  • Many folks often visit our office due to “Sciatica.” However, more often than not, THEY DO NOT HAVE TRUE SCIATICA. Due to our sedentary lifestyles and improper/dysfunctional body mechanics, the rotator muscles of the hip including the gluteus medius/minimus develop Trigger Points. These symptoms can mimic “Sciatica.” Add this technique for relief.

    I've been rolling my IT bands and hip/lower back knots for years using all sorts of things: tennis balls, pvc pipes, golf ball, lacrosse balls etc. Turns out my technique and approach was all wrong. Should have been sitting and applying natural pressure for 3-5 minutes instead. Much better results after 15 minutes. Really appreciate the correction and clarity!

    Due Note - People should ALWAYS see their doctor in a MAJOR city hospital first in your area. Let that doctor do an X-Ray and MRI/CT Scan first,
    before taking any advice from a video on youtube. People can have all kinds of different problems that is NOT related to any trigger points,
    but rather a torn muscle, brisitis inflamation, labral tear, a pinched nerve root or disc herniation or anything else. Which may require a microendoscopic discectomy surgery.
    This is usually within the lumbar area of the spine which is between L1 to L5 but mostkly between L3 & L5 and even the sacrum, which is located just below the lumbar part of the spine. aka the butt bone.
    Just MAKE SURE that the surgeon NEVER drills or cuts any part of the Spinous Process or Lamina part of the spinal bone in any way shape or form that is the last thing you want,
    as in these days there is a less invasive surgery, which allows the patient to heal & recover faster, which is known as the microendoscopic discectomy surgery.
    You might need the nexus removed from one of your spinal disks and an Allograft to be installed, due to any Vertbral bone deterioration or degradation, Prolapse,
    extrusion which is putting pressure on your spinal nerve root or the main spinal nerve that is wrapped within the dura, in which requires immediate surgery
    by a professional Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon in a major city hospital. Always, Always, Always get checked out in a major city hospital and get an XRay and MRI/CT scan first.

This therapy helps to “Loosen” tight and restricted tissues, “Calm” trigger points, and promote circulation to aid in healing. Icing may disrupt this process. Thank you for the video...question, aside from constant stretching and relaxing of the muscle...are there any ways to strengthen trigger points (in this case the gluteus medius) once the muscle has been weakened to get it back to it's original state, or at least close for those of us that keep having crippling pain from it? In my case, it's a chronic condition from intense exercise that happens once or twice a year that paralyzes me for a couple days. Would really like to know your thoughts on strengthening particularly the gluteus medius to keep it more resistant from injury. Thanks!

    Triggerpoints are a result not a cause. Although treating triggerpoints can have a massive positive result, for many people that result is only temporarily. It’s only symptom treatment, like taking an aspirin, the headache can come back again if you don’t address the root cause of why you have triggerpoints.
    Most people with chronic pain have an overstimulated nervoussystem caused by way too much stress (various stress factors but emotional stress the biggest). As the nervous system controls the muscles, how can an overstimulated nervous system ever bring relaxation to muscles if the nervous system itself is never relaxed? It can’t! It’s important to lower the stress on the nervous system and the best way to do that is to start working on emotional healing and negative thoughtpatterns. A relaxed nervous system will relax the entire body including your painful muscles.

I bought one and used it today for the 1st time and found about 60-70% relief. It may be temporary, or I may be able to build on that healing. It looks like you are putting the ball in your back or upper glute - but that's now where it hurts for me - it's like I said lower right side glute - any suggestions?

Do I need a physiotherapist for expertise with therapy for both? I have suffered for three years with these conditions and have had only nerve blocks and steroid injections. I say NO MORE!!! I have osteopenia and don't need my bones to suffer more. I have never had the right diagnosis as all doctors have said it is sciatica. Now I know it is NOT!!! I had a Pelvic MRI after three years and now know what I have. The other MRI's were Lumbar Spine and it was being blamed on the sciatic or degenerative disks L5 and SI . So all injections went into the SI joint. Pitiful doctors . You can learn more on the internet. But if you think you are not getting right diagnosis insist on an MRI of the Pelvic.

    I sprained my left third toe about eight weeks ago and I had to walk at a surgical shoe with a limp for about 3 1/2 weeks. Maybe longer. My toe is completely healed but I began to notice pain in my gluteus minimus, and other hip flexors. Now I’m having ankle and foot pain! Could this foot and arch and ankle pain be from waking on an “uneven surface”? Or in my case, limping around for a month in a surgical shoe?

    Go to an Osteopath...they use gentle manipulation with resistance. I got tremendous relief on first visit and then did clamshell exercises. I also use squishy air filled vinyl plastic balls called The Miracle Ball Method....amazing relief.... at very low cost on Amazon. Psoas Strength and Flexibility book highly recommended.

      Hello and Thanks for Watching!😄Trigger Points are weird beasts. Depending on your activities, history of trauma, or mechanical joint dysfunction, trigger point therapy could be an ongoing part of self care. The idea is to continue this treatment as tolerated until symptoms dissipate. When symptoms dissipate, check these areas periodically and resume treatment if sensitivity and referred pain is present. In other words check often and treat to prevent worsening. If you would like further info on trigger points, Below is our Amazon Affiliate Link to The Trigger Point Manual by Janet Travell, MD and David Simons, MD.

    Hey there. I was wondering if you had an advice on how to sleep with this type of muscle pain. I stretch it and work the muscle but it tightens at night while I’m sleeping to where I can only get a few hours. I have not tried the trigger points yet so maybe that will be the key 🤞

      Hello and Thanks for Watching!😄Sorry to hear about your condition. Trying to sleep while these trigger points are active is very uncomfortable. Perform what’s instructed in the video religiously to calm these trigger points and your sleepless nights will soon be a thing of the past. Be patient and make sure you are performing other supportive care for your hip as well. Thanks again for watching and your inquiry. Keep us posted on your progress.

      Trigger point therapy is recommended to be performed 2-3 times a week, not daily. It’s important to allow for healing time to the tissue in between days.

    • @MoveWellLiveWell
      @MoveWellLiveWell  5 лет назад

      Hello and Thanks for Watching!😄I would tell them exactly what happened to you and the symptoms you are experiencing. If they are a very reputable healthcare practitioner, they will diagnose you properly and advise you and give you the proper course of care. There are many conditions regarding the hip that can produce these symptoms including true sciatica. If you perform this technique and your symptoms improve, then the diagnosis is what’s described in the video. Otherwise, it may be something else. I hope this answers your question. Thanks again for watching and your inquiry. Keep us posted on your progress.

    Do this maybe once a week or so...it works...there is some slight pain but it also feels good.....I found it works better or in conjunction with a roller....if you have a lot of pain in those areas a roller just doesn’t get it and the ball works better. But I use both or one of them daily after I stretch. The roller will smooth the tendon or muscle.

    This is exactly what happened to me when I got misdiagnosed with the sciatica. I had a lot of numbness as well, so went through so many specialists and doctors, with very little luck. I am pretty sure this is what I have and when the muscle gets really aggravated, it presses on the nerve and send the tingling and numbness down. The ball helps, I just tried it.But in another video they said to do 8-10 times for 5 sec each pressing and releasing, while you are continuously holding 3-5min per spot. Which one is more efficient? How often should I do it?

  • @AmandaLovesOldFords
    @AmandaLovesOldFords 5 лет назад

    I'm assuming that if you have numbness and burning sensations, along with the pain, that is true sciatica?

    • @MoveWellLiveWell
      @MoveWellLiveWell  5 лет назад +1

      Hello and Thanks for Watching!😄Sciatica is caused by irritation of the nerve roots of the lumbar and lumbosacral spine. This irritation to the sciatic nerve is often caused by spinal stenosis, degenerating discs, spondylolisthesis, muscle spasm, and/or pregnancy. Thus, “True” Sciatica would have to involve the sciatic nerve causing RADICULAR symptoms. However, REFERRED symptoms typically arise from other structures causing symptoms elsewhere such as trigger points causing symptoms elsewhere. Trigger points in the glute medius often REFER symptoms down the back of the leg similar to Sciatica as noted in the video. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for Watching and your inquiry.

    Does feeling pain in the butt when walking or turning while walking seems like a trigger point ? I’ve always thought it was sciatica but after doing an MRI the specialist said it wasn’t sciatica

    • @AmandaLovesOldFords
      @AmandaLovesOldFords 5 лет назад +1

      Sciatica is excruciating, shooting pain that can run down your leg. It usually only effects one leg, not both. I am currently dealing with it. Along with the pain, I have numbness and burning.

      pain in the butt that spreads to the side of the leg and up to the hip is likely gluteal (your butt muscles). It connects to your hips, your femur, and the side of the leg via fascia.

  • @bunny_0288

    I'd say 90% of my butt/hips are affected by trigger points.... I'm guessing that isn't normal lol They are always there, but they get aggravated from time to time and become "active." Like right now... hence why I'm watching this.
