IMPERIUS REX- Episode: 59
I LITERALLY just grabbed Compedium Vol 2 today from a used book store for $15! This is real treat of a story and one that I have on the top of my 'Recommended' shelf. It plays to all the tropes well and eases casual readers into the story beautifully before becoming something... more. Probably the most easily accessible series that I collect so it's always good to have a couple trades handy for others to borrow haha.
It's a masterpiece. Period.

Invincible is my favorite comic ! This book has such a great story and the art is fantastic . Great job guys!

The only comic that made me go back to buy singles at my LCS. Waiting for the future stuff from this universe. I believe the series is not dead. Nothing ever ends in comics:)
Yes but Kirkman did say that if it has an ending it fights the cliche tropes of many comics. But if it did come back Id read it in a heartbeat
i come from the future in the year 2021 to tell you that there is an animated series on amazon prime that has came out. only season 1 so far. it has been approved for 2 more seasons, so we'll see how good it is..that's all i have time to tel you, time machine is loading back up..see ya later..or earlier !!

i went to my local used bookstore last week and bought the first 3 trades of invincible after watching yalls shorter overview video. i went back later the same day and bought the next 6 trades and ordered the rest of the compendiums. thank you so much for getting me back into comics
ik manga isn’t really this channels thing either but good god read One Piece. Long form story telling at its finest. id love to hear a comics person take on manga and there’s no better one than One Piece

Never even heard of it, but I have been experimenting in Manga more recently. Lots of Junji Ito horrors, and Lone Wolf and Cub. Also heard great things about Monster, 20th Century Boys, and Pluto. I'll have to add this to the list.
Great video! Finally finished issue 47 this weekend, so I finally got to watch this episode! I'll be tearing through the next run of issues to get to the next one. I'm in LOVE with this series. I could not put it down. Glad I'm no longer dead to you xD

I freaking love Invincible! Which surprised me cuz Walking Dead is just meh to me. Not bad, but not great - never got the hype.

Great to hear Simian! We both got into Walking Dead early on, waaay before it was the cultural zeitgeist that it is, or was, today. That being said, it could def. wind itself down any time now. I still enjoy reading it once I get a stack of trades piling up, but it's never at the top of my "to-do list." If I could pick one book to end and one book to continue going on indefinitely, I would've switched Walking Dead and Invincible in a heartbeat.

Invincible and the original authority were comics that changed how I look at heroes. At least super powered one's.

Great video! I love Invincible so much. I really wish I could read a whole comic just devoted to Allen the Alien, he is a great character.
Did you guys check out the stand alone Brit comics too? It is a really fun read as well.
Thanks Tyler- haven't read any of the Brit stuff. He seems like such a generic character- and Troy and I both had to keep reminding ourselves he was British and should be speaking like Michael Cain, but his dialogue never seemed to impart that personality. If you say they're worth a read we might have to give it a shot-

Just re-watching because reasons. I think Damien Darkblood was a bit derived from Hellboy in the tv(?) series
He was in the Invincible comic, with some obvious Rorschach inspiration. I suppose there's certainly some Hellboy elements as well that I didn't pick up on. I thought the show leaned more into Etrigan personally.

Gregor Black Id love to read it- everything Kirkman has done has been a blast (Invincible, Walking Dead, Outcast, Oblivion Song, Astounding Wolfman, etc) but I haven’t been able to get my hands on it yet. Maybe sometime in the future- or a quarterly update episode!
Hellyeah- a quarterly pop in of a bunch of new/current stuff is a pretty stellar idea in fact. Really enjoyed the episode fellas. Just got through 5 volumes of Invincible. Reread I should say. And I agree, Kirkman's a blast especially in creator owned material

Jacob- I can say with 100% certainty, that the highlight of the entire 144-issue run of Invincible is NOT the Pitt cameo. I understand you love Pitt, but come on! ;) To be honest, I don't even recall where he made an appearance; what issue was it? Are you sure you didn't dream it?
The Goon definitely will have it's time to shine- as we both ordered the whole set of Library editions... just need to find the perfect time to plow through it.
And as for the song, sadly- it's just for the Invincible special. It's from the band OK GO, and most definitely copyright protected. It was just too perfect to not use for this block of shows...

Imperius Rex Keep in mind I have about the same level of cognitive finess and a waterlogged onion right about now, bur whatever. Keep up the good content guys, when it comes you your guys' stuff, I really like the long format vids.
Goon is great! I love Eric Powell and his slow build in confidence as both a writer and illustrator throughout then series. It's hilarious but also has just enough tongue-in-cheek to keep me entertained.

I think the 3 Compendiums are as close to an Omnibus as the spines and bindings will allow. Probably the best way to collect them at the moment.
Ooooh boy this'll be good. And I looked it up animal husbandry is not nice and illegal. Husbandry is simply dark magic. Still legal though.

I've never read Invincible before but I really want to know. What would you guys recommend the trades or the big ominous's?
For the price- you can't beat the omnibuses (or compendiums, I think they're referred to as). We usually buy our books through www.instocktrades.com/search/invincible%20compendium - and they have all 3 of them for $37.69 each. That's 9 trades-worth of content for the price of 3-4 trades. Can't beat the savings. They're a little harder to read in bed, but worth it to have the whole series for around $100.

I really want to read this, The walking dead never interested me, but this looks damn beautiful, Is there anything that might deter new readers from it? (other than the length), Is there any background reading required? or do you just jump into #0?

Imperius Rex does #0 spoil anything that comes after? I heard that from someone but I don’t know if it’s true.
@@jordanthomas4379 I had to do a quick search on it, as I couldn't recall. Apparently it's a "get new readers-up-to-speed" issue that takes place between issues 22 and 23. So I wouldn't read it until then. Not sure why they label it issue 0.
