Tasty as always. This works well with flour or corn tortillas instead of the lasagna noodles. Love the layering and, of course, the cheese and sauce. The corners are the best!
This recipe would lend itself to a vegetarian chilli (maybe even with a tweak here and there, it could be vegan - eg use tortilla wraps instead of lasagna sheets) Whatever way you wish to go, this is a fantastic dish and fun to put together. I LOVE THIS RECIPE! Thank you, Rik!

I recently had an epiphany and used a glass loaf pan to make and bake a lasagne because my 8x8 wasn’t deep enough and since its just me and the husband it was perfect portion wise too. 👍🏼❤️
Hi Rik, I made this dish last night for dinner! I used some Jarlsberg cheese I had to finish up with the mozzarella, cheddar and Parmesan. I also used a 13X9 inch glass dish to bake it in a conventional oven. It was yummy, cheesy and delicious! It did take me a while to make but was well worth it. This recipe is a keeper for sure. Thanks! 😀

Looks delicious! I make something quite similar but with corn tortillas! When I make chili, I actually use coffee in place of the water. The flavor is amazing! I learnt that tip from an old Mexican friend of mine!

Sometimes a coffee pot full of coffee was the only available cooking liquid available, so they used coffee instead of water. It's delicious!

Very welcome inspiration for my thawed ground beef, very ripe tomatoes and fresh vegetable clear out the fridge and pantry project. Recently I bought a large jar of smoked paprika at a restaurant supply warehouse store thus I can indulge a generous amount to bring all the random vegetable flavours together. Hum, also a random selection of pasta shapes and quantities await a creative cooking project. Albeit this dish will never be the same twice in my kitchen.
I finally made this last night and it was superb! Served it to a family member from Colorado and Arizona and it passed the test with an enthusiastic “that was really good” and “yum!” It was great I must say. I had dark red jalapeños that were lip numbing so I chickened out and used just one but your recipes are so flexible that it was fine. Thank you Mr. Rik for another great meal. ❤️
Lovely creation Rik,looks delightful,and similar to the one Mexican cooks in the NYC restaurants make,main difference is they layer with corn tortillas,not pasta,the sauce would be about the same,maybe pinto beans.I have a tip for you,which you can try,or not,Mexicans when making most of their sauces,take a bunch of cilantro,with the stalks,tie with string,and throw into the sauce,then just cook it in there for a while,when the sauce is finished,they take out,and dispose of it,you can then add a bit of fresh cilantro if you want,they don’t.I think Central America does the same,as I can smell it from my neighbors,and that is where she is from, it has a smell all its own when cooked that way.I am in agreement with you on cooking bechamel sauce,never understood the putting of little bits of milk in at a time.I should add the cilantro trick to me makes the sauces taste Mexican,other wise they taste TexMex.😊

Rik, is it safe to leave the tomato purée in the tin once it’s been opened. I usually transfer the remainder to a glass container, but I’m also quite happy not to use new dishes if I can use the original one.
I use it daily if not every couple of days - it doesn't last. I cover mine with cling wrap and stick it in the fridge - If I was keeping it for a while - I would transfer. Thank you. Best, Rik

This I have to adapt and try sometime. I had a calorie controlled one the other day for its low fat and salt content, god help me, dire is not the word to describe it, so I need the faith restoring a little :).
You don't need no-cook pasta. Use regular lasagna noodles and either use a wetter sauce or add a little water around the edges before you bake it. You'll need to make sure the layers are inside the pan so they hydrate (No Rik Mountain style). I've been using dry regular lasagna noodles for 35 years-it works. Tip- If you want, you can pour boiling water over the noodles and let them soak a bit if you like. This helps if you need to cut them to fit to get nice straight edges rather than have them break all willy-nilly. But given it's a layered dish breaking is fine, too! Hope this helps.
Black beans are Cuban. Mexicans eat pinto beans or mayacobas (canary) beans for the most part. Black beans are available in Puerto Rico, but most of the natives think of black beans as tourist food. Otherwise, I think that this is great recipe which, I plan to cook using mayacoba beans. Thanks for your hard work.

So its basically a chilli mac n cheese with a little Bechamel with different shaped pasta? (which im a fan of by the way) So if i just made the chilli mac n cheese, banged a bit of bechamel on top before the cheese, it'll basically taste the same? Can't be arsed buying different shapes of pasta lol.
In Cincinnati, they eact Chili with Spaghetti. Never had nor made a lasagna using chili as the sauce. However, this would be easier using Ziti. Not a fan of bechamel on lasagna, only using it when making pastizio.
I'm not trolling you...just for trivia. I'm just as English as you, 4th generation removed, but in the US those are pronounced "hala-PAIN'-yo'. Just thought you'd find it interesting. It's not like some French words with 15 letters in them pronounced "Le" LOL. I always buy Mexican oregano as it is stronger, it might be hard to find for you folks overseas, get some if you can, and try it. It works in all applications no matter the food. This reminds me of tamale pie without the cornmeal. This looks fantastic, I'm going to try it, thanks Rik.

Black beans are Cuban. Mexicans eat pinto beans or mayacobas (canary) beans for the most part. Black beans are available in Puerto Rico, but most of the natives think of black beans as tourist food. Otherwise, I think that this is great recipe which, I plan to cook using mayacoba beans. Thanks for your hard work.

Try using chorizo and sub corn chips crisped in lardfr the pasta. I like heat so I use habeneros instead of jalapenos🥵

So its basically a chilli mac n cheese with a little Bechamel with different shaped pasta? (which im a fan of by the way) So if i just made the chilli mac n cheese, banged a bit of bechamel on top before the cheese, it'll basically taste the same? In Cincinnati, they eact Chili with Spaghetti. Never had nor made a lasagna using chili as the sauce. However, this would be easier using Ziti. Not a fan of bechamel on lasagna, only using it when making pastizio.

I'm not trolling you...just for trivia. I'm just as English as you, 4th generation removed, but in the US those are pronounced "hala-PAIN'-yo'. Just thought you'd find it interesting. It's not like some French words with 15 letters in them pronounced "Le" LOL. I always buy Mexican oregano as it is stronger, it might be hard to find for you folks overseas, get some if you can, and try it. It works in all applications no matter the food. This reminds me of tamale pie without the cornmeal. This looks fantastic, I'm going to try it, thanks Rik.
