  • @sathviksriram7
    @sathviksriram7 2 года назад +304

    😭😭 that was so much deeper as I was expecting. But it also showed the very nature of how hasan and marquess being optimistic had their stories and worries extrapolated by the environment they are exposed to. Also giving insight into how marques managed to stay sane or the evidence presented by hasan of news etching to the internet just by few bad actors having incentive of no skin in the game, only adding to the worries was explored through all their lenses. Give me great pleasure in knowing that Hassan is using his platform to discuss ideas openly rather than just advocating. 😅

    This is easily one of my fave episodes of any podcast ever. If I had a hall of fame of videos/podcast episodes this will be added. Great conversations and I think Hasan and Marques have a different perspective on tech that makes the whole episodes so interesting to listen to. 2 hours flew by!

  • @cablekibble2942
    @cablekibble2942 2 года назад +186

    What a bonkers episode. Hasan is clearly such an intelligent person and expresses himself beautifully, but still highly values the views of differently opinionated people, even if they seem a little misled. I love how he took this conversation as an opportunity to express his ideas to Marques and his audience with an open mind, and explore Marques and Andrew's views and personality in ways that they haven't publicly. I'll be checking out his other "content" for sure.

    • @shaid153

      I like Hasan and admire the way he sees the world and tries to understand how things work. I slightly disagree with you in how he expresses himself, he tends to go the more verbose route with his economy of words. He's a comedian so I'll give him a pass since his art form is not about being conscie but rather more drawn out story telling to get his point across

    As an software engineer, I am actually right in the middle of Hasan and Marques' perspective. Even though I am very optimistic about technology, I am at the same time very sceptic about new and existing technology and it's influence on people and society. Very funny to be at both sides at the spectrum and see that in this long form interview. Long fan of both Hasan and Marques!

    Definitely the deepest a waveform episode has gone, but it was hella enjoyable. A lot of my tech worries do fall on the side where Hasan was troubled by the inherent NEED of being plugged in, but I also do find myself just conforming because it's easy. It’s lovely to hear Hasan talk about life in this way.
    I think the explanation is there is another level of feeling beyond smell, touch, taste or sight that none of us can explain or materialize.

    I wish more people talked about these things. The pace at which our lives are changing due to tech is astounding and it makes me wonder how the future generations are going to adapt to these things and not fundamentally change the perception of what it is being human.
    I absolutely loved this conversation and the contrast in perspective Hasan brings.
    I personally tend to be a bit more skeptical about our future with tech and the level to which it will be ingrained in our lives. We need more people thinking about the future and consequences of the way currently the tech is going.
    This episode is going to be timeless and I am going to be sharing this with people to spark a much needed conversation about these topics.

    With respect to the "content vs artistic" creator discussion, I look at the robot as an illustration of which side Marques falls on. He undertook what some believed to be an extravagant expenditure not only because it provides a capability which exceeds those of his fellow RUclipsrs, but because it affords him a measure of creativity that enables him artistically. As in this video, he frequently refers to the robot acquisition in terms of the competitive advantage it represents. However, the creative options it embodies are just as important.

    I WFH a couple days per week and I always love putting the WVFRM Podcast on in the background for some interesting tech talk while I work.
    This episode was a bit different though. About 15 minutes in I found myself glued to my second screen and hanging on every word.
    10/10 episode if you want an incredibly enlightening and entertaining conversation.
    1/10 episode if you want a background video you can only half pay attention to because this interview will SUCK YOU IN! You've been warned!
    All joking aside, phenomenal episode with some really interesting topics (and tangents!). Hassan is probably the most engaging guest I've seen on this show in a long time and comes off as a super intelligent and reasonable guy.
    Final Note: As always, I love the basketball talk. As a huge fan of both tech and basketball I'm sure you can relate to the fact that the venn diagram of NBA fans and Tech fans doesn't always overlap as much as we'd like. That Fantasy trade is pretty solid. KPJ and Oubre are both guys that will have high usage and will give you great numbers despite the fact that their teams aren't great (honestly probably because of it). Plumlee also is a walking rebound. Lebron on the other hand will obviously always stuff the stat sheet but will probably sit out 40% of his games for the rest of the season so it's just too much of a risk on any given week. His best hope is that AD continues to ball out and brings the Lakers back up to a competitive level where he feels like he has to come in and make a difference for the playoff push.

    This was a really incredible conversation to listen to. Marques mentioned during the run on his interviews that he really wanted to get back to interviewing non-tech personalities to bridge those gaps, and I think we really got an excellent example of that here with someone from a non-tech space like Hasan coming in. Very thoughtful, thorough, and honest responses & questions from everyone involved, truly great

    My biggest thing, as a millennial who's about 30ish, with the whole "omg ditch our phones and just live in the moment, stop recording everything" sentiment. Like sure... But also, Alzheimer's and mental decay exists and as i get older and think about mortality and look back at moments i DON'T have photo or video of and regret that. Memories are fallible and i don't think it's a bad thing to commemorate moments of people/places/things/events/ that in the grand scheme of things are all temporary. I just feel like it doesn't have to be all one way or the other. Someone taking a couple photos or a video of their favorite song at a concert doesn't mean they didn't experience the concert. People can multi-task, people can aim the phone without staring at the view finder the whole time. Like i think people make a way bigger deal out of people taking photos of things than it actually is. Just, kinda like Andrew said, all the negatives of tech have a positive flip side and it's just not as simple as just "baaahhhh all tech is bad and ruining society ahhhhh". Acknowledge the nuance.

      I love photography but I hate that pictures, which are an integral part of the human experience, have been monetized, data-mined, and basically weaponized *against* people.

      I go back and forth with how I feel about taking pictures when I think something cool is presenting itself. A nice sunset on a calm day with city lights reflecting off the surface of the ocean, puppy sleeping in a cute pose, random interesting things that evoke a "wow this is cool, lemme save it" moment.
      In my experience there are a lot of those moments and they just end up getting lost under the deluge of those other moments. Ideally a picture should be a call back to a memory anchor point that takes you back to that day/time when it was taken. Then from there you replay the events prior and afterwards.
      When all you had was a film camera every shot counted even if it sucked. With our modern phones, you lose the value of the moment cuz you're so focused on getting it right, you miss the event that's actually happening. You become detached from the moment and end up observing yourself from a 3rd person perspective.
      As a 40 yo dude who's watched all this come up, mental pictures where you're experiencing the moment event in real time is way better. Sure you may forget, but that's what friends and family are for to jog that memory.
      I advocate being present. Sorry for the long rant

      @@theglowcloud2215out of curiosity, why do you think photography is such a key aspect of the human experience? It's only been around for 200ish years. I wonder how much our capturing tools are starting to impact us from an individual to a societal perspective.
      It seems like it fosters more narcissistic behavior which doesn't bode well for collaboration

    Marques said Apple should make a printer. Apple used to! Wikipedia says that the last Apple LaserWriter was introduced in 1997 and discontinued in 1999.
    I remember being very impressed by the first LaserWriter in the mid eighties. I was in high school. I’m feeling old today!!

    Hasan is usually the smartest guy in the room. He made this podcast episode amazing. I think the reason Marques stays in his lane and asks the fun, tech related questions during interviews is because that's what he's qualified to do. I doubt he would be able to give rebuttals in the way Hasan would. Either way, really enjoyed this one. Hasan is an amazing guy.
