Hi,.. You are actually the 1st doctor to explain these differences in an easy to understand way.
I have "complex" apenas .. and I also have COPD .
    My central apnea was 9.3
My severe sleep apnea was 59..
I also stop breathing while I'm awake. My Birthday pap machine was recalled.

      Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. Did you receive your replacement from Philips?

Hi,.. the V.A gave me a C pap instead of another Bi pap after the recall.
Changed the full mask to a nose cover.
They did another sleep study and downgraded my previous numbers.
      Why ?
I nearly died from legionnaires disease in 2016.. Kidneys shut down , had a stroke , lower lobe pneumonia was their only written findings upon my release from the hospital.
The CDC called me when I got home to find out how I possibly became infected with legionnaires.. I never mentioned that it could have come from my Bi pap machine ??
Instead the focus was on my air conditioner.
There were only 2 reported cases of legionnaires disease in Detroit, Michigan at that time.
One man who worked at the Chrysler plant in my neighborhood made the news and my near death experience was never revealed publicly.
      Thanks for responding.

@@leroygrayjr.2957 Wow, I am so sorry that happened to you but I'm glad you are still with us. I agree that they should have checked the BiPAP machine as a cause for the illness.

Sleeping on your back is the worst position for OSA. That seems to never be emphasized.

Lily you're an excellent communicator and teacher, I enjoy your videos... I have been on the ResMed 11 for one month now.. using the Phillips nasal cushion mask, love it but having a dry mouth sometimes, may have to go to a full face... Thank you

Very good explanation of central and complex apnea. Be aware, however, that if central apneas exceed 25% of total apneas you won't qualify for Inspire.

This video was amazing! I randomly saw this on my recommended and had to watch it haha. I have a quick question though I always have perfect sleep and never experience any symptoms of sleep apnea but now when I’m remembering, about 1-2 years ago I remember randomly when I was trying to sleep I got a sudden feeling of sleep apnea it happened like 3 times and then never came back, but now when I’m thinking about it, it kind of scares me. The feeling was like this I was trying to sleep and then all of a sudden it felt like my heart started to barley beat and my breath would slow down a lot. But it literally only have like twice in my life . So idk if it’s normal to happen once in a while or not not, because I’ve never gotten it ever since NEVER. My sleeping feels amazing every night.

      Hello,
It could be any number of things, I would talk it over with your doctor to see if they can narrow down why that happened to you.

When I get my CPAP on wednesday will it track my data so that we can diagnose the type of Apnea I am having? I am worried that my doctor is just assuming it OSA. I don't snore. I never really have. I want to make sure I am treating my Apnea properly. I don't know if the at home test collects enough data types to diagnose the type of Apnea. It just shows that I had Apneas (I think).

      Hi,
Thanks for reaching out! Yes, so what type of machine did you order or do you have? Snoring is not always neccessary for OSA, so do not go based off that. Let me know.

I am scheduled to pick out my stuff on Wednesday. I don't know what I am getting or what to ask for. I'm 45 years old and just now got diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. She didn't tell me what kind so I assume she is assuming its OSA until we see how the CPAP works for me. @@Sleeplayground

Central Sleep Apnea sounds, well, spooky. I have obstructive SA and I'm on my 3rd or 4th day with my machine. I had them adjust the air flow but the air coming from the machine was too warm so I adjusted that right on my machine. I can now tolerate having the mask on but last night I moved the mask 4 times causing it to blow air and this woke up my wife who woke me up..I'm going to adjust the straps...little by little I think I'll get it...Another great video, you're a natural teacher full of great information..
PS: I was diagnosed with SA only after I gained weight. I had foot surgery and have been inactive but I am finding that more and more people I know have SA. I would think it's due to Americans getting chubbier these days...

Thank you for the kind words! Yes a lot of Obstructive sleep apnea is related to weight. They go hand and hand if your not sleeping you gain weight uncontrollably at times. So using the machine is vital to help with losing it as well. Keep trying to find the right fit. Your doing a great job!!

@@Sleeplayground Thanks for the encouragement, Lily. My obstacle is keeping the mask on. During sleep or awake I seem to panic and remove the mask..until that point I do fine..wierd.

You might want to do a little more research before posting a medical type video. It doesn't help when you forget what things are called and you think that it's this or that. If you can't speak with authority, you put people at risk.
