Most videos I've seen about this game said that it's fun and namedropped some trivia they've read about in order to give a little bit of context. But this is the only video I've seen with this amount of love and passion about everything and everyone in the roster. While style select is great and i'd love to see a new episode about that, I kinda missed you just gushing about stuff you like. Great video, ABI!
Coco getting in really was a happy surprise. She's the one that got me into the whole thing; and honestly has probably one of the most unhinged and hilarious personality.
It just hit me that V-tubers are to RUclipsrs what Pro-Wrestlers are to martial artists: actors behind a fictional persona with wacky designs, lore, and personalities who are promoted (and sometimes managed and manufactured) by a media company for the purpose of real-time, long-term entertainment. This makes Hololive akin to WWE. I refuse to elaborate further.
I never got into hololive. I'm still not into it now, but I'm still very happy to see how many people were excited by this game. If hololive can create a bridge to bring more people into fighting games, then I'm happy.
Its kinda nice and refreshing seeing someone from the fgc that is genuinely enjoying everything about this game, and not just going "bro ngl vtubers are kinda cringe but the game is fun I guess and its hella famous so might as well play it for the numbers" which is palpable with like every other fgc influencers out there.
i know you wanted to keep this video company and casual freindly, but i think it would be better to mention the effect coco had not only on hololive but also the rest of the industry, the harassment coco had to endure before the graduation (even if it's not necescrily the only reason for it), and the fact that she is still in the business and achieving her dream of being with kiryu kazuma. love all your videos, it's so rare to find fgc content that treats fighting game mechanics not only as refences or competetive depth but art that deserves to be analysed
What I like the most about Idol Showdown's recent success is that even FGC vets who have little to no knowledge or interest in hololive or vtubers have tried it and said that it's a very well made fighting game. It just goes to show how a good game can draw people in no matter what the subject material is.
As another resident of the crosssection of fandoms between both fighting games and vtubers, the level of respect for Hololive in this video is moving. Thanks for making this video.
I hardly keep up with Hololive or Vtubers, but as a more general idol fan and fan of the channel I enjoyed the video. I didn't know anything Kiryu Coco's importance. The talk about someone with a very loud personality pulling people together and pushing her company forward reminded me of Hello Project's Tsugunaga "Momochi" Momoko (...and tying this back to Hololive both Pekora and Aqua have talked about Momochi being an influence on them as idols)
Don't underestimate the number of Hololive fans also into fighting games. The opposite isn't as true, though. This is the perfect blend of Hololive references and fighting game references. The easy inputs but with traditional commands that give a bonus is right out of GBVS. The Super Chat cancels are HD cancels from KoF13. If Ayame had a double jump and air dash, she'd basically be a Melty character. Haven't seen a fighting game reference crossover this good since Kemono Friends Fight.
The fact that Ayame is that close to being from Melty Blood is kinda funny when you take into account that Suisei is the one with a Melty Blood-themed alternate colour scheme (referencing Sion Eltnam Atlasia).
At this point I think Hololive is becoming a memetic virus, that's consuming and combining with medía until talking about wathever you like and not talking about Hololive is going to be the a nigh impossible challenge.
Despite having watched some footage of Kizuna Ai, I feel like I've been introduced (or reintroduced) to Vtubers by Koefficient, who was primarily a Blazblue and fighting game content creator until he publicly dove into the rabbit hole. I think Koefficient is one of the main reasons this game even has a player base. He is one of if not THE first content creator to bridge fighting games with Vtubers. If anything, this game was made specifically for him, as it's centered around VTubers (most of which are among his personal favorites) and has mechanics that are very similar to Blazblue. The game features a lot of Vtuber references, but you've glanced over how the game also has a lot of fighting game references. The most obvious ones are references to the Marvel Vs. Capcom series. X-potato is a reference to a Wolverine's Weapon X. Botan's Get To Da Choppa is a reference to Jin Saotome's Blodia Vulcan. And lastly, every single character's Cosplay 6 color pallet is a reference to an existing fighting game character.
First time I ever managed to catch a premiere and watch it all the way through, but anyways - Goooood shit, dude. Always love seeing someone talk so passionately about a topic. And goddamn if Pekora is a damn trap character, I can only hear her laughter as she blows up people. Off topic but what are your thoughts on the new MK animations? I know we've only gotten to preview 10 or so mins of actual gameplay, do they look better than previous titles?
We going to get a report on the skullgirls stuff? I can look at this vtuber game, not have it be my thing but still understand what it does for fighting games by promoting single player content. So what does that say for example when people say "Skullgirls was made for me" and then all this erasure happens like a decade down the line?
Attempting to engage with this topic on Twitter has given me nothing but grief, anxiety, and anger. Respectfully, I will not be making a video about it.

@@RaheemDublin I am not a fan of most vtubers in nijisanji ( one of the vtuber companies probably one of the largest in the world ). They tend to have just chat streams and watch along and things like that on their memberships. Main reason I know it is that I have been in the chat when people gifted memberships. How to put it kindly not my cup of tea, atop of that we have residue from idol culture and parasocial all over it. Hololive is better but they have their gachikoi ( superfans basicly ) and parasocial inclings to allthough not as bad. Indies like girl _dm and phase connect and voms when pikamee was in it were goood places to hang though. Some of the holotalents got my highest respect though....dear god what some of them have done. If you ever were into minecraft at some point look up haachama minecraft. Her superstructures are mindblowing.
great video , but you're giving hololive way too much credit, that company is just as f'd up as any other idol company. They don't even stand by or respect their talents, which is obviously why Rushia, Kiryu Coco the goat and so many others left.
I neglected to mention why Coco left in the video because I was afraid of attracting a *certain* crowd, but Coco's graduation was centered entirely on harassment from Chinese nationalists who were upset that Coco said the word 'Taiwan' in a video. It sounds absurd, but this is literally how insane CCP nationalists are. This actually happened early on, and the immediate backlash from this was that Cover Corp cut ALL ties with China, including the closure of the Hololive CN branch (which sucks for the CN talent... except the girls who were also nationalists), to the point where Gen 5's Momosuzu Nene got a new costume to replace her old Chinese-styled costume. Nene even used to speak with an "aru" vocal tick, a small accent that's meant to denote a Chinese accent; when asked why she doesn't say 'aru' anymore, Nene replied "My Japanese got better!". Beyond that, Coco's career at Cover Corp was more than just as a streaming talent. She actually applied to be both a manager AND a streamer, but was told she couldn't do both at once, and she chose to be a streamer instead. I also wasn't kidding when I said Coco paved the way for Hololive EN; this was an initiative she was constantly pushing for behind the scenes, and they actually let it happen. Also, Coco's graduation was of her own choosing, and was given the biggest fanfare and respect she could have gotten from her peers, fellow streamers, and fans. Normally a graduated streamer's channel gets privated and their merch and branding erased entirely, but Cover Corp kept Coco's archives online and kept her merch available for purchase. The same thing happened with Hololive EN Gen 2's Tsukumo Sana, who also elected to graduate due to conflicting career interests and health issues. Sana's channel is still up, and her merch is still available. The outlier in all this is Rushia, who despite being a mainstay of Hololive Gen 3 for many years, was given the most unceremonious of graduations, including the complete erasure of her branding and merch. The reason this became the case is because Rushia was caught violating her contract terms as a talent under Cover Corp, in a way that was purely intentional and 100% her fault. I have less knowledge of this than most because I try to avoid VTuber drama, but Rushia's sudden departure was unignorable, especially since I actually liked Rushia a lot.

I just don't like it. To me it feels like a fake persona for viewers to project that gets played up for more traction.
I haven't personally seen a vtuber that appeals to me because a lot of them don't feel like real people It feels like watching a puppet show and i don't like it at all.
Oh well, it was fun watching your videos. Nothing good lasts forever, I guess...
great video , but you're giving hololive way too much credit, that company is just as f'd up as any other idol company.
Yeah, not my jam.
SugarPunch truly is composed of people of culture.
I hope Mori Calliope gets added to the roster!
