How Dirt Jumps are made- Trail Fairies are real - Adventum

  • I found a video camera at the trails the other week.. I took it home and looked through the footage and found video proof that trail fairies actually exist. When I left the trails on Saturday they were a bit of a mess- running quite rough and looking tatty. When I returned on Sunday I found a load of new features that had been built overnight.
Seems like we had a visit from someone or something from another dimension. I couldn't identify them from the footage. Sorry the video is a little shorter than usual- this is all the footage they left me. There might be a bonus extra video coming out later this week to make up for it ;-)
I've been filming the building we do at the trails since 2012 and we have used lights to illuminate the trails several times. We only ever did this to ride but I loved the way the trails looked and it made me really want to film some digging at night. Originally my idea was to ask the guys if they would wear tutus to be trail fairies- the mystical people who many believe construct trails overnight. Ian was keen, but most others preferred the idea of wearing hoodies so we went with a 'Trail fairies from the darkside' theme. One of the crew, Lawrence Chichon, is a creative genius with access to some cool kit and he was able to bring down some lighting gear. I bought some smoke grenades and the concept was born! This was filmed in 2 nights in the middle of winter, the first night it rained and the second was sub zero! It made us work fast.
This video holds a particularly warm place in my heart - i really enjoyed making it for several reasons. Being able to shape the light to illuminate only the features of the trails I wanted to show was awesome. I was really stoked to film digging in a new way- something I hadn't seen before. Without doubt though, the best thing about this was seeing all my mates digging in the woods well into the night to support the idea. I remember filming and thinking to myself, 'I have the best friends in the world'. We actually had a great laugh making this and I hope the video made it worth their while- if you don't like it at least we got some digging done! :-)
None of this would have been possible without Ed Mitchell and Lawrence Chichon- you are both absolute legends. Also a massive thanks goes to the trails crew for getting involved and freezing your nuts off. I promise I had no idea how horrific the smoke from the grenades would be- I'm sorry!!
Hoping this lock-down will be over at some point soon and trail crews all over the world can be re-united to dig, shred and enjoy their hard work.
    Hope you enjoy the vid.

Thanks dude- yeah this video was a lot of fun to make but not many people seemed to watch it. We just thought it would be fun to do something different. Glad there are still people finding it and enjoying it!
