I just bought the same rifle I found your channel and subscribed I did the trigger job and I’m getting constant .35 inch groups with norma 150 grain whitetail ammo out of my lead sled. Great video! Looking forward to more videos on your rifle and thanks for the help with that shitty trigger lol 😂

Norma shoots damn good in many calibers, across the board. Good line of factory ammo for the cash.

I hope you checked the torque on the rail mounting screws before mounting a scope. I have the .243 model and currently have close to sixty rounds through it. I started handloading for mine with 58 grain V Max, 87 grain Berger and 95 Berbers as well. I shot some 95 SST's also. The 58 grain shot fair under an inch for a five shot group at 100 yards but were not clocking or in a circular group. When I shot the 87 grain Berger handloads they scattered also but managed to stay under an inch and a half. Granted this rifle has a one in ten twist barrel and Berger recommends a nine twist but I have shot these before in another slow twist rifle with success. When I went to the 95 grain Bergers they went all over the place, like two together and three four to six inches low and left and right. I blamed this on low velocities so I loaded a ladder test starting at 2700 fps to 2950 fps book max is right about there. They shot even worse. I started looking at the scope and mounts. I have a Vortex Strike Eagle in a LaRue mount on it attached to the factory rail. The scope has already been on a 6.5 Creedmoor with no problems. I finally grabbed the scope and tried to move it and pulled the rail loose. I took the scope off the LaRue mount is quick detach and tried turning one of the rails screws it made about a quarter turn in then got real easy. I tried backing it out and it was hard to turn I knew exactly what was wrong. Three screws were totally stripped, the front one was never tightened and wasn't damaged. Wasted about twenty rounds and an hour or so loading and shooting. I pulled the rail off and cleaned the threads on the receiver they don't seem to be damaged but the screws are done. I found a 8-40 screw and it went right into the receiver currently it is held on with three screws until I get some more. I contacted Savage about replacing them I haven't heard back. Something to check if your groups go south or do weird things. I believe these will be pretty good rifles maybe ammo picky but they all are.

That was a problem we had with a Winchester model 70 a couple years ago. Groups were consistently stringing. Wound up being a stripped mount screw on the rear base.
I didn't check the torque on the rail before mounting the optics but I did do a good old fashioned grab and wiggle, and it seems rock solid.
I'll share your experience in an upcoming segment.
      Thanks for sharing 👍

I thought I saw something about stripped screws in another 334 video. Anyway I still have one factory screw with almost all the threads they might be soft screws so they twist off instead of messing up the receiver. I will take a closer look at that screw might give it the file test and see if it's soft. Luckily I had an old Weaver mount that still had the 8-40 screws with it and they had the same angled shoulder as the Turqua screws did and the same length. Only thing is they take a flat head screwdriver and the head diameter was a little larger. Fixed that with a drill and a fine grinding wheel. I loaded some more rounds I haven't been able to shoot it some more. Supposed to get another storm this weekend here in South Texas maybe tomorrow I will set up and shoot. That storm system that came your way missed us I know some people on Lake Livingston reported some tornado activity we didn't get a drop of rain south of San Antonio. @@JayLewisFarmStyle

The weak link on an awful lot of optic mounts are soft Chinesium screws that strip and gall up. Hopefully the issues in the 334 line are limited. I've had to whittle down a handful of screws in my day. Sometimes you have to make them fit. Fortunately you have the skill set to do that. Weather was nice here today. If it'll hold out another day or two I can get across the road and cut up some firewood without getting my truck stuck in the mud.

It's a great looking rifle. Love that stock. The price isnt bad and if you can do the trigger job yourself (I'm sure I can) then it should make for an accurate good looking hunting rifle

Definitely need an after market trigger replacement for this rifle. To keep the safety use I only could take down to 4.5lbs.
Mine had a 6lbs factory pull weight. A 3lbs safe trigger with crisp pull is my standard on what I like in a hunting rifle.

    • @JayLewisFarmStyle
      @JayLewisFarmStyle  6 месяцев назад

I read both of your comments but I will reply to both of them here.
I imagine in the near future somebody will come out with a compatible after market trigger for this rifle. One of the disadvantages to having something that is new to the market is aftermarket support is not yet available.
A 3 pound trigger for hunting is probably pretty good in my book as well. I probably have a few of them that are even lighter than that, but I feel as though 3# is an acceptable standard.
I realize it sounds cliche but nevertheless it is relevant that these companies let their lawyers dictate things like trigger pull weight.
The 4 and a half pounds that you were able to get yours down to is still way too heavy for what I like to squeeze when trying to make contact downrange.
I will post updates in this format as soon as I hear of a suitable aftermarket remedy to this heavy trigger problem on this otherwise fine rifle.

Sorry for the delayed response. Here's a Rumble only video we did on the rifle where I had it all apart:
      rumble.com/v49ysq6-making-the-stevens-334-better-with-a-free-diy-trigger-job.html
We also had the rifle out of the stock for a DuraBlue finish recently: ruclips.net/video/vVGE0wTj00E/видео.htmlsi=rd64ZkpCpP-cnDre
If memory serves me I made mention of those little inserts in one of those videos, but I've slept since then.
Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching 👍

I’d love to buy one, but I can’t find them for sale anywhere in a store. I don’t mind buying online, but only after I have seen the gun in person and held it and inspected it. Any ideas where to find one?

Academy stores in Texas carry them. I haven't seen them anywhere else in store yet. I'm sure that will change as they gain popularity.

As a general rule, from a personal ethics standpoint; I hunt within reasonable distances and have passed on a couple of nice animals because they were too far away.
The longest shot I ever took on an animal was 340 yards on a nice white tail buck. I wasn't certain on the distance but guessed it was 250-300 yards out so I held a little high over his back (about 6-8") figuring it would either over shoot or be a lethal hit.
The animal dropped so quickly I thought I had spine shot it, but figured out soon enough that I'd hit the heart and both lungs.
We measured of the shot after the fact and confirmed the distance at 340 yards. Ironically if I'd have known how far away it was I probably wouldn't have taken the shot.
      Thanks for watching 👍

I picked up the Steven's in the 6.5. I was leaning towards the 308, but the 1/11 twist made me back off. Tell you what, it's not only a shooter, but it's beautiful rifle.

While the twist is a bit odd, I've had exceptionally good accuracy with both 150gr and 165gr bullets specifically 150gr Federal Power Shok, 150gr Speer Gold Dot, and165gr Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw.
This recent video is a good illustration of accuracy for this rifle: ruclips.net/video/ELkVFWhUjsg/видео.html

I'm looking at buying this rifle locally.....and want to try the Norma and the same ammo you had your good groups with. I couldnt ever see the boxes of ammo in the video well enough to be able to ID the correct Federal ammo.... some of their boxes look similar from a distances. Could you tell me the Federal # on the ammo so I can get the correct load? thanks

    • @JayLewisFarmStyle
      @JayLewisFarmStyle  8 месяцев назад +1

Okay Darby Mathis, here is the information you asked for.
The best groups were achieved with Federal Premium Vital Shok 165gr
Trophy Bonded Bear Claw (Federal ITEM #P308TT2) These appear to be discontinued but still available.
We also achieved really good groups with Federal Power Shok 150gr (Federal ITEM # 308A)
and Federal Fusion 150gr (Federal ITEM #F308FS1)
The Norma ammo was their 150gr WhiteTail.
Hope that helps, thanks for watching 👍

Not yet, at least that I'm aware of. The rifles are brand new to the market. I imagine someone will have an aftermarket trigger out before you know it.

For Savage / Stevens to say these rifles have a crisp trigger pull is nothing more than false advertising and a total lie . The one I bought has a 8lb. 8.5 oz. pull. This sucks big time.
