    It all comes down to what are you looking for in your life: the good or the bad. Either way, you will find it.

    Reminds me of my life :p I used to be lazy and I wasn't getting myself anywhere. But I read the book 'The Game' and from that, I learned that anyone can become better at anything, just by trying and not giving up. The book showed me that you have to challenge yourself to get yourself somewhere. Now, I'm doing a university masters, working one day per week as a chatbot specialist, setting up a student restaurant and trying to run my own RUclips-channel. :)
    Keep on challenging yourself guys!

    You said it wrong!
    It was a locked shocked dog, and a LOCKED no shock dog.
    And afterwards they both get no lock, because they were in fact, both locked.
    You said it completely wrong, and that paints a completely different, financial priveledge picture vs a controlled opposition picture!
    You MUST CORRECT THIS at the beginning of the video w/ the dog allegory!
    BOTH DOGS WERE LOCKED!

  • @Sironil
    @Sironil 6 лет назад +1

    It's more accurate to say that the experiment with the dog is about learned helplessness. This makes the video confusing because the dog learned correctly that attempting to escape the cage will result in pain. The dog has no clue that the second cage could be different. The dog lacks the knowledge the experimenter has...

    If you choose to take credit for the good things in life, I believe you must take responsibility for the bad things as well. Constantly ignoring the patterns of bad things by putting them off as not "your fault" is the fastest way to invite more tragedy into your life.
    I do agree on the points of taking action and feeling inspired towards something bigger then yourself. I just encourage you to be prepared for the bad as it WILL come, and you CAN avoid it, ONLY through taking responsibility. (lots of things are out of our control in life, suffering is inevitable I'm not saying you must take responsibility for everything. Just as much as you can.)

    Sad thing is we encourage the pessimistic thought process. We blame everyone for every little problem that occurs in their life and say if they don't take responsibility then nothing will ever change. Maybe that's why depression has been on the rise that and the way are legal and justice system has been working. At least in the US. I've been working with addicts and people who have rehabilitated people who have been homeless people who have and haven't had to deal with the legal system. People who are innocent and guilty but yet both end up extremely self-destructive and suicidal because how prolonged the punishment is before a trial even begins.

    How dare you overgeneralization and put a judgmental and condescending shadow on those struggling. You have no idea what a person may have gone through and your tone is highly snobbish. You really need to check yourself. It's not always as simple and doable to just apply some tired old cliche "Don't give up." I'd wonder if you feel the same way if you ever had to endure half of what the underprivileged have had to endure.

    not at all- if you are persistant and stick with an approach that isnt working and keep being optimistic instead of realizing its not working and giving up to go on and try a different approach or abandoning that goal as not workable you KEEP from wasting years of your life !!! a very simple minded approach at best..

    If the dog been shocked be showed from another it will not get shocked, then it will escape.
    If a person is given tools to more positive, then they may be more.
    We are what our environment is as a child, until that child is given tools to change.
    Raising environment will syay with until we decide to accept positive tools from others.
    Change takes time.
    This video is making negative people sound bad for their up bringing.
    It's not a good example.
    I accept people whom don't want to change. It's their path.

      It's funny I felt the same way watching this video. I am a recovering pessimist and anything that is too optimistic immediately makes me feel suspicious. I am so mistrustful of hope that it feels illogical and stupid to believe for really good things.

  • @SpaceDoug404
    @SpaceDoug404 5 лет назад

    Unconstrained optimism is stupid and toxic. Might be why you have such a personal problem with pessimists. I would argue learned helplessness absolutely does not equal natural pessimism.

  • @m_sedziwoj
    @m_sedziwoj 6 лет назад

    This dog is realism not pessimism. If first dog try and try again, it not change when he was in first cage, and he don't have reason to think 2nd is different. But people too often think they are in same cage, but they are not. This is problem, most people think one try is enough, but not realized that is different case so they don't even try it.

    Well well well, there's a third attitude about a flat tire. The combative and life-experience one (it's my creation). In front of this kind of problem, you start to think and understand how you can manage this problem and how you can use it to gain autonomy, resilience, power, skills. I would in this example use it to gain skills in mechanic and problem prevention (get another wheel in your truck, get tire repair vulcanizer, get to a mechanic as friend, etc), know how to improvise in the middle of the road and call a tow truck, assert myself in front of my boss who will ask me for reasons i'm late, etc. SO basically find all the positive i can get from this situation. If you do this with all your problems, you'll become much more resistant, autonomous and able to find solutions, even laugh at problems and eventually ignore them if you want/can. Some of the most combative will eventually go voluntarily for problems to get adrenaline and solve them.

  • @mightywhite360
    @mightywhite360 6 лет назад

    it takes about 20 minutes to change a flat by hand. If you need a tow truck or think a flat ruins your life, you should learn how to easily change a flat. If you don't keep a spare or a donut in your car, you probably need to do that. You don't need anybody to come change it for you. a little kid can change a tire.

    I could add to this...never think about the probability of random things occurring. That alone is the biggest roadblock to my optimism.
    If I got a flat tire, I would immediately think "Why me?! Theres a 1/15,000 chance of this happening, AND it happened right on the way to work, which makes it even more rare, AND it was raining today!" Pretty soon I have convinced myself that I am the most unlucky person in the world and that cosmic forces are out to ruin my life. And when you feel like the world is actively trying to make your life worse, it makes you want to avoid the world entirely.

    I don't even know where to start... Both the optimism and pessimism described in this video are toxic and dangerous. Ironically the optimism more so. Not taking responsibility for the effects of your actions. Imagine this attitude for a surgeon, safety inspector, politician...
    Optimism isn't the answer to everything. The pessimism described is more healthy and analytical. The only difference should be the expectation of being able to handle the problem. If you have temper issues it is very wise to prepare for a disgruntled supervisor. But you just need to think of what to say in advance. The world isn't a happy and fair place. So why should you expect everything will go that way?

      When you achieve something, that state isn't optimism, optimism is before the achievement. Just like pessimism is before failure. Achieved in that moment would have three different reactions, self congratulatory, humble or self deprecating. Humble is a good middle ground between the two since luck plays some part in your achievements.
      I agree with O.S Bandit. Humble ≠ pessimism.
