I think for question 13, the fatty acids have to be short and unsaturated because in colder temperatures, this can help the membranes to maintain its fluidity, by making them fit together more loosely. Similarly, “short and unsaturated fatty acids” in triglyceride increase its fluidity, which makes it more easily mobilised and metabolised (broken down), thus providing energy for mammals in colder conditions.
More bio content pls! I'm resitting chem and bio AS right now, but I'm taking bio A level for may/june too. These videos have been really helpful since I'm mostly doing past papers and reviewing them after all day. Also I think for q13, I was thinking since triglycerides are needed to store energy, that the short chain unsaturated acids can then be broken down faster in cold climates. But I put B instead for that because long chain would give more energy?? I'm guessing there's something wrong in my explanation then lol.
IT WOULD BE A LOT MORE USEFUL IF YOU EXPLAINED WHY THE SAID STATEMENTS (EG QUESTION 27 WHICH IS OBSURDLY MISWORDED) ARE TRUE INSTEAD OF JUST QUOTING THE MARK SCHEME
Q13, I thought of it like in colder climates when mammals need to break down the lipids to get energy it’d be more useful for for them that they are converted to liquid form at a lower temperature. If they had long chain saturated it’d be more difficult to be broken so affecting their survival when there’s not enough sources of food. I might be wrong tho
13 is D because mammals living in cold conditions would need their triglycerides to be broken down at lower temperature so their triglycerides must be short and unsaturated

No d) is correct in the mark-scheme
@@Islamicreminderforummah that's what I've said, "short and unsaturated"
But you mentioned triglycerides making membrane which is not the case as membrane is made up of phospholipids.

can you please solve F/M/2023 VARIANT 12
Any updates on that question 13?
13 is D
because mammals living in cold conditions would need their triglycerides to be broken down at lower temperature
so their triglycerides must be short and unsaturated
