As noted in my previous comments, I have had four i7 series MS Surface Pro 4 units over the last several years. After extensive testing and experience with these specific units, I can tell you this is quite simply a build flaw. The fan cannot properly handle the heat coming off the i7 series configuration. At certain temperatures, the fan pulses rather than starting up and just running, which would be way better. The pulse sounds like a bird chirping...and it will do it for hours until it is restarted or you change the heat load on the system (e.g. open up more apps). The only true solution is...replace the Pro 4 with (1) a newer build, or (2) downgrade to a less powerful configuration that the fan can handle (e.g. the i5 series). There is no other fix. MS is well aware of this issue, but now that the Pro 4 is "retired", there never will be public admission to this flaw, nor a true fix. They've moved on...
This is due to that the fan are starting and stoping - it's a software bug or Firmware, my Surface Pro 2017 are sounding the same when the fan are starting but just one swish as its not starting and stopping all the time.
I've had a total of four of the 1724 build SP4s with i7 processors, 16gb RAM, 256 gb SSD. ALL four of them have the intermittent "chirping" fan noise under normal use. MS disagrees that it is a design flaw, similar to how they handled the swollen battery issues (which is related to how long you leave your SP4 docked...the MS fix for that is to set the battery charge limiter to 50% !), but now that they have the SP6 models out, the fan "chirping" noise issue will apparently be buried and forgotten.
Same issue here.. I just discovered the noise tonight when drawing in Photoshop. Only thing I can gather is that all these comments are current (within the last days to a couple of weeks), which points to software related behaviour. Hey OP, any word or luck from Microsoft ? I just installed the latest updates from Windows Update, as well as the Surface support site, but nothing.
Farshad L hey, yeah mine has corrected itself since this.. though I had to wait for a few software revisions to come out but I haven't run into it in a while now. I called Microsoft and one thing their support rep got me to do was shut the Surface right off and then hold power and I believe volume + This boots the tablet into a diagnostic/ quick view mode but apparently this recalibrates the fans and such. After that I just exited the mode and haven't had the issue since. Let me know if this works.
+Adrian Foy Many thanks for your explanation. How long should I keep the power button and volume +? When I hold it, my system go to a white boot menu and restart repeatedly!
Guys guys chill out that happens to everyone of them, its literally a laptop. If u use it much or using smth valuable on the microsoft surface it will make that noise the same at any laptops
@@Jushwamy sp3 had the thing dying at 50%, same thing is happening all over again with sp4 and u know opening this thing is a pain, mine also has touch issues sometimes and the whole screen starts glitching up and down.

Dude, Just setup a fan curve. It's not that deep.
This is due to that the fan are starting and stoping - it's a software bug or Firmware, my Surface Pro 2017 are sounding the same when the fan are starting but just one swish as its not starting and stopping all the time.
Mine STILL makes this noise even today. Any help would be AMAZING. I've done ALL of the updates as well.
Find a firmware update online

this happens 2016? I got a surface laptop recently and still have the same problem
My best advise is low power mode
USA USA USA all the way baby. It's more like a surface dj now lol.
my problem is that I don't have that passport

Hey, I installed about 3~4 more updates since I posted this video and the noise is now gone.
Awesome! Thanks, I'll give that a go.

Did your problem also solved after updating?
Mine still persist after updating till now.

same here! selling faulty products. really annoying
If it's posible, try tweaking fan speed in bios. I'm not Surface user but looking to buy one.
hey! i have the same noise just not repeating it self over and over, this sound only comes out when the fan kicks in. is that normal?
not normal at all. Try installing all the updates
Jinhong Saw its always up to date bro. Btw i got it over and over again once when i was in my car in a hot day
Jesus. You too! It's the fan pulsing i think
I am having this issue only started recently. Did you find a solution?
It is really annoying. Can I just unplug the fan?
I have this problem too, but after 20mins it will stop making that noise!
Has anyone figured a solution to this?
I had the same problem. but now my fan makes a buzzing ticking noise
SAME HERE
Does that sound came back again anymore?
No it eventually went away
interesting, my girl friend's doesn't, and there is still no solution from Microsoft.
yup, i face this issue ... any solution ?
same... i just put it into sleep, close it up, (put keyboard to the screen) and pat like you would on a infant where the noise is.
This happened to me when i entered my password 2 times and it was wrong. Then it restarted and made these noises.
Sounds like a little it bitty doggie stuck in there
what happened to your surface? My surface is the same - not sure if it's normal or not?
Noise is no longer present after software updates. I am on KB3194496 now.
Has this sound gone away for you?
Farshad L nope because I returned the surface few days before I got the answer. I thought it would be the hardware. :(

Nope can literally hear the fan ramping to 100% then cutting back to 0. It’s faulty junk. Sp3 pro didnt have this issue.
@@Jushwamy sp3 had the thing dying at 50%, same thing is happening all over again with sp4 and u know opening this thing is a pain, mine also has touch issues sometimes and the whole screen starts glitching up and down.
I don’t even think mine works
Yeah mine's been doing that for a few months now too.
san andreas sound choose
I have the same problem. Is it hardware or software?
I think software bug caused hardware malfunction. Now gone, however; try installing updates.
dear jinhong, I have installed all the updates till now, but I still have this weird fan noise. Haven't you encountered this noise anymore?
Haven't encountered it since. Try using it only on a table. Maybe the fan is tilting and not liking it, although that shouldn't matter at all.
Same issue here i was so scaredd, I wav this tablet !
Processor overheating
Its a bomb it will explode 😂
Thanks for the help
@@Carter_YTC maybe fans are broken or there is dust
Mine kinda does that
lol same
Oh wait that’s my alt
i have the same issue yet.
Инопланетянин тревога
I have the same problem
Best solution. Keep it in refrigerator for 5-10 mins. Then use it after it cools down.
Mine started doing this for the first time today; lasted about as long as it took me to find the link to this video on answers.microsoft
