Peavey Invective vs Engl Fireball 25 - Gain Channels

  • My 2 cents is at the end, but to nutshell it, the Engl has a higher quality feel and sound to it IMO. Not to take anything away from the Peavey cause it's a great BEAST of an amp and a bit cheaper to boot. The Fireball paired up with the matching though is a dream come true - it's just perfect!

    Thanks for that video , i was actually looking for that comparison . I´m looking for a new amp after i got my new guitar and the choice was between the Peavy and the Engl . Looks like the ENGL won by miles , lot thicker sound , just way more chug . I think the Peavey is a great Amp as well , but at the end of the day the type of music you want to play is important . I´m a mofo who loves death metal , so the Engl is the way to go for me . You got a new sub , greetings from germany \m/ .

But i´m really looking forward to the day i´m holding the Fireball 25 in my hands . I´m totally hooked :-D . Only thing which bugs is the expensive cab O.o and its weight , i want to use a 212 V30 cab with this amp but geez the ENGL cab clocks in at €600 and weights a ton with 35kg/ 70 pounds . I discovered a nice Harley Benton Cab also V30 speakers . closed cab but costs even under €300 , just not sure about the sound ....well first world problems hahaha

      Well did you buy any? Have you decided what it is you “think” you want? Nice to have so many options, a guy can really get specific with tones, features and options... funny thing is, they all do pretty much the same thing, and many for a whole lot less ;-) it’s the music that matters. Dont know why you dont have more subscribers.... (Been following you for years now). Good job on comparison, Engl sounds more modern and if this was a blind test I would choose Engl. But in the end.it would probably be Peavey as it is more forgiving on playing😀

    Nice vid! I've got both these amps too. I agree with most of the things you say. But I do think the ENGL is quite a bit louder, even on the 1w setting. So if great tone at lower volume is important to you (the reader) than definitely go for the Invective! It can get a lot more quiet and still keep a great tone.

  • @nelsonmendoza8751
    @nelsonmendoza8751 Год назад +1

    The Invective does sound mushy when you turn up the gain dial, true. But just use the build in boost, it tightens it up and sounds great when engaged. Amazing tight brutal tone imo!

    • @oldguyjammin9732
      @oldguyjammin9732  Год назад +1

      I'll have to disagree on the Engl attenuation but I will say how much I miss the Invective. I could hit the tight switch, set up a killer crunchy rhythm tone and then switch the tight off for a searing lead. It was more aggressive than the Fireball imo. Your email has me looking for used Peaveys, lol

      @@oldguyjammin9732 Well they are both great amps and my two cents are very subjective offcourse, I realise that. But I agree! The Invective does sound very aggressive and I love it for it. • @nelsonmendoza8751
      @nelsonmendoza8751 9 месяцев назад

      Even better with an external boost! I'm using the MXR M77, it gives the amp a lot of extra balls, lows and low mids (because of the 'bump' switch). I always thought the amp was lacking in the lows a bit before. Probably because of the EL84 tubes and the in build boost shelving of a lot of low end. Since the in build boost is more catered to drop tunings en djenty stuff. But I like to play standard and drop D, for that the M77 is a godsend. Dream Amp now 🙌

    Great review. One of the better commentaries on the contrasts between the two amps.
    12:10 - lol. I don’t get this at all from some people and agree with your take. The Fireball has insane levels of gain. Quite possibly ENGL’s most gain intensive amp or at least tied with their most gain intensive ones. The only difference here is that it tightens up as it’s dialled up, which makes it usable even at maximum levels while the Invective could probably use the tight switch at higher settings. It’s all quite meaningless though: both amps have more than enough gain with different voicing.

    • @oldguyjammin9732
      @oldguyjammin9732  2 года назад +1

      I’d say you nailed it, the ENGLs have plenty of gain just voiced differently. In order of dry aggressive and brittle to thick and saturated I’d put it this way Mesa V, Ironball, Invective, Fireball with the Invective and Fireball being my favorites. Thanks for cruising by!

The Invective is more ‘brittle’ than the Fball as is the Engl Ironball and Mark 5:25. The Fireball is thick and warm and tight without being brittle or sharp. My Mesa amps all cause ‘ear fatigue’ that is to say, they sound great for a bit but then just start to hurt. I also have a hard time getting Mesas bright enough and always of the treble and presence dimed... something the manual says not to do, lol.
