Viltrumites, like Saiyans and Frieza all at once. They may not be able to use energy blasts that destroy planets, but somehow using their bare hands is far more terrifying.
I like how ep/vol 1 tricks you into thinking its gonna be one of those wacky teenage comics where the main character is a dorky superhero who has to juggle between saving the world and surviving high school life and getting himself into a bunch of funny and awkward shenanigans And then it hits you in face like a train... kinda like Mark.
Sadly many new to media don't know about deception and deconstructions, while at the same time asking for deconstruction ie constantly claiming everything is done before tropes and predictable then passing over stuff that's not due to my second point Many dont have the attention span to read or watch a show long enough for the big twist if the show seems cliche or seen before. It's fairly obvious a show isnt as cliche as it lets on when tons of people are criticizing it well, but people still come into popular stuff hands folded asking why it's not blowing their minds in the first 5 minutes vs some of their favorites, overlooking that they spent many hours getting into what they claim are their favorites and are nostalgic. I think tons of shows start off simple, Hunter x hunter, to berserk for example, but have a deceptive nature to them that is good when you wait for the pay off. Rule of thumb, most of the time something popular isnt popular cause the audience eats up everything, sometimes its actually good. Other rule of thumb, you may see the tropes and claim something is cliche but the tropes may have originated closer to the show your watching but it just came out way later. Final point, sadly to offset people dropping before the big twist of a show that makes it different, people have to or try oversell the show...trust me it gets good turns into it gets crazy, to it's amazing just watch all the way through. People somehow came out of the train scene in season 1 saying it was boring due to this...like really what would it take to get you a shot of adrenaline lol.

I love how this comic deals with the question of whether killing as a utilitarian solution is okay or not. It’s a base question. That probably doesn’t have a correct answer. Pretty cool. And I love how this channel always has little moments of real life advice. You take a simple scene like between Mark and Amber and go in depth and talk about it in a real way. I love the detours. It’s my opinion that the Viltrumite idea of weeding out the weakest in their society was heavily influenced by the Nazi ideology of the “Master Race.” It’s literally the definition of Eugenics: Breeding certain people together and discarding the rest…I think the humane answer is the obvious one, but then again they aren’t human…so it does make you ponder what’s actually right and wrong.

Kirkman announced that he wants to push it to seven seasons total, considering there were 133 issues or so, its fitting for a span of that long though, in total they only used like 10 or 11 issues in the first season. I think next season will pull more from multiple issues.
I normally feel bad when a race looses their home world, but viltrum honestly disturbed me a little bit, like how can you throw 98 percent of dead bodies of your people into your planets orbit to make ring….and they don’t even decay, yikes.

It doesn't really *have* a temperature, because it's a vacuum, so, assuming the planet has a star, those bodies would most likely be incredibly hot. On the flip side, decay (assuming it's comparable to human biology) is a product of bacteria, which need oxygen (or whatever their atmosphere is). So, yeah, I suspect they've got a ring of super hot mummies up there (...and I don't know if that's an intentional highly disturbing double entendre or not... 😰)

I remember some astronaut talking about the freezing-ass cold when the sun was down, but now that you mention it, later in the interview he used the heat of the sunrise during the same spacewalk to heat up some part he was trying to get to fit together. Rob does a really good job of dropping numerous valuable nuggets of advice in this whole full story video. I’m super grateful for that in all honesty. Everyone complains about politics in comics book even though comics are inherently political which I know rob has addressed but I love how rob is able to do something similar sharing his personal life experiences when he reads these stories to us. Rob is so good at translation what is going on in the comic and then relating it to real while not taking away from the narrative

Hey Rob, just wanted to come back to this video and tell you thank you. I watched the first hour a few weeks back and thought "you know what? I really want to read this entire run myself." I love your narration and everything, but obviously reading the comics yourself is an entirely different experience. So that day I ordered all three compendiums with every comic. Just finished them about ten minutes ago and, just, wow. What an incredible story from front to back. I'm so glad I stopped watching this an hour in so I wasn't spoiled. That was actually only my second time ever reading an entire comic run (the first, funnily enough, was The Walking Dead) and I did it all in just a couple days because I just could not put it down. What a great story. I had already watched the show before watching this video, but you convinced me to buy the books and read them all. So, if any comic writer or someone like that says guys like you are bad for the industry, just add me to the list of the, I'm sure thousands, of people you've convinced to buy comics.

I like how they brought the new suit in right when mark started to change alittle. He was never big on the idea of murder but he actually started to say he would kill someone not only that it’s different to just say you’ll do it rather then to straight up tell that person you will kill them

One of my favourite parts of the comics was the attentions to small details the first of which we see is when mark throws the garbage bag when he gets his powers and a few chapters later it lands on a pathway nearly hitting a man walking his dog and there’s so many more sprinkled all the way throughout the comic and I love it

I’m glad you explained the part about whether or not the immortal is close to being evenly matched with nolan because I was honestly confused by that. I was really thought for a second maybe he was issue for him.
5:21:17 I gotta be honest, "things will never be the same as they were because I will never lie to you again." has to be one of the best lines i've seen in comic books when it comes to forgiveness and trying to make things right
The whole "good guys are narcissistic for not killing the bad guys" and the whole "human lives aren't important" crap are actually very unrealistic because if it were in real life, superpowered villains would be executed simply because of the threat that they posed to innocents. These writers just invent the whole "they get locked up only to break out and kill again" trope for the sake of storytelling and nothing more. Oliver doesn't value human life because he's never experienced being at the mercy of the strong in his life, he's bullet proof so he's never been at the firing end of a gun, bottom line: He's never been weak and that is a dangerous way of thinking especially for someone with powers because it opens the path to the one thing that is worse than a "narcissistic superhero" which is a tyrant who kills everyone he believes to be guilty.
Damn,Smart guy. Great analysis on Oliver. I like his character a lot but his lackadaisical ideology on human life and its value scares me a bit, he wasn't born on earth and ages way faster than humans so may be part of it. It's a good thing mark is around
A weak person that has been at the mercy of the strong for his entire life and then acquires the power necessary to fight back has about a 75% chance of being unable to do so because of his conditioning though. If he successfully breaks that at a later date, or happens to end up in the 25% that does not, he still has about a 50% chance of concluding that any bully he sees should be humiliated and (in the case of metahumans) then killed. So it's not exactly as if this is an uncommon stance to take. It's not the morally correct one, but damn if it wouldn't be satisfying as long as you can avoid thinking of the consequences.
I think the worst case of this trope is Batman and Joker! He would’ve been executed after a couple of incidents or put somewhere he couldn’t escape every week, then you have Batsy I won’t kill this one insane mass murderer to save thousands
This is a great series :3 It's honestly rly well written and very brutal and emotional. IDK why but me personally I can't get over that moment when he calls Debbi "more or less a pet". That was worse than him slaughtering innocent people with their fight in the city .... just so cruel, honest, but so unnecessary and soul crushing. The reaction Marc had and the rage he tried to unleash on Omni Man was similar to the initial domination of Zod by Superman in the Man of Steel - immediately after Zod had threatened her life trying to interrogate her as to the location of teh codex. Had those "YOU THINK YOU CAN THREATEN MY MOTHER!!!" vibes. Boys, particularly in a situation like this, really impress me as a girl. We don't really have that berserker rage mechanism - well we do, but it's not honed by instincts to enter mortal combat - it more just overwhelms us. I'd slap him if my dad said that about my mother, but a lot of boys would absolutely try and many succeed in beating his ass. Unfortunetly for Marc, he is a very powerful superhero - but Omni man the other viltrumites are so many leagues ahead of him from centuries of being alive. This is a good thing tho IMO as a means of setting up a proper superhero story; and this comic should be properly studied for anyone trying to adapt a Superman class superhero. You HAVE to make that power gain gradual and present an enemy or series of enemies the way this series does in that our protag not only struggles to defeat them, but can barely hang with a lot of them in the first few parts of teh series.
Just a small pet peeve, it’s a huge spoiler for the non comic-book readers when you mention Eve’s future strength at around 1:40:00 in the video , removes the suspense of whether she’d stay safe or not

Sadly many new to media don't know about deception and deconstructions, while at the same time asking for deconstruction ie constantly claiming everything is done before tropes and predictable then passing over stuff that's not due to my second point
Many dont have the attention span to read or watch a show long enough for the big twist if the show seems cliche or seen before. It's fairly obvious a show isnt as cliche as it lets on when tons of people are criticizing it well, but people still come into popular stuff hands folded asking why it's not blowing their minds in the first 5 minutes vs some of their favorites, overlooking that they spent many hours getting into what they claim are their favorites and are nostalgic.
I think tons of shows start off simple, Hunter x hunter, to berserk for example, but have a deceptive nature to them that is good when you wait for the pay off. Rule of thumb, most of the time something popular isnt popular cause the audience eats up everything, sometimes its actually good. Other rule of thumb, you may see the tropes and claim something is cliche but the tropes may have originated closer to the show your watching but it just came out way later.
Final point, sadly to offset people dropping before the big twist of a show that makes it different, people have to or try oversell the show...trust me it gets good turns into it gets crazy, to it's amazing just watch all the way through. People somehow came out of the train scene in season 1 saying it was boring due to this...like really what would it take to get you a shot of adrenaline lol.

I love how this comic deals with the question of whether killing as a utilitarian solution is okay or not. It’s a base question. That probably doesn’t have a correct answer. Pretty cool. And I love how this channel always has little moments of real life advice. You take a simple scene like between Mark and Amber and go in depth and talk about it in a real way. I love the detours. Great video.
It’s my opinion that the Viltrumite idea of weeding out the weakest in their society was heavily influenced by the Nazi ideology of the “Master Race.” It’s literally the definition of Eugenics: Breeding certain people together and discarding the rest…I think the humane answer is the obvious one, but then again they aren’t human…so it does make you ponder what’s actually right and wrong.

Kirkman announced that he wants to push it to seven seasons total, considering there were 133 issues or so, its fitting for a span of that long though, in total they only used like 10 or 11 issues in the first season. I think next season will pull more from multiple issues.

It doesn't really *have* a temperature, because it's a vacuum, so, assuming the planet has a star, those bodies would most likely be incredibly hot. On the flip side, decay (assuming it's comparable to human biology) is a product of bacteria, which need oxygen (or whatever their atmosphere is). So, yeah, I suspect they've got a ring of super hot mummies up there (...and I don't know if that's an intentional highly disturbing double entendre or not... 😰)

Hey Rob, just wanted to come back to this video and tell you thank you. I watched the first hour a few weeks back and thought "you know what? I really want to read this entire run myself." I love your narration and everything, but obviously reading the comics yourself is an entirely different experience. So that day I ordered all three compendiums with every comic. Just finished them about ten minutes ago and, just, wow. What an incredible story from front to back. I'm so glad I stopped watching this an hour in so I wasn't spoiled. That was actually only my second time ever reading an entire comic run (the first, funnily enough, was The Walking Dead) and I did it all in just a couple days because I just could not put it down. What a great story. I had already watched the show before watching this video, but you convinced me to buy the books and read them all. So, if any comic writer or someone like that says guys like you are bad for the industry, just add me to the list of the, I'm sure thousands, of people you've convinced to buy comics.

I originally was going to stop where it caught up with the show, because I've never read the comics and didn't really want to spoil anything... two days later I just reached the end of the video. It's just too engaging of a story. I LOVES IT! Of course I'll still watch Season 2 and however many others come out. But I'm glad I watched this through. Excellent! 😻😁👍

i'd imagine, is much like dragons in dnd, their physical abilities and mental abilities don't start to decline until like maybe the final decade or so of their life, if i had to guess what keeps the viltrimites from having immortality in the same way as the immortal

One of my favourite parts of the comics was the attentions to small details the first of which we see is when mark throws the garbage bag when he gets his powers and a few chapters later it lands on a pathway nearly hitting a man walking his dog and there’s so many more sprinkled all the way throughout the comic and I love it

5:21:17 I gotta be honest, "things will never be the same as they were because I will never lie to you again." has to be one of the best lines i've seen in comic books when it comes to forgiveness and trying to make things right
The whole "good guys are narcissistic for not killing the bad guys" and the whole "human lives aren't important" crap are actually very unrealistic because if it were in real life, superpowered villains would be executed simply because of the threat that they posed to innocents. These writers just invent the whole "they get locked up only to break out and kill again" trope for the sake of storytelling and nothing more.
Oliver doesn't value human life because he's never experienced being at the mercy of the strong in his life, he's bullet proof so he's never been at the firing end of a gun, bottom line: He's never been weak and that is a dangerous way of thinking especially for someone with powers because it opens the path to the one thing that is worse than a "narcissistic superhero" which is a tyrant who kills everyone he believes to be guilty.
Damn,Smart guy. Great analysis on Oliver. I like his character a lot but his lackadaisical ideology on human life and its value scares me a bit, he wasn't born on earth and ages way faster than humans so may be part of it. It's a good thing mark is around
A weak person that has been at the mercy of the strong for his entire life and then acquires the power necessary to fight back has about a 75% chance of being unable to do so because of his conditioning though. If he successfully breaks that at a later date, or happens to end up in the 25% that does not, he still has about a 50% chance of concluding that any bully he sees should be humiliated and (in the case of metahumans) then killed.
So it's not exactly as if this is an uncommon stance to take. It's not the morally correct one, but damn if it wouldn't be satisfying as long as you can avoid thinking of the consequences.

This is a great series :3 It's honestly rly well written and very brutal and emotional. IDK why but me personally I can't get over that moment when he calls Debbi "more or less a pet". That was worse than him slaughtering innocent people with their fight in the city .... just so cruel, honest, but so unnecessary and soul crushing. The reaction Marc had and the rage he tried to unleash on Omni Man was similar to the initial domination of Zod by Superman in the Man of Steel - immediately after Zod had threatened her life trying to interrogate her as to the location of teh codex. Had those "YOU THINK YOU CAN THREATEN MY MOTHER!!!" vibes. Boys, particularly in a situation like this, really impress me as a girl. We don't really have that berserker rage mechanism - well we do, but it's not honed by instincts to enter mortal combat - it more just overwhelms us. I'd slap him if my dad said that about my mother, but a lot of boys would absolutely try and many succeed in beating his ass.
Unfortunetly for Marc, he is a very powerful superhero - but Omni man the other viltrumites are so many leagues ahead of him from centuries of being alive. This is a good thing tho IMO as a means of setting up a proper superhero story; and this comic should be properly studied for anyone trying to adapt a Superman class superhero. You HAVE to make that power gain gradual and present an enemy or series of enemies the way this series does in that our protag not only struggles to defeat them, but can barely hang with a lot of them in the first few parts of teh series.
Just a small pet peeve, it’s a huge spoiler for the non comic-book readers when you mention Eve’s future strength at around 1:40:00 in the video , removes the suspense of whether she’d stay safe or not
