    Scott fascinates me. He seems to be a very reserved guy, but you just know there's so much going on up in his head. It almost seems like it pains him to be wasting time on earth- he seems so much more in his element "up there". I'm really fascinated by astronaut psychology, I really wish there was more literature on it out there- the vast majority of them seem to come back profoundly changed, but they seem to be really good at hiding it. Does that make sense? They're trained professionals of the highest order and no doubt experience the full array of human emotions on their missions, albeit at a much greater depth, but they can't really show them. It's almost like what they experience while in space can't be quantified in any way, so they end up feeling isolated from the rest of humanity. The starkest of contrasts to me was seeing Scott back home in episode 12 of this series... the monotony of everyday life seems so painfully lacklustre for him after living in space-- this highly volatile and deeply mysterious beautiful expanse-- for so long. Seeing him retire to his suburban cookie-cutter house was depressing- I can't imagine the weight of it on him, knowing he'll never get to return to where he's always felt most alive. Time, this was an absolutely incredible series- the best I've seen in ages- and it's an absolute travesty more people haven't been exposed to it. Incredible work.

      Actually, I hope this man also truly knows the sacrifice of his family to further us all.
      Eventually, he is living an amazing adventure and becoming a hero, but his family had to get alone for an entire year with regular life and without no one really caring about how they're doing.
      They are no less heros!

      Ilan Brami-Rosilio I totally agree with you, but I’m 100% positive that families have all the help they need, mental support specifically, and not to mention they probably don’t need financial help. When we speak of sacrifice, this man had bigger cause, and although his family missed him, they should be proud beyond words could describe, since hi did a lot for all humans in the world. You, me, and most of all, some future generations. Cheers to him, his achievements, and his brave family ❤️

      @@daffidavit my geography teacher said that when he was watching the broadcast of the Apollo-11 landing he ran out of the house and looked up to the moon. He was a little kid back then and he said he thought he could see them. This story stuck with me.

    • @daffidavit
      @daffidavit 5 лет назад +1

      Maeguk Just consider the odds about what the chances were of being alive during that special moment in time when (a) "man" (i.e. mankind, no wonder Neil Armstrong got confused ) first walked on the moon. I believe there is a better chance of winning the Powerball than there was being alive during that special moment. When I consider the moment, I always think about how many times our ancestors looked up at the moon and wondered if someday someone might set foot on it.
      BTW, that is a great story about your geography teacher. I'll bet he was not the only kid who ran outside and tried to see the astronauts walking on the moon. The minds of little kids are amazing. We could see things no adult could ever have imagined. Be well and if you still communicate with your teacher, let him know there are others who remember the event as well.

    If my body was in weightlessness for 1 year, coming back to earth I would not be able to walk, I would need a wheelchair and it would be tough just to hold up my head. Gravity would be a shock to the system.

      Luckily they do have a bit of a workout up there - Chris Hadfield was up there for a good number of months and although he said he couldn't really run the way he likes to for about four months, for the most part, he was able to get back to normal life within a few weeks. But you do make a point for sure about the tremendous effects of being away from gravity for a full year.
      Although it would be at TREMENDOUS expense, I think it would be very worthwhile to create a "2001," Stanley Kubrick style space station that actually revolves (and creates artificial gravity) Even if it were three-quarters gravity, it would be better than nothing. And you could do all the 0-G experiments you want in the core/center of the wheel :-)

    I have a question. I recently read his book and was thinking. If humans filled a tank with water and slept in that do you think it could lessen the effects you deal with from living in space? What if the entire space station was full of water? would it help at all for humans if it was more pressurized and why not .. gravity seems so easy to simulate so the whole idea of it not being solved before we try to go to mars seems stupid.

    Scott's wife has an identical twin too,....actress Cheryl Hines. (ok,....not really) but Google her. The resemblance is uncanny. (They're both equally beautiful too 😊)

    Um astronauta mostrando pra esposa como o controle remoto funciona é engraçado, eu imagino um astronauta casado com uma pessoa igualmente inteligente ou superior kkk, I guess I'm wrong.

    My favorite astronaut is Cris Hadfield. Scott lacks the appeal and enthusiasm.. He's a nice chap through.
