6.7 POWERSTROKE VALVE TRAIN PROBLEM.... UPDATE

- After several valve train problems found on right hand side I look at the left hand side valve train and try to find a reason for cylinder 8 misfire. Another injector hold down bolt breaks and sends me into a rant.
I was doing the fuel system on a 2012 because the cp4 pump died. Accidentally dropped an injector copper washer into the valve cover, and go to take the cover off so I can fish it out of there. That's when I discovered the same thing you're showing. Valve train had worked its way to the side of the valve stems so it was really only pushing down on half a valve stem. I was so surprised, I pulled the other valve cover too, and sure enough it was the same story. Called the local dealership, and they claimed that's "normal". After thinking about it for a while, I'm pretty sure engineers overlooked how much side leverage is pushed on those individual push rod and arm assemblies. Think about a tried and true Cat engine, like a c15. Each rocker arm is beefy, straight, and all ride on a smooth rod to pivot. The 6.7 uses rocker arms that aren't all straight, and the pivot point is some janky metal block which forces them to have side load wear. I like the 6.7. Hopefully some good shops out there will come out with improved valve assemblies
To pull the injectors just flip the hold down then slide it back under the injector and hit the hold down and they will pop right out
Where are you from and do you want to work on my 2011 ? Pretty sure it’s a burnt exhaust valve on cylinder 8 , has a bad thumping at idle on exhaust side motor sounds beautiful. I don’t have time nor anyone around my area who will tackle it
Just curious How many miles?
@travisclark4816 I'm sorry I missed your comment 8 months ago I had walked away from RUclips for awhile. I'm near Cincinnati Ohio. I forget the exact mileage on this truck but I'm thinking it was around 180,000
Just watched this video series. Thinking I might have the same issue. Getting contribution balance codes on 2,4, & 8 - sometimes. Also getting a P160A code which was making me think PCM. I pulled the injectors had them bench tested, all passed. Re-installed same CB codes. Plus injector knock maybe? Seems like it's was just dumping fuel, check live flow rates on the injectors, 2,4,&8 way off from the others. Would a compression test confirm to me valve train or PCM? Thanks!
How much does a job like this cost? Ballpark.
Can you fix my 6.7 power stroke ? Low compression in cyclinder 1
Can't wait to see the outcome
Any suggestions on what to do when you have an injector that is stuck in there and doesn't wanna come out ?!
I tried using the same tool and the hold down bolt tends to want to bend slightly and the injector isn't budging I can spin it side to side but I can't seem to pull it out or pry it out either
Is there potential engine damage in that cylinder that could have mushroomed the injector tip?
Things been kicking my ass for the past 3 days lol, Any suggestions on how I could get that last injector on the passenger side out. Room is tight which sucks to get any good leverage on or is there some sort of tool that would be strong enough to pull it out that won't bend possibly
Did you try flipping the hold down upside down and tapping it with a hammer. If I couldn't get it out with the tool or using the hold down up side down trick then I think I would pull the head because there is something else going on.
Amen brother I’m a veteran! 👍
Hey bud what did you charge for the job total parts and all? Just curious
The total was just over $2k
@@cincydieselrepair6893you working for free my guy🤣🤦🏼♂️
Theres a specific tightening procedure. Need to set crank dowel at 3:40 then follow workshop manual
Do you know if the IQA was entered when the last person install the injector
No I don't. The truck was traded into a dealership then sold the auction where this dealer got it. So I had no history of.
@@cincydieselrepair6893 did you figure out number 8 contribution they maybe didn't have the IQA programed in
@@cincydieselrepair6893 hey any tips to talk to the customer about this. I had one that came in for a cp4 failure replaced as the customer wanted but I notified them that some of the injectors might have been affected and would need to be replaced. He declined so I replaced the cp4 and to our surprised once started it had injector codes. He approved but not easily he was blaming me for the injectors I got the injectors out but three of the compression copper washers stayed in. I went in with the pick to extract them and got two out but I had one that fell in on cylinder one. When I removed the valve/intake cover I discovered this exact same issue. Funny thing is it had no knocking. Now I’m stuck on how do I explain to this already pissed of customer who’s trying to find anything to blame me.
Same issue as the rocker off the valve.
Can you help fix my truck ?
Let us built a new engine and we will make all our money in aftermarket parts. I don’t get ford engineers . 6.06.46.7😢. And by the way you’re going to need a car lift to maintain your vehicle.
Hooah!!
