The last time Georgia played in Lexington they won 16-6. I think the gap between these teams has narrowed compared to the 2022 team. I think the game will be closer than people think. Also, I think Kentucky may surprise people when they go to Ole Miss and beat the Mississippi Kiffins. lol
I was at the game in Lexington the last time the bulldogs came to town. The game was low-scoring and close for one main reason… it was 26 degrees outside and windy. Both teams relied on running the ball, as expected. While 16-6 looks good on paper for “keeping it close” make no mistake, Georgia is wayyyyyy deeper at every position. They literally have 5star players backing up 5star players at every position. I can only hope that the Cats can sneak a W against the dawgs one day.
Just to be clear, John Schlarman was responsible for the Big Blue Wall. Eric Wolford did well here but he inherited a GREAT line from Schlarman and didn't develop depth. He is capable but must be better.
Wolford was also the reason for the fall of the Big Blue Wall because he left on a recruiting trip to somewhere in Alabama and then sent word back that he was leaving to coach at Alabama. That meant two sudden coach losses in just a few years (first the death of Schlarman and then Wolford's classless move), and it's taken years to recover.
Last year was very frustrating. Kentucky was literally 3 plays from a 10-win season last year, but they couldn't get out of their own way (against Tennessee, South Carolina, and Clemson specifically).
Missouri has a storied history of its just that it was back in the 60’s and then 2007, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2023. The potential has always been there. They just needed an administration and Board that would prioritize football. Unlike Arkansas which has the entire state behind them and they such.
You know I loved this one. I almost bought that SEC Mike was a BBN booster!! I see an 8-4 year and Mark Stoops will once AGAIN pass Bear Bryant as winningest coach. Stoops had to cough up 10 so back he goes behind Bryant who left UK in the 1950s for Pete's sake! But I ain't no stat man so I could be wrong about it ALL. Love the show. Cousin Shane may be a part of Big Blue CYA.🤣
Before Rich Brooks the Kentucky football program could be summed up with what I heard one fan say back then: "I don't care if we win as long as it is exciting". Therefore, the Hal Mumme / Tim Couch years with tons of yards and points and no significant wins and no wins against anybody good was the highlight of post-Bear Bryant UK football. But no matter what the culture of the program was, beating Tennessee was always the most important thing. The 1981 team went 3-8, but a win over Tennessee is what the season is remembered for. However, starting with Rich Brooks the Tennessee game has mattered less and less each year, and Kentucky football became about "Firsts". First win at Georgia in 30+ years. First win at Auburn since the 1960s, I believe. First win over a number-one ranked team in 40+ years. Plus many others. No longer was it about keeping people entertained until basketball season. It was about accomplishing things that had never been done before and changing the culture. The Mark Stoops era has continued to be a culture of "Firsts". First win over Florida in 30+ years--ending The Streak--is the elephant in the room. However, I say that 2024 presents an opportunity to graduate from being a program in the business of "Firsts" to being a consistently top-flight FBS program if they can take care of one more first: first win at Ole Miss since 1979. Beat Ole Miss, 10-3. Don't beat Ole Miss, a disappointing 8-5 or 7-6. That's my guess. But no matter what happens, strange as it to write these words, South Carolina is the important rivalry now, not Tennessee. A loss to South Carolina would sting more than anything else that could happen in 2024.

Stoops has had Kentucky with a top 2-3 defense in the SEC almost every season since 2018. He just has had issues with OC continuity. They went 8-5 in 2019 with a wide receiver at QB in Lynn Bowden, who ended up being one the best players in the entire country, and truly believe had he been their QB from day 1 they would have won 10 or more games that season. They have consistently been a tough physical football team, one of the strongest on the defensive side they just have not been consistent on the offensive side. Had Will levis waited a millisecond longer for barion Brown to get set they actually scored the game winning touchdown in Oxford last time they played, but it was ultimately called back for a Penalty due to a freshman wide receiver not getting set in time. And another is Tennessee, although Kentucky seems to always find a way to lose to the vols, their rosters are fairly close talent wise and i would not he surprised if they did beat Tennessee.
