Hey everyone! I was gonna do the usual “hey, what do you think?” comment, but y’all are coming through with awesome comments already! Love the discussion on these two amazing TVs. And also digging your choices for movies/scenes to show off TV performance. Should I consider doing a video on best movies/scenes to test/show-off your TV? That might be a nightmare to skirt copyright flags, but I’d at least consider it if demand were high enough.

I think what ultimately will be the deciding factor, is the price for 90% of people. Sony definitely has better image processing and overall quality, but you end up paying a lot for it. I'd get the A90J which is last year's model. Even the A80J is an amazing TV. That said, LG's C1 series is cheaper and won't be a big step down in terms of picture quality.

Great - Great - Great review.... I think you touched on most points for each. I happened to have selected the LG G2 over the Sony A95K....but for different reasons. First for me, the size was a big reason I selected the LG G2. I needed & wanted a 83" inch television. I had a Samsung 78" - and was not about to go with the Sony who only produces a 55" or 65" QD-Oled models. I realize this the maximum panel sizes at this time - that next year maybe different...but I needed to get a model this year because my Samsung panel was going bad on me after less than 5 years. The other reasons I went with the G2 was the 5 year warranty on the panels and the wall mount. I have only had the G2 a few month....but really like the picture quality and options the tv provided. Thanks again for your GREAT review...look forward more in the future.

I look forward to investing in the pure color of the new QD-OLED panels. However, I might actually wait until 2023 QD-OLED models are introduced before making a decision. I'd like to see if the technology is even better implemented in another year, as well as what sort of discount might be offered on the 2022 A95K. (The current price on the Sony is pretty steep I admit...) At this point we're not that far from Black Friday sales, so it will be interesting to find out how prices on the LG G2 and the Sony A95K will compare by then. The LG G2, the Sony A95K, and the Samsung S95B all seem to be great TVs, and it may be a while before I get beyond "analysis paralysis" when choosing among these 3 models.

I ended up getting the G2 77 simply because of the size. It was still cheaper than a 65 inch A95K. Even Vincent says bigger is better. This is absolutely no knock on the A95K of course but getting 98% of the performance for a $1000 dollars is enough justification to go with LG like you said. In most areas of the world G2 77 inch is more expensive than A95K 65 inch, which is overpriced just like S95B because stock is low on both and demand is high. In a few months they will drop 20% or more, as always. New TVs are always overpriced as hell. You could have bought G1 77 inch for almost half the price of G2 and still gotten 98% of the image quality too tho... G1 also had OLED Evo panel and I have seen both side by side in 65 inch, pretty much zero difference. WOLED can't really be improved more at this point. LG should lower prices ASAP or they will get in trouble when QD-OLED comes in 75+ inches next year. I have 2x WOLED in house, 55C9 + 65G1 and I want a QD-OLED next for sure, when I can get it in 75-77 inch. LG display did not really do much to WOLED since 2019 models TBH... My C9 looks almost identical to my G1 and I have seen C1 + C2 + G2 too.. Time for a price drop for WOLED across the board IMO..

I've been considering between these two TVs, and here's a question you didn't address - for the exact same money, you can get a 77" G2 or a 65" A95K - for watching movies (many/mostly HDR) in a dark room, which would you prefer? Typical 8 foot-ish viewing distance from couch to wall.

Why is it you never mention that all those buttons you constantly complain about on the LG Remote are actually hot keys? Making the remote very customizable and flexible, unlike other TV remotes and you don't even need to use those buttons, you can simply use the Click Wheel,, or the 4 buttonsat the bottom of the remote. All the complaints reviewers make about the LG Remote is just stupid. It's one of the most flexible TV remotes you can get with numerous ways to use it. My fear is the LG is going to eventually listen to people like you and eventually give us an awful redesign next year.

I think next year or whenever they produce more sizes WRGB will be left in the dust. LG sells that tech and this G2 if you need a TV right now is the finest rendition but may be it's ultimate effort. Samsung sells the QD-OLED panels which Sony and Alienware chose over WRGB. QD-OLED is the way to go in the coming years but for those who want something other than 55 or 65in waiting one more year or so to live with next gen TV tech may be the smarter move plus it will force the current market to reconsider their pricing if we collectively wait. $1400 extra is a lot. LG's crown on OLED is hanging on for the moment but has already lost in color luminance. What a great time to be a tech enthusiast!

I agree, $1400 is too much of a premium, I would love to hear your 2 cents on 'the sweet spot' literally, what premium do you think would make it basically even in choosing either TV? I'm going to pick a random number, $600 more for the Sony I'd say it'd make sense to consider it, anything more than that and yeah, the G2, especially with the C2 as well existing, its too hard of a sell. Personally I'm on the hunt for a C1 or G1 if I can find a good sale, and am considering a 77" coming from a 65" TCL LED from ~2013 so, that I think I'd be happier with than an equally priced 65" Sony (or slightly less expensive C2 or G2).

Love the more pragmatic approach to these later reviews from Caleb. We have Vincent for the really detail within detail stuff, so I really appreciate seeing these comparisons from this viewpoint where watching in a bright room is not automatically dismissed as "doing it wrong" ;)
Unfortunately I think I possibly AM that person who will be constantly looking for raised pitch blacks in an ambient light filled room. (You can't un-see that sort of thing). But I'll certainly be willing to give it a go based on Caleb's opinion here. (Won't ever be able to ignore the leaning stand though. Would wedging something under the back edge make it unstable?)
One thing that just came to mind. Does having the bottom edge of the Sony panel RIGHT against the unit it is standing on not cause a slight distracting reflection from the surface of the unit being illuminated (in a dark room)?

Factory reset seems to have done the trick, but I'm starting down the replacement TV rabbit home. Main need is screen reflection because even with blinds the living room is bright enough that we see ourselves and our window treatments over the picture image during the day, not completely unwatchable, but certainly not great. Even though they weren't standing right next to each other I could hardly tell the difference between the A95K and the G2 on display. The G2 has a heat sink, higher brightness (average picture level) higher peak brightness L, better sound system, but is meant to be wall mounted unless you buy a desperate stand.
The G2 has a 5 year warranty I believe too, and is the Woled flagship model. I wish I'd bought the G2 instead of the C2 but I needed a smaller size than it came in.
If you are spending a lot on a TV I'd go G2 if I had chance again, as the heatsink can help panel longevity, mitigate the ASBL and ABL, and less chance of burn in theoretically due to better thermal management/ heat dissipation.

    • @craigst6755
      @craigst6755 Год назад

Just be aware that the claimed brightness increase of C2/G2 is for 55 inch+ models. I think the lesser sizes do have a bit of brightness increase vs. last year's C1/G1 but not the quoted 30%.

I still wish that you would cover how easy it is to get these monsters serviced by NON-"Authorized" service shops.
I used to be a Sony dealer, 2.5 million years ago (or so it seems) LOL and Sony was excellent to deal with to get service manuals, parts lists and parts.
It would be excellent for people to have an idea, at least, as to what to expect after the warranty is over and when a set fails.
We live in a throw-away society and it just hurts to "throw away" a TV that cost so much, even 4-8 years.
I Love LOVE HD, so that won't change. But as far as quality goes and longevity, I miss the old analog sets that could last 15-20 years.
In our basement and in my Lab, I have some old sets that I just can't toss out, even though they no longer work due to no more analog TV available.
One is a Sony 8" TV that I used for video editing. Still works perfectly and it's well over 20 years old.
I also have a Hitachi, 5" set that is around 38 years old. LOL Yup, still works....
There's even an old RCA (when RCA was actually RCA) that is around 20 years old. And old "under cabinet" color set for the kitchen. Yup, still works.

I love the demo video with the beauty of Bulgaria. Churches, Castles, views. And great review! I think I’ll get the LG.

Because both these TVs are great in every way, I’m focused on upscaling as my determine factor when making a purchase decision. In the past you’ve claimed that Sony is far and away the best at upscaling. In this episode you’re saying it’s a draw. Really? LG has caught up to Sony’s processing power?

I'm doing a dedicated theater room in my basement with an 83 inch. Would you guys recommend the LG G2 or A90J since the A95K only maxes at 65 inch. The room is dark with a tiny window behind which we are putting black out blinds
Fyi I have an A80J in 65 inch in other room and the colors and blacks are absolutely amazing with Dolby vision ❤️

i would recommend the sony if budget is not a constraint. i think the color vibrancy of the sony panels really add a lot to the experience. an added bonus in some of the newer sony tvs can be used as a center channel speaker in a surround sound setup.

LG will be great in a light controlled environment. Save a buck and spend on the sound system

I love the stunning picture of OLED. My concern is burn in especially with station identifications or info bars at bottom like news or sports. Is this a problem over time or has this been licked? If it is still a high concern then I might go with mini LED but they have blooming effects and possibly stuttering panning. Lastly OLED would have diminishing returns on image quality after lets say 5-6 years does it hold up or yeah time to replace? Great reviews thanks.

I think that color washout at off axis angles should have been addressed. QD OLED is clearly superior to WOLED.
