    Cuban, gypsy jazz, surf - that’s ticking a lot of boxes! (next? spy film noir which seems right around the corner). At a gig today I copped some ideas from your lesson on I’ll See You In My Dreams and it fit in nicely, thanks for the inspiration Alex!

      Big Time & Bone Machine completely blew my youngster brain too, but I had no idea for decades why and how you could get to something so spiky, capricious, sexy but plain musical like that. (Taking a while to learn guitar being a dummer might be a factor too, heh..) Thanks a lot for channels like Alex' I might finally start to get it. Check also Joe Gore's (guitar on Bone Machine ao) channel for more rich "wide legacy" playing.

BTW, Joe Gore (on his Tonefiend channel) just posted a great dual piece of Joe's played with Jim Campilongo, so much overlap here. @AlexFarranGuitar  Год назад +1

  • @floydmorrison2025
    @floydmorrison2025 Год назад +1

    Oh boy..not sure how this one slipped by me! Utterly fantastic lesson, Alex!!! You ALWAYS speak my language, but a Ribot lesson is akin to speaking my dialect, accent & slang as well! 🤣 I'm totally stealing that Db7 "X" shape tri-tone sub thing & also that absolutely wicked 9th with the b3rd on top double stop thing... that is SO NASTY, man!!! It really doesn't get any more Ribot than that!! I really appreciate how you talk about (for lack of a better term) what kind of "attitude" the right hand should be playing with. So many teachers neglect to mention that aspect of playing. Or maybe it just gets forgotten in the deluge of theory & technique, etc.. But it's SOOOO important to mention where it's not only OK to hit wrong notes, but actually encouraged!!! Ribot himself always plays his best when he sounds as if he couldn't give seven fucks about hitting a wrong note 🤣🤣Thanks so much for this amazing solo & lesson, Alex! I stand by my previous assertion that you're as good, if not a better player than Ribot himself, and you should be Tom Waits' next guitar player 🤷‍♂😱🙏🙌

    • @AlexFarranGuitar
      @AlexFarranGuitar  Год назад

      Haha man, I couldn’t possibly ask for a better compliment than that!.. I would of course give anything to play alongside Mr Waits 🫡
      Really glad you enjoyed the video mate, and glad I could provide something worthy of being stolen! 😂 That Db7 tritone sub idea is a winner for sure.. I probably over use it to be fair 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

      @@AlexFarranGuitar Deluxe might be the best recording amp ever. Only topped by the Princeton, if anything at all. Something about 40 watts and 2 12s live that just sits and, more importantly for me. “feels” perfect in a live mix. Can’t go wrong with any Fender amp pre-1972 though. Your taste in amps is excellent, sir 😎

    • @AlexFarranGuitar
      @AlexFarranGuitar  Год назад +1

      Thanks mate, same to you!.. a man of taste for sure! I agree, the deluxe is what I take to 90% of my session work, it never fails and it takes pedals extremely well too 👌🏻

    • @Scratch_Monsters_Golf
      @Scratch_Monsters_Golf Год назад +1

      @@AlexFarranGuitar as much as I hate to admit it, I have a Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb (blonde model that is modeled after a Deluxe with the bright cap clipped…better reverb too), and that gets the nod for most club gigs these days. It’s just so damn light and convenient…and it’s pretty damn close tone wise to a vintage DR, too. Is it as good? Nope. It’s about 90% there though, and for a bunch of drunks in a bar, 90% is close enough. Direct out to FOH with an attenuator to keep stage volume down for the club owners and sound guys that can’t mix anything loud 🙄😂 Still got the real deal at the house for dates that need 100%, but the blonde Tonemaster DR will surprise you. Worth a test drive for anyone reading this.

    • @AlexFarranGuitar
      @AlexFarranGuitar  Год назад

      Oh man, I’ve been so close to picking one of those up a few times now. The lightness of it is super appealing. You really reckon it’s 90% of the way there?.. how do you find it takes pedals? I’ve heard conflicting stories on it’s ability to handle drive pedals 🤷🏻‍♂️
