May be a backup but its still al pitrelli lolol. Criss is the reason I play guitar. I was just a young 3 year old when he died. My dad loved his playing as do I
Friggin can't get enough savatage, great memories. Parties all the time when booze and weed were primarily our vitamins, occasionally we'd drop a hit of window pain or pyramids. The eighties were KING!!
This came up on a randomized song list of mine and I was like damn, this would be pretty neat live. DAMN!!!! That was freaking incredible 😂 I wish I could’ve been there!
@@leadhead000I’m familiar with Gutter Ballet as well, I think HOTMK & Gutter Ballet are the fundamental “songs of awareness” for anybody who’s even heard of Savatage in the first place. Are you a fan of their deeper work? If so, where do I go from here in their discography?
Jon’s guitar tone is rather clean for such a METAL band as Savatage, kind of Pat Benatar “Hit me with your best shot” guitar tone. Not a BAD tone, just different than what I’d have expected. PLUS, I never knew they ever had to tour with a different lead singer than Jon before seeing this - that had to have been difficult.
@@leadhead000 These titles need to be corrected because this is not Savatage. While Jon and Criss have passed there is no excuse for others to get credit for their music.
@@isabelle-chancegermanshepherds well Jon is playing keyboard and rhythm guitar and also backing vocals on this. Plus Chris Caffrey on lead guitar. This is from the handful of rain tour.
Geez. The vocals are ludicrously on point. Great live performance.
You got that right
Yup! Seriously impressive - this guys got it nailed
This is beyond incredible, powerful vocals, piercing your soul
Yes it is
I don't know why I decided to search for "Hall of the Mountain King live"... but DAMN! Am I glad I did!!! Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!!!
Good job....lol
He nailed it!!!!
He sure did
Amazing performance...totally underrated band in every way (that's the 'backup singer and guitarist people!) RIP Criss
I agree

@amfk8079 Nah this is Alex Skolnick of Testament
Man!! Those were the days!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Yes they were
Not sure if anybody realizes but this is Alex Skolnick on lead guitar, As good as Jon is Alex is owning this song in this performance.
It sure is
Thanks
I was wondering who the guitar player is. Just amazing. Alex is a stone killer on the guitar.
This is a masterpiece song all the way around and Zak killed it with his vocals! He was so spot on!
Exactly
Zak is the one of the best vocal in the world.
That is true
Yeah dude his vocals are amazing but cmon... Jon shouldve been singing on this lol
I've never known better vocals than Jon Oliva
This song is belongs to Jon as a vocal in my mind.
Friggin can't get enough savatage, great memories. Parties all the time when booze and weed were primarily our vitamins, occasionally we'd drop a hit of window pain or pyramids. The eighties were KING!!
Yup
Grammy award great guy

I still have the VHS of this whole concert. Zak is one of my top influences and one of the greatest rock metal vocalists of all time!

One of the best
The best part of this is the singer...
I would agree
This is griggish. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah..!!!!
Ok
Is that Jon on guitar? This is a great performance
Yes on rhythm
@@leadhead000 - Why was he playing guitar and not singing? Voice issues I assume?
@@smilinacha it was just at a time when Jon and Zach were in the band at the same time just wanted to fill out the sound with a second guitar
Everything about this is great except Jon.
Holy shit!!! What a performance!!! Amazing...... name of the band members? I see Jon on guitar
It is a great performance. It's Alex Skolnick lead guitar, Johnny Lee Middleton on bass, Zachary Stevens on vocals and Jeff Plate on drums
@@leadhead000 Thank you my friend, Alex Skolnick is one of my favorite guitarist, that's amazing
Is this the son of Jon? Very good!!!!
It's Zachary Stevens. no it's not Jon's son. He took over when Jon wanted to take a break from full-time singing
Anyone know the year on this?
I've never been able to find that info
It is from Japan Live '94
I didn’t know Matt Dillon was in a metal band
😂
how did become the dude he is now - can't even stand up at his shows anymore
True

PLUS, I never knew they ever had to tour with a different lead singer than Jon before seeing this - that had to have been difficult.
Jon wanted to be more of a studio person and write songs. plus after his brother died he kind of wanted to just back off for a while.
Jon's voice was also pretty much destroyed by the end of the Streets tour, and he was in no position to carry on as the lead singer at the time.
9k0,
Yes
This is NOT Savatage or remotely close
It's still good
@@leadhead000 Check out Jon Oliva and what he contributed and then maybe you will understand

Jon Oliva es muchísimo mejor, Zach es bueno pero lo están sobrevalorando.
