The best recruiting ground in America is in PA, Ohio, and NY/NJ.
The best post collegiate training program is The NLWC in State College, PA.
The top junior club in America M2, headed by one of the greatest Nittany Lions of all time is right nearby.
There is even a growing MMA Gym sponsored by American Top Team that Nickal, Cassar, and others train at after leaving school.

And what will Cael do with the incoming number 1 class? Lillendahl, Duke, Sealey, Mirasola’s….What happens if he gets Bassett in 2 years?
If you wanna see development, watch the Haines/Franek match, and watch Levi grab Frank’s wrist and control his arm, and fight off a good TD attempt by Franek, and in turn, get the TD. Plz tell me the last time you’ve seen that.

The Brands brothers can teach you how to wrestle but so can every other D1 coach. Cael went to PSU bc he knew he would get great talent from the east coast. Once the country saw what he was doing it drew the best from everywhere. His staff is great at making sure they peak and are healthy at the right time. Wrestling is inherently tough, the kids dont need to GRIND every minute of every practice year round. I wont pretend to know what it is like at iowa but it is becoming the place blue chippers go to stagnate. Aaron Brooks looks small at 197 but Cael and staff just figure out what works best for him there. It is where he wants to be so they just support him. Tom and Terry seem to think iowa is sparta and you just weed out the weak by grinding. I am a PA wrestling fan but forgot, until I was at Hershey last year, that kaleb young won a state title at 160 his senior year. He wrestled 157 his final year at iowa. I watched him lift and mat return guys his freshman year at iowa one arm. He was strong enough for 165 or 174. He had to suffer to maintain that weight his whole career. I dont doubt that they love their guys but they are becoming obsolete. If you cant adapt you become extinct.

Didn't the Brands wrestle under coach Dan Gable? Very old school mentality, I imagine. Sanderson is a 21st century athlete and sportsman. Sports medicine and physiology really began to develop through the 80's and 90's, and the science has improved exponentially in these years since the turn of the century. The difference between the methods and mindsets of today versus the 70's is like the difference between the old wild west and the modern western world.

They are a perennial top 3 team, which says a lot. I think (could be wrong) that they should get better assistants. Morningstar and Telford are probably great coaches, but it’s Iowa, they could probably do better . They need to get a couple guys, say Alex Dieringer, where they can learn to coach for the next few years but still provide elite world level skill. They need to bring an outside technique to the coaching. Someone like Jason Nolf would be perfect, but is obviously a long shot. Just my 2 cents, but I’d bet many people would agree they need to change something or continue to win one title every decade to Penn States 8. Unless Iowa gets an amazing recruiting class, Penn st. @Thewrestlecast Cornell, Arizona State, Michigan, and Ohio State have all had more success in finals matches over the last decade. Sure, Iowa is #2, and they produce a lot of all Americans, but when their wrestler's reach the finals - with the exception of Spencer Lee - they lose. Cory Clark was the last Iowa wrestler to win an NCAA title besides Lee, and that was in 2017. Since 2014, the only NCAA champions Iowa has produced are Tony Ramos, Cory Clark, and Spencer Lee. Now, I get that most coaches would be thrilled to have even one NCAA champion, but compared to 80's and 90's Iowa, they always underperformed at nationals. Real Woods, Drake Ayala, Jacob Warner, Mike Kemmerer, and Jaydin Eierman all fell in the finals, and then, if they have another year left, they are often lower on the podium at the following national tournament. I'm not saying Iowa is bad. Iowa is just bad at producing NCAA champions as of late.

Unless Cael was in the room I’d bet he was by far the toughest guy in the room

@@JD-qr5iy Yeah, I get that he is HC, but he doesn't have to act the way he does. He is all of what, 5-8 145 lbs? Gets old.

Yes you are putting my man Sanders on a pedestal. He is an awesome coach. Can you just put the pride down. Secondly you are not using Gabe correctly. Excuse excuses for not using Gabe. Gabe is much better than your wrestler you are using. A dress that elephant in the room why don’t you. Oh yeah it will expose the truth.

Don’t think the coaching would do much in this situation. The wrestlers at Penn State are just better. The wrestlers are the ones that develop themselves. I hate when college coaches take credit. It’s not like college coaches take guys that are newer at wrestling and make them champions and also even with that regardless of what some people do they can never be a champion.
