The biggest mistake the Rebels made was actually trying to invade the Capital. They should have maintained the blockade until the Capital finally ran out of supplies.
Facts. They could’ve held out another year or two and let the Capitalists dwindle out. Then gradually march in and start the clean up process.
Yeah it didn’t make sense of why they did attack.
Go full siege. At the end of the day they have all the resources the capital doesn’t produce anything
Capitol *
@MonkeyBanjo7 none of the decision making made sense. They had it. They won then they backed down and gave up?
I want to see how Pannem got to the dark days
We did, go watch the start of the first movie and the poverty of district 12
Me too ... I wanted to know is this like a Civil War kind of thing or something else....also did we get the dark days or the first rebellion before the dark days? Was it like WW3
@@Stackhouse02 I mean more details aside from like. Just what the dark days were like for people in the capital
Or just about how Panem became Panem
@@Stackhouse02that was long after the dark days
I think looking at the Snow's perspective in the dark days really shows how his trauma informed why he ruled the way he did over the capitol and the districts.
after seeing the opening scenes in the new movie, it really made me interested in that first war
I really wish there was a whole book explaining the entire history of panem and before. I've heard theories that natural disasters destroyed the world around them but something detailed would be amazing
Edit: the natural disasters was actually in the books sorry! :)
The natural disasters thing is actually mentioned in the books
@@Ragetothefullest oh sorry about that I read the books a year ago
What if what destroyed the world was Skynet and Panem is america after the nuclear war and the war against the machines.
@@_.moi._nothing wrong with forgetting something like that but what’s the point in saying you read it a year ago? then shouldn’t u remember that detail? lol
@@ECLECTRIC_EDITSthere is a theory that the movie 2012 is in the same universe as the hunger games
I’d love to see Tigris get her own origin story - starting from the time Coriolanus apprenticed under Gaul at university, when Tigris & Coriolanus fell out & severed ties with each other & finally to the point where she helps Katniss & the rebels.
I find very possible that their falling out was due to Snow giving the winners to other people. Selling their bodies. Maybe it was a step too far to her. In TBOSAS is implied she sold herself to make end meet although never confirmed. And even if she didn't, the idea certainly passed through her head. Even if she didn't do it, it seemed so horrible and maybe she even tolerated the first few times Snow sold the winners, but eventually it became too much for her.
I second this
i third this@@pxxv5370
Same here
a TV show
Realistically speaking, did the rebels even need to launch an invasion? The capitol doesnt seem to produce any goods of their own, so the districts could just set up their own blokade, until the capitol is forced to give up.
i wouldn’t be surprised if it was Capitol itself which planted this idea through spy networks to incentivize an obviously failed plan
Good Point , but I think it talked about that
Dumb wirtting anyway. They can't even plan a simple march over a mountain yet can master a even more complicated siege.
They didn't, no. But Rebellions tend to be emotional things, and it's very much on brand that the Rebels would be too impatient to wait for the Capital to starve to death. Also that they would want to KILL the Capital, not merely walk in there and clean up the corpses. An Army, lead by a General, at the behest of a Nation, can have the kind of discipline needed to do a long-term blockade, but rebels? That would be far more difficult to believe.
I think they must produce something , or at least have a little food stored .
Or the capital might just be that dumb
I've always had a theory that the pox outbreak that nearly destroyed District 13 and killed Coin's family was actually a Capitol plot. How else could people as isolated as 13 have a viral outbreak? Maybe 13 wasn't dying off as fast as the Capitol hoped and they clearly wanted to reclaim it. In Mockingjay, Plutarch Heavensbee even tells Katniss (much to her shock and annoyance) about how biological warfare works.
I definitely believe this theory
@ina7107 Also, they couldn't just use a chemical attack like the fog on them because they would've survived it 100%. Then called in the treaty and simply nuked the Capitol. Bio weapons would be only way the Capitol could attack 13 and still have deniabilty. They would simply need to send an infected, "escaped" Avox into the woods near 13. With 13 out of the way, there would be nothing in existence to stop the Capitol. They had the means and the motive. Only it didn't quite work in the end. 13 still managed to survive but by the time of Mockingjay they still hadn't recovered all of their population.
Mutated Cowpox maybe.
It would be cool if Collins did a book or a series of books exploring the Dark Days following the perspectives of various different characters so that we can get a full picture of what it was like during that time and to further expand on the world of Panem.
Heck, I can imagine the ending of the book or series of books being the formation of the treaty that started the Hunger Games.
Yes! More lore!
Tbh the book (TBOSAS) talks a lot about what it was like since Coryo and Tigris grew up in the dark days. It was a lot of starving and even people eating each other. Pretty sure it’s implied that Tigris had to resort to selling her body at one point too.
The brutality of the Dark Days was really important to Snow’s development. But If Collin’s were to write anything for it from a random capitol citizen’s POV I think a novella would suffice.
@@Morning_Starr What I was thinking of was to follow the POVs of various different people from different Districts and the Capitol, just to get a general idea of what the Dark Days were like and not be on just one POV like in the book and film.
@@lukebaxter3252 That’s hard to pull off and I don’t think multiple POVs is Collins’ style imo. 🤷🏻♀️
@@Morning_Starr Then she could have each book in a series that focuses on different perspectives, or novellas.
I think that the dark days are one of the most interesting loose ends of the hunger games. So many outcomes could have happened which makes it so interesting
I would really love a anthology detailing the world before Panem, the apocalypse that destroyed it, the creation of Panem, the Dark Days and the country/world after the capital fell.
A good idea would be a hunger games tv series focusing on the foundation of panem due to natural disasters, what lead to the dark days and what happened during it. Like a civil war series
I would like to see the collapse of America and the formation of Panem in a TV series. We could start by showing the natural disasters and nuclear wars gradually wear away at the old world order, then a warlord period following the fall of America before one or a coalition of warlords form Panem. It could be a mix of Game of Thrones and Man in the High Castle!
@@liamh1015 I would watch that
Fan theory, the "natural disaster" was the Skynet destroying the earth and thr Hunger Games is a sequel to the Terminator following what happens to America after John and the Resistance win the war.
@@liamh1015
I used to think that Panem was in future North America (based on the books) but in the movies l (especially after ballad of songbirds and snakes) it seems more like it’s set in an alternate universe where the U.S. collapses between the end of WWII and the late 1960s after some form of ecological disaster (this is based off the vehicles, the aircraft, the technology in Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes)
Unless there was some form of crazy technological regression in this timeline or a period where everyone decided to have some form of 60s callback…
I do hope it is still a future America, but based on what I saw I am not so sure anymore.
@@vagasint.4345I made this headcanon crossover idea that The Hunger Games takes place in the future of the Fallout universe where The Enclave returns this time they finally won and the main events of The Hunger Games takes place 300 years after The Enclave returns this time they finally won
if I were the filmmakers on a ballad of songbirds and snakes I would have added a post credits scene where it cuts to 64 years later and we see president snow the day of the reaping of the 74 hunger games basically it would have been a cameo with Donald Sutherland we see him watching the reaping live and then it ends with the scene of Katniss volunteering in place of prim and snows eyes go hide then the credits roll I feel that would have been the perfect ending
I speculate that District 13 initiated the First Rebellion against the Capitol, and it seems quite convenient that they withdrew from the war, leaving the other Districts to bear the consequences. It appears that the primary objective of the First Rebellion was to secure independence for District 13. This was achieved by acquiring and stockpiling nuclear weapons, creating a situation of mutual destruction that afforded District 13 more time to organize a more successful rebellion.
Moreover, the suffering endured by the other Districts as a result of their rebellion may have strategically positioned District 13 to manipulate and consolidate blind loyalty out of the Districts' hatred of the Capitol. This manipulation served to empower District 13 in orchestrating the overthrow of the Capitol, intending to replace the existing government with its own vision of governance. However, a notable issue arises with District 13's governance structure, characterized by isolation, strict control, and a robotic nature. While similar to the Capitol in prioritizing logic and obedience, District 13 lacks the emotional aspect, valuing these qualities over morality and free will. The blind loyalty aspect became more apparent when Coin wanted to do another Hunger Games on the Capitol's children to consolidate the Districts' hatred and blind loyalty.
Overall, I think the leaders of District 13 envied the power of the Capitol and wanted to become the Capitol themselves and groomed successors like Coin to ensure their vision came to pass. However, their plans become ruined by Katniss when she executes Coin in front of all of Panem, likely marking many with the belief that Coin is as sinister as Snow.
This is really good.
No, District 13 also suffered oppression from the Capitol and initially they were standing with other districts. Why, they could have seized the Capitol's nukes from the beginning and just seceded. The reason they settled for such an arrangement was because the rebel forces were damaged beyond repair and could no longer win the war. They could only free 13.
@@palmtreesmusic194513 were cowards. They were the leader of the rebellion, made a tactical error by trying to invade the Capitol, failed miserably and then threatened all out nuclear war when they realized they weren’t going to win. They betrayed the other districts and are no better than the capitol
You can no idea how excited I was to see this video title, I’ve been trying to find a full explanation of the dark days/pre-hunger games panem!!! As always, great job and thank you for all your hard work ❤
One of the best breakdown channels out there 👍
🎉yes
I have been a subscriber for almost 6 years and I've literally watched every video and I look forward to every new one. The quality and awesome content has never changed over the years and I always recommend your channel to new people in these fandom to learn more keep up the great work
When they were talking about the dark days in the books and the movie it really scared me because there was a lot of suffering and pain to the point where people would eat each other, become drug addicts, and become cannibals, it's also very scaring because for the kids to see them doing these things is just horrifying to think about as a little kid because it could have happened to them so it's just scary to think about.
I never read the books, so I only know what the movies have said. This was such an informative and well crafted in depth dive of Panem’s dark days. I’m glad I have a better understanding of what the writer was trying to portray - I literally laid awake last night after seeing the new movie coming up with theories, so this settled my curiosity!
thank you so much!! i've been looking forever for a video like this explaining the rebellion and the dark days!! i would love to see more videos like these
Omg yess I’ve always wanted a deep dive of this bc I’m such a hunger games fan 😅❤
Love ur channel
6:13 finally someone who makes hunger games related content finally says that district 13 basically betrayed the other 12 districts.
Like I hear so many not mention that. Thank you!
After watching the newest movie I have fallen in love with this world again.
i hope they included the dialogues that show how war affected the students. that exchanging line of Coriolanus with one of mentors (i don't remember who) talking about which food that still taste like war to them. that really struck deep in me
our dear suzanne collins leaves me so many questions and i always go to this channel
The dark days are very interesting but I want to learn about the exact winners and what happened in the other hunger games that weren't in the books. It will be very interesting to watch if Collins write about the other games and you make a video about them
I think that's the irony of the Hunger Games franchise...deep down we're all closer to becoming those in the capitol, who are entertained by the games, than we think
I'm always so happy to see a new upload from you! Made my Friday better ❤
Wow I’ve read all 4 books but almost 80% of this video was a new information for me! Thank you for the video
For some reason i love snow character now.. especially since i love villains and them actually winning for once.
When villains win it never lasts though, they always get defeated in a future instalment, and that applies to snow.
He is my favourite character though.
the dark days really intrigues me and I hope we see more of it in the future
I would love a short series on the hunger games, games 1-9, maybe like a short series TV show to fill us in on the dark days. I feel like it could be cool.
nah better is if it was all 75 hunger games in one series
Now I really want to see a What If the Rebels Won the War.
Yeah that'd be cool. So would What If the Capital Won the Second War
I realized Snow is talking about himself in the opening lines in the video, gave me chills.
That deal that district 13 made doesn't seem very advantageous. Living underground and not getting the fresh air and sunlight they needed and their district was nuked so where did they get food to survive ?
I think I remember reading that district 1 and 2 were on the capitals side and not with the rebels as well
I’m starting to think Panem was inspired by the real life country of North Korea, there are so many similarities between the two. I’ve heard NK defectors talk about how the majority of the country is extremely poor and underfed, during famines there would be bodies all over the place, rats would be eating them, sometimes starving people would resort to eating them. The rest of the country doesn’t have reliable electricity or infrastructure, but the capitol, the city of Pyongyang, gives off the illusion of a first world country, and it said those that are loyal and in favor to the leader Kim Jung-Un get to live there and enjoy luxury and privilege. The current regime rules with brutality and fear and will punish or execute anyone that defies it, even in the smallest ways by associating with western culture, like watching a popular film or wearing a popular brand from the U.S.
I don’t know if the extreme similarities between Panem and NK are intentional are not. Panem districts sound like Hell on Earth and it’s even more horrifying to learn that there’s actually a real place, currently on this Earth that is just like it.
My friend and I just saw the movie tonight and we got talking on how Suzane needs to give us more background. I'm not saying go full J.R.R. Tolkien, but maybe some short stories of people's backgrounds, like Cinna, Johanna, even more about Finnick, Annie or Mags. I would love to hear more about Haymithes time in the games, it would just be fantastic
An anthology series about these standout characters would be brilliant
*TV series
Thank you for uploading this. This is very helpful insight to what the dark days really were.
Great videos as usual!!!! Keep up the good content!!❤❤🎉🎉🎉
love the vids man, especially the hugner games
One thing I’m always wondering is what is going on in the rest of the world while the US has turned into Panem
Same here!
It's like asking what the rest of the world was doing when the Aztec and other native americans were doing their own stuff for thousands of years. They just didn't care about what's across the vast ocean once again.
@@randomlygeneratedname7171 well this is the US tho.. kind of everybody cares what they do since they effect every other nation
@@youman953🙃 Maybe not in the HG universe.
The rebels really had the capital in the first half and then fumbled the bag in the 2nd
Funny how District 13 was the ringleader for the rebels for both the first and second rebellion. At least they won the second time.
I had just watched this movie today, and I thought it was one of the best movies. All I want to do is watch it over and over again, but know I get to read the book!!
I don't blame District 13 for doing what they did. We don't really have a grasp on what the size of the rebel forces were or the logistical situation but I dont see them pulling out unless they were close to the end after the failed attack on the capital. Only other option would be to carry on fighting as guerillas.
That's the rebels' mistake: they attacked. They managed to isolate Capitol and force it to either surrender or starved to death. If they really wanted to destroy Capitol they should nuke it using 13's arsenal
Soooo glad your making more hunger games content
In most maps of panem canada is seen as the wilderness i wonder whats there. are there any remaining people??? are they mutated people from the war? also it would be cool if we saw what the entire world looked like at a global scale
Ive always thought that, yes its possible that 'Panem' is the only surviving nation in the world, but at the same time that's exactly what the capitol would want people to believe. In TBOSAS, one of Snow's classmates (can't remember the name) father is the naval commander, and if there was only 1 nation left why is there a need for a navy? Additionally, Snow sees deserted cities on his train ride to D12 and wonders what they were once like, so its also possible that there would be small enclaves of people still scattered around these cities over both Panem and the world. Just a fun little observation and idea of mine. :)
I imagine panem as "Pangea" or basically, just one continent on the earth.
Edit: Reason being that other countries and continents just couldn't exist in that universe
Canada, as I understood it, was part of this constitutional oligarchy, under the boundaries of Districts 7, 9, 6, and 13.
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
This channels quality is just trough the roof
I know this is crazy by id love more books or movies showing the pre history of the dark days, what lead to them, what panem was like before them, and the first presidents of panem. Also
Sidenote more hunger games footage and any rebellious tributes whose rebellions were sniffed by snow or other presidents
Content is straight fire bro!
I think the reason behind why District 2 still participated in the games despite being the Capitol's ally is because since 2 is a large district with villages based around a mine, the outer villages were the ones that rebelled while the inner villages didn't. The outer villages weren't as strong, unified, or prosperous as the inner villages. The Capitol seeing that knew they could somehow manipulate the inner villages as a stronghold for control if they were to win the war. So when the Capitol did actually win the war, they provided all of District 2 with good living conditions. But since part of the district did rebel, they used that as something to stand on making it seem like that despite their "loyalty", it was they who were responsible for participating in these games. And provided those good living conditions as a way to make it look like the hunger games were a competition of honor when they weren't. This also explains why the Nut which was located in the center of the village was the last Capitol stronghold to fall when the rebels easily secured the outer villages
Honestly though, the entire system of Panem just doesn't work, because if everything comes from the districts, the moment the district stop providing, the system colapses. So it makes no sense that they lose the war, because again, everything came frome the districts
They really need to make a hunger games book and movie about the dark days and the first rebellion and the first rebellion 3 year war. And I really want to see the really old district 13 during the dark days/the first rebellion before their district became independent from the capital and other districts and then the citizens of district 13 moved underground. But it’s unknown how long it took him to build the underground bunker in district 13 independent from the capital in the districts. And I really want to see all 13 really old districts during the dark days before we see them in the original trilogy and the original movies.
Thank you. Someone finally talked about dark days
Despite being the wealthiest district, district 1 is actually pretty rebellious. They were actually one of the first districts to rebel during the second rebellion. The only reason why they're a "Capitol friendly" district is due to the Luxury items they produce for the Capitol. And on the consequences of punishment, District 1 needs to keep producing Luxury and pleasure in return for the best living conditions and training for the Hunger Games. It seems as if being a tribute is a great honor and their victors are treated as heroes as due to a good portion of their population being brainwashed. But still many of them put up that front cuz if they don't, their punishment is probably worse than that of district 11
omg i was looking for a video on this ! yess
I've always wondered how the districts were formed. How America eventually turned into Panem and why there was a single capitol and 13 districts.
I really hope Maggs Book is after Haymitch's which is set to be release March 2025 with the movie following in 2026. Maggs won the games right after Lucy Gray, so it would be nice to get her book in 2026 & the her movie the following year.
One thing I'm a bit confused about was whether or not District 1 and 2 where loyal to the Capitol during the first rebellion, or if they were part of the rebellion. Or it could be that while Districts 1 and 2 did initially side with the rebels, as the war turned towards the Capitol's favor, they switched sides, siding with the Capitol against the rebellious Districts in favor of better treatment.
I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject but do educate me on the loyalties of District 1 and 2.
I think 1 and 2 (maybe 4 as well) were split down the middle while the other districts were overwhelmingly supportive of the rebels
District 2 was pretty much completely loyal
@@JamesZheyuXu I'm not so sure, the BOSAS book says the Plinth family are "despised" in District 2 because of their support for the Capitol and ultimate defection during the Dark Days
@@andyw8025 Well,I’m not so sure too, maybe it’s more or less like the 2 rebellion, where most are loyal to the capitol while the miners and masons favor the rebels? And the Plinths are hated overwhelmingly by everyone in 2 because of their rapid ascendancy to the top of Panem? It might also be that at first, District 2 (and maybe 1) were a little tempted to join the rebel, but then decided not to join?
A video on the Second Rebellion would be nice in the future.
I think that the Dark Days are an analogue of the US Civil War. And Snowden is an analogue of Woodrow Wilson. As both saw first hand how things fall appart during a lack of central authority and this turn them into autocrats in their adult lives
US civil war? Plz, stop kiddin. Better read sth about the great hunger in the Ukraine and the history od Leningrad.

Yay more movieflame vids on hunger games :D
The dark days are interesting, hearing how Snow suffered, what people went through really shines a light on why Snow behaved the way he did.
Good video, Morgan! 🎉
I would love to read a book about it.
see I’ll still never understand why district 13 decided to double cross the districts and pull out of the war and especially what made them decide to finally help again after 75 years
I wonder if Snow learnt about what happened to 13 and also when/ at what point in his life does he find out that 13 was never truly destroyed. In the book you can see he is not very good at predicting events (he always makes the wrong prediction), so he may have learnt about it when he became president but assumed that they had all died out by this point.
District 1 and 2 definitely weren’t always capitol favorites as we saw in songbirds many of them were extremely rebellious they didn’t become loyal towards the capitol when snow came to power
After I watched The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes they should give this series the TV series reboot treatment as Harry Potter and Twlight to stream on Netflix and for as fans to spend time each season in the Hunger Games battles and follow the different characters both in the Capital and the Districts to go full mature with the violence and killing and that my friends would be a TV series we would actually like.
MOVIE FLAME MAKES HIS RETURN TO MY SIGGESTIONS
Such a good explanation!!
The worst part is, the rebels came so close to winning, only for victory to escape from them. If the rebels had waited for just a few more months, they could have choked the capitol into submission and forced them to surrender.
If ther had been there nations they could have been invaded
Not the videos we want but the videos we need 🤝
5:59 well joke’s on the rebels for sending in a squad to invade the whole capital apparently
It would be cool to get a animated series about the dark days like the clone wars
I like seeing the prequels to the hunger games, and the more flushed out it can be, the happier i am.
this was awesome to watch!
I’d love to see a breakdown of the map. I was surprised when I saw a real official map in the movie. That’s the first official map that’s ever been released isn’t it? Every other map I’d seen was fan made. I was surprised parts of Mexico were included in district 10. I’d love to hear how modern day America and Mexico fell. What led to the future dystopia in the first place. And if there are any other countries besides Panem. Especially “up north” as the characters keep referring to.
Hi movieflame I don’t know if you will see this but I’d like your thoughts on what most likely happens to Lucy Gray. Like any and all theories/conspiracy cameos in the og hunger games ranked from least to most likely. I like to think that she is the lady in the black market in district 12 who buys frequent rabbit/game from Katniss but I’d love your take on it. It could be a short too I’ll take anything 😊
If the rebel didn’t try to invade the capital and just keep the blockade going the capital wouldn’t have been able to survive without supplies
I’m very curious to learn about the capitals initial rise to power
Very complete ! Good job 👍 how do you know all this😮
It would be cool to see a movie about the dark days

Outsourcing your nuclear arsenal seems like something you shouldn't do.
I know it’s not that easy but my idea they could do (the districts) they could Make a fake bomb warning and the bomb the bunker.
I was just thinking so just comment.
Great stuff
In my opinion, the biggest tactical blunder that the Rebels made was actually trying to invade the Capitol instead of just waiting it out and watch the Capitol tear itself apart
I hope you do detail comparisons between the books and movies like you did Harry Potter
Damn! District 13 was cold at the end of this war. And pragmatic. And logical. Well played.
Brutal. But well played.
can you make a movie vs book on the ballad of songbirds and snakes?

Wonder what it felt like to be in the dark days, the construction in the hunger games new movie was beautiful to show they are stronger then ever and this won’t ever happen again
This is why ı feel the Rebels were almost as awful as the Capitol.Coryo and other Capitol children were just kids, too they did not deserve to go through that.Having said that,of course it does not justify his actions later on.And later on Coin and the rebel team was also just as awful if not more.
