong selling points for me!
@@TFritz82 I actually own the GR Yaris and I would say on a bumpy wet road very few cars would have the same composure and stability. It's a small car too and that gives it extra agility. I don't quite buy into the homologation thing because wrc cars today share very little with road cars these days unlike the 90s. Probably only the roof and door count.
@@sodazman I was skeptical of the homologation claim because last I was aware, current FIA regulation doesn't require WRC manufacturers to produce road going homologation units in order to race them?! In this case, the rally car came first and the GR Yaris seems a showcase of what could be done to the existing Yaris to authenticate it as a limited rally-bred icon! Very true of 90s cars...5000 minimum units to homologate them for Gr A participation, Evos, WRX, GT4, GTI-R, etc.
@@TFritz82 Yes the homologation process hasn't been a requirement since the 90s Group A cars. The current WRC cars are a very different breed from those years. I believe the Toyota boss wanted a sports car and this was a good reason to do one, even though much of it is marketing. For me, to be able to buy something today that captures some of that 90s spirit is a fantastic thing regardless.
It is a shame to see European car test dominated by drag racing, the GRY is the new kid on the block see what it can do on a slippery track against those 2 cars.
Mini yet again wins drag race by absolutely miles best engine the faster it gets .Mine is 4wd .

GR yaris was made for rally and track . This was not its class... but still satisfying even in drag race . Its 1.6 it has reached the limit .
WOW, the Honda driver shifts like I did when my dad was teaching me to drive an Alfa Spyder when I was 15 back in the 80s! That car is a 5 second flat (or slightly under) 0-60 and he manages like 7.5 seconds or so.

That assumes 450 horsepower informally. Engine and transmission.
Therefore there is little risk of a breakdown by 400 horsepower.
GR down side no DSG or 300bhp in that traffic light 🚦 sprint it’s a big fail for me because that’s where my cars going to be spending most of its time

CTR limited wers Cup2s that, in this conditions, are not the ideal tyre (if not properly warmed)
The stock Sport Contact 6 have excellent grip but with the Cup 2 there's a huge improvement. I'm running them on the Type R. But as was said they are not for wet driving.

Need to do whole series of events ,roll racing, hot lap/track race, 0-100km ,100km-0, 1km drag race if possible , not just 1/4 mile seems that it's purposely done to make the type R look slower than the other 2 cars, knowing that a stock CTR fk8 isn't very good at launching of the line and 1/4 mile 🤔but would smoke them in roll racing and track racing 🥊
Not really, I own both the fk8 and the mini . Love the CTR, but it can't keep up with the mini. Both are stock.

Are you aware that the Type R beat a lot of Rearwheel and All wheel drive car records in the NURBURGRING circuit ? Im sure you know. That was a proper racing track. If youre talking about snow then yeah i agree...but the Type R actually handles the rain great though. I have the Lancer Evo X and a Type R, Ive experienced and compared them in these conditions.
