We came up from Darmstadt. The day the 2 day show was announced I drove up and pre paid for a Hotel across from the track. She hadn't heard and by check-in, we had beds
This was so cool. And it still is. I was 19 at the time and had it on a VHS tape when I got home from a gig myself in the early morning hours. This is what live bands used to sound like, and what they should sound like even today. Unfortunately no such thing any more. I feel sorry for the younger audiences who have no idea what they have not experienced.
I want to be teenager in your generation so bad. To be 19 in 1985? I'm so jealous. Live band nowadays? yeah, it sounds so computer, with most of the instruments is from the playback, its getting worst with those auto-tuned technology. If I ever had the chance to be a teenager in the 80s I think I will never come back to the future 😅
@@alexfinns6162 Indeed it was a festival: Rock am Ring (@the Nurburgring Race Track, Germany -actually the first event of its kind there) I am pretty sure to remember that their full set was a bit longer, though.
Would people have recognized The Power Of Love at this point? People seem like they're cheering for it, but seems early for it to have been out since Back To The Future came out later in the summer.
I was 15 at the time and while I don't remember exactly how they handled it with this particular song, I'm very certain they did release songs from movies and even original soundtrack albums before the movies came out over here. Especially since releases in Europe could happen months after the movie had premiered in the US. Back to the Future US-release was early July 1985, while us Germans had to wait until early October 1985. All that said: According the wikipedia, the official release of The Power of Love was late June 1985 and seeing how this concert was in fact in Germany - this could very well have been the first time any of the guys in the crowd had heard that song. Diving even deeper: The concert in question (Rock am Ring 1985) took place on May 25th and 26th 1985 - and, according to wikipedia, The Power of Love was recorded May 30th 1985. So this performance even pre-dates the official studio version by four or five days.
That's a gig that they'd been doing since 1983, I believe. The amazing thing is that Huey Lewis catches it backhanded with his left hand. Now that's a bossman move!
@@grahamjarman absolutely! It took guts to do it twice in one song in front of a crowd that big. If he misses, that mic is heavy....it will make a massive THUD and hurt everyone's ears. They probably worked on it for hours.
Killer energy!!! GREAT BAND!!! Huey was on!!!
Huey gives it everything he has, and that's quite a LOT! What a performer, and what a band!!!
I was there. Festival was incredible.
Serving in U.S. Army Warner Bareacks Bamberg Germany.
from all the clips - - looks like it was the Concert of a Lifetime - - Wish I coulda experienced it.
@@you2449 Ditto for sure. Missed life opportunities.
Poor Chris! I bet he caught heck from Huey. 😬

Yup, I’m 28 and I love watching sets like this. Huey and the band was truly one of a kind
I wish I was there! 😢
There are actually still great live bands out today carrying the tradition of great live shows!

I was there. Stationed at Spangdahlem AB, GE in the mid 80’s. I still have the ticket stub.
I am happy that I was able to experience it live
Catching the harmonica on the stage during "I wanna new drug". That's not cool, that is super-cool, Mr. Lewis!
Saw them like two days prior in Hamburg with Foreigner and Saga. Magnificent, such a talent they have.
Been there - done it - got a terrible sunburn. 🥵
Was great anyway. 🕺
The days of no tracks. Love it.

Why such a short concert?
@@RussellGreerOfficial I don’t know, it could have been a festival
@@RussellGreerOfficial Pretty sure it’s just the last 4 songs. The drummer has a longer setlist you can see on his kit.

I remember Power of Love having been a big hit around that time without the movie already ..

I think I would sing in a German accent
PLEASE don’t put advertisements in the middle of the songs. How idiotic! 🙄🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️👎👎
