I'm a former heroin addict myself and can relate to your story a lot. Besides being a nurse. You got a new follower brother. You got a lot of guts to put yourself out on RUclips like this! Keep it up! I have about 4 years clean myself and don't count my sober days or go to AA/NA meetings. It works for me. Very dedicated to sobriety and always put it first in my life!!!

All or nothing thinking is a real catalyst for addiction. I hope you realize that and cut yourself some slack on the food thing. You are not a failure!!!

A little treat every now and again is not such a bad thing. And resuming your regular healthy habits is fantastic. Good for you to not beat yourself up about it.

Not to belittle your commitment to yourself and to your word, which I think is wonderful, but I was so scared that you had “used!” When I heard it was food, my shoulders released all of their tension. Again, not to minimize your dedication to your word, but sometimes those of us in recovery try to take on too much and it ultimately sabotages us. ❤❤❤

Going down the road of despair and self destruction will put you right back in the direction of saying, “Fuck it, I may as well just use and not feel the despair.”

It was the 4th of July, isn’t normal to indulge during holidays and in gatherings?! Your realistic mentality is all about balance ⚖️ I appreciate your perspective 🙏🏻 it’s not about giving ourselves permission, but about giving ourselves compassion, followed by reengaging with discipline👍

Out of all the promises ever made you broke a very small one and as you say, your human and we make mistakes .
Let’s look at it this way you’ve had let’s say 500 good days , ten mins of a bad day is simply a blip , don’t beat yourself up. Take your time and look back in a few weeks and then you will realise well yes I slipped up but actually look how I straight away fixed my mistake and went back to good very quickly which is a win .
    You’re doing great . 💪

There's an old saying...Aiming for perfection only sets yourself up for disappointment...nothing and nobody is perfect! That's why people with OCD can NEVER relax, they can never get to that perfect spot with whatever their OCD is about. Putting tons of stress on yourself to never break a promise to yourself could just trigger you into a relapse, so what good does it do? Don't let perfect be the enemyy of good! My brother is a wicked health fanatic and he follows the 80/20 rule, eat great 80% of the time and eat what you want 20% of the time. When on vacation eat what you want the whole time and get back to 80/20 when you get off of vacation. Just make your commitment for 92 days and you will still be at 90 days in the end!

He is NOT beating himself up. He is playing the same victim he always plays as an addict. The fact that he cannot recognize it is a real problem. All I see is a manipulative addict doing what has always worked for him as an addict.

You seriously have a good head on your shoulders. You have distilled lessons and fundamental ethos from your experiences.
One thing i told myself 3 years ago, is to never lie.
I dont. I only lie to the government lol.
It is better to tell someone straight up, "I wont promise you that" than to suffer the shame of breaking a promise. At least in my opinion.

It seems like a lot of us have slipped up with something lately. I didn't want to make that "I am back, guys." video explaining another relapse. I went back to detox and came out different this time. I stopped counting days and forgot a lot of sobriety dates. I can say, God willing that I maintain the course. I picked up my white chip and wrote 6-23-24 on the back. For some reason it means a whole lot more this time. I started my channel to help others and keep myself in check. The worst part is having to face your subscribers after a relapse. You have a really good channel.

Omg, you have keyed on exactly why dieters gain their weight back! Long term success is found in seeking the lesson and moving forward. Oprah once wrote an excellent essay on keeping promises to yourself, keying on exactly what you have discovered (the self-esteem connection). And you just wrote an excellent essay on what to do after a broken promise.

The best way to detox opiates. Is start detoxing heavy metals parasites intestinal plaque and liver cleansing while you are tapering down the opiate use. Because of years of constipation the amount of toxin in your system is bad . I was treading water on suboxone when i started using products like, mms ,methylane blue , psyllium and several parasite prodocols. I was actually fixings alot of other problems when i started detoxing heavy metals. i had frequent urinaton at night that went away amoung other things . My mentally completely change changed and it was easy to taper. When i jumped off 1/8 of suboxone the only issue i had was only sleeping a few hours a night but after 2 weeks that went away. I believe detoxing everything out is the key to getting over addiction and mental health issues.

Very insightful buddy. Too often we let our own guilt way us down and keep us from moving forward and the fact that you fell is not a reason to stay down on the ground right? You gotta get back up and keep going, not just tuck and roll back down that hill

Hi Brian, glad that you splurged and had some unhealthy food over the 4th of July Weekend. As you said, as long as you just cheat for a short amount of time and then resume your Healthy Diet, no harm is done.
I think the old saying of "You have to eat what is put before you with Thanksgiving" says it all. It would have made your friend feel bad if you didn't break the rules and have some.
You can blame it all on the Holiday festivities.

Do yourself a favor and find a copy of the four agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Don't give the judge inside of you the satisfaction of making you a victim. Don't fall for the trap. Just re-commit and move on. You're on the warrior's path.

Brian, you have a great perspective on the issue. Isn't it why AA has the expression "one day at a time"? A friend claims to be vegan but eats "bad food" over some of the holidays. She still considers herself vegan. Weight Watchers has cheat days. A hot dog and ice cream on July 4th can be your rewards for being clean the rest of the year. You're doing great.

    • @hannahmitchell87
      @hannahmitchell87 2 месяца назад

Please can I clear something up? If your friend's "bad foods" are animal products, she's not vegan, she follows a predominantly plant based diet. If they're just unhealthy plant based foods, then she's right to still call herself a vegan. Veganism is about animal rights, not health or clean eating etc. (& I agree with your & Brian's perspectives on not being so rigid about diet :)

Think of it this way...If an obese person needed to lose 100 lbs. If they lost 70 lbs, then ate a cupcake, did they lose all their progress and gain the 70 lbs back? Of course not. They could continue eating junk and gain back the 70 lbs back, but just a slip of a cupcake, they still have all their progress and 70 lbs off when they get back on track.

As a Registered Nurse i have become to have high respect for you.Your postings i have learned so much. I have reached out saying in comments i would like to talk to you. Im a straight male. Your intelligent and educated. Use your education you have and go back to college You can help others. By education and becoming a councilor. Honestly i would hire you in a heartbeat. Could you get your licenses back on down the road.or would drugs be to tempting for you. Anyhow i have faith you will succeed. Its 1 day at a time. I would like you to let us know if you have plan's. I realize you have alot on you. As always i wish you the best. Im greatful that i found your youtube channel.
