It's astonishing how Milan can play those high F5s and even higher! Most of us have to stop at high C4!!! Wow - so beautiful, artistic and magnificent! Bravo, Milan!

Very inspirational performance, Milan! Good to know that those kids that play with you not only love jazz, but have an incredible mentor and musician to look up to!

Cute girl on the end playing baritone sax. Almost too big for her.
      Nice concert, thanks.

The performance really has its moments but the one problem with throwing it all those whistle tones it makes that Hi-C at the end seem a lot less impressive

Exactly right! To be honest I would not have done the whistle tones that were not in the original recording. And that very very high C at the end lacked the power it should have had and it was ever so slightly off. That is the thing about the altissimo register...nailing those high notes without being slightly flat/sharp is one of the reasons the clarinet is a difficult mistress to tame. Something that Shaw managed in spades! Nonetheless, he was very good indeed.

I love his big tone and sound! He did not have the jazzy sound of Artie, yet he did the piece more than justice...if he had listened to the original recording a bit more he would have absolutely nailed. Part two was way better and closer to the original. His technique is flawless. It was not Artie but it was damn good!

I like it better than Artie Shaw's version....but then, I'm a Benny Goodman fan all the way!

Nice tone and style on the clarinet but a bit flat, especially in the throat tones. Should use a shorter barrel for jazz, given the volume and slacker embouchure necessary.

    • @coloraturaElise

The throat tones are flat because he, like 95% of clarinetists, tunes the horn by pulling out the barrel, which disproportionally flattens the throat register relative to the rest of the instrument.

Just dose not have that "classic" 30s/40s record sound

wonderful wonderful player. but it's a classic case of straight players attempting jazz. but I wish in my next life I could play half as well as him...even a tenth lol but sorry awful version of this piece

Longhairs shouldn't play this kind of music. Playing the right notes doesn't necessarily mean good jazz/ swing. And the band is not really together. Sorry!

      Too true!

    • @coloraturaElise

How can you be so ridiculously biased? That's like "long hairs" telling you that you shouldn't attempt the Mozart Clarinet Concerto!

    • @basilpeewit3350
      @basilpeewit3350 4 года назад

@@coloraturaElise I am not biased. I listen and draw my conclusions. And based on the aural evidence I hear, my judgement is correct. You cannot hear the difference?
I wouldn't know about the other way round, but that doesn't mean that "argument" is valid (it's more of a putdown than an argument).
