HUGELY IMPORTANT STEP!!! You must be signed into Chrome using the account for which the meeting was scheduled. Many of us have personal and work accounts and I had to do some troubleshooting to figure this out (and I'm an IT guy). Thanks so much for the clear tutorial that got me 90% of the way there!!!!
This is brilliant. Had been looking bloody everywhere for this knowledge. One thing: when you first set up Cast, I did not see "enable cloud services" - I had to go to Chrome settings (again clicking three dots at top right), searched "Sync" and applied "Turn on Sync". I'm posting this comment, because I saw a few others asking the same question. Observation from doing a little test - the audio seems to cast beautifully in time, the video (visual) was delayed and froze quite a lot. Took about ten seconds initially for the video to start showing on the other device I'd joined from, so advice to others here would be to hit "cast" before hitting play on the video. Thanks for a brilliantly explained video.
I am a preschool special education teacher so keeping the interest of my students while teaching online is a CHALLENGE. I sprinkle videos with songs throughout my lesson to keep them engaged. The video sound works erratically which is not so helpful in gaining attention. I cannot wait to use this technique today! I already followed all of your steps and have been successful on my end. I just need to have a parent on the other end confirm that they can hear the sound. THANK YOU!!

@@drRomanIDrozd I followed these steps and it worked perfectly! Two issues I saw: first, if your google meet is setup for a start and end time, you MUST cast while your in that time period. Our meetings run past the posted end time and if I try to cast, it can't find any meetings. Second, I read peoples replies that say if there is a large number of people in the group, Windows or google automatically mutes any newcomers. I haven't had that problem yet but maybe it is an issue for you.

Those steps are no longer required. But you still need things to be done on a Chrome tab. When you are in Google Meet, hit the "Present now" button in the middle of the bottom of your screen, choose the "share chrome tab" and check the "share tab audio" box and choose the tab you wanna present!

Chrome now tells you that this workaround is won't be supported much longer. You can present a Tab within Google Meet. Go down to the Present Now option on the toolbar at the bottom of the Meet window and select > Present Now > A tab, and then choose one of your currently opened tabs.
I made a follow up video on this literally the day after this one was released. Had no idea they got rid of the original workaround all together though. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sethi, great video. I am already using this workaround but it breaks down when there are 4 to 5 people plus on the platform. When this happens it casts in mute and there is no way to fix it. Google meet needs to include this functionality for teachers and I have already sent them feedback for them to include this feature, as well as breakout rooms. I encourage you and everyone else to do the same! Or I will have to go to their competitors!

You don't explain (excluding "don't worry about lag, video and audio quality") how to share stereo signal of audio on Google Meet platform? Your explanation is useful only in simple scenario: me, notebook (with built-in camera and built-in mic) and participants. I need much more - using Loopback 2 I try send to my students many sources of sound from my Interface audio (including audio track with professional mic). Problem is why my students don't hear stereo audio? Quality of sound is generally acceptable (I use professional equipment), but why only mono?
You need to click on your profile, on the top right of your browser then enable syncing, that will make the cloud option show up on cast icon when you right-click on it.
@@fernandolordao2 try seeing if you have different chrome profiles. You have to use the same profile (email) as in your calendar. Same thing happened to me, and when I switched to my chrome work profile (which I don't have it by default) then it synced with the calendar invite I had opened to test it.
Thank you for this video. It's very helpful. One question: When you said that I need to schedule a meeting in my calendar, you said that it needs to be in the past. But I believe that the date you set was April 17th and the time was 1:30 if I remember correctly. That appears to be the future (unless you live in a different time zone than Pacific). Also you mentioned making this an ongoing meeting. How do you signify that it is ongoing?
It only means, in order to cast, the meeting should happen in the scheduled time. In other words, your meeting will not be available to cast if it's scheduled in some other time. For example, if a meeting is scheduled at 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM time interval, you can cast to it only in that time even if the meeting could continue beyond that. So he was simply ensuring that the meeting is scheduled in past to show us a demo.

The tab I wish to Cast doesn't have the option to send it to the Google Meet anymore. But present a Chrome tab seems to be the way to go now. Update: Disregard. I'm in the same boat as others and haven't seen an answer. I was so excited about this today as this was my major missing part of Google Meet HOWEVER, when I went to do it in a Google Meet Live Session today the cast showed up BUT it was muted and it said that I couldn't unmute another presenter. Do you have a feel for which method, casting or presenting through a Chrome tab, gives the most reliable results? I need to present a musical performance that the meeting attendees will play along with, so I want to minimize the chance of lags or other disruptions. Both methods work for me (partially due to your fine video here!) but I wonder which you think has the least chance of disruptions. Thanks.

Hi. I had the same problem. I could cast to my chromecast but not to the Hangouts Meet that was running. Based on what the presenter said, it seemed like "enable cloud services" was the key to these two Google services communicating. If I toggle the service off and back on while my Meet is running, the option to cast to the Meet seems to pop up along with my chromecast. I am wondering if someone can test my "fix?" and reply? Tring to get this working for my teachers.

I have the same problem, have the google cast icon always shown, enabled it for cloud services, scheduled my meeting with google calendar (that is current), added conferencing (hangouts meet), went into current meeting, went to another tab with my video and click on the google cast icon. I do not see an option to cast to my current google meet, rather I see options to cast to my DISH receivers and to my ROKU, no option for my currently running google meet. Ideas?
@@iskalugdan SOLUTION (I think). I had this problem too. When you first click the three buttons and cast appears, an icon will appear on your tool bar that looks like a rectangle with sound waves in the bottom left corner. This is the important icon! Right click on it ands elect "alway appear." Now when you are ready to cast, you click this icon and any actively occurring meetings will show up. NOTE: meetings have to be schedule in the calendar and when you cast has to be within the time frame you set in your calendar. Meetings can continue past the posted end time, but you cannot cast past the posted end time Hope this helps!

Some feedback: We have used this new feature successfully with my wife's 4-5 grade classroom but as I am writing we are finding students on iPads are not seeing the 'meet' link under the class header as described (nothing is there at all). For students with laptops or district issued chromebooks, it is working just great. I am not certain what it takes to communicate with google on this issue but perhaps you have a better channel. I'm finding your channel very helpful. Good Work. I'm subscribed.

try changing the video settings to max resolution 720p and see if that helps the latency for the send and receive signals

This info is outdated. You can present a Chrome Tab. directly from your Google Meet.

I'm using the app on my phone and whenever i join and meet I can't hear anyone, I can speak and see but can't hear anyone. Redownloaded the app multiple times still no help

Try to turn on the speaker option in google meet mobile. just click the image on top u find speaker symbol
Try resetting your phone
Your microphone and speaker are probably using different sources.

This was a great video, but just a heads up to anyone here a year later like me this feature is no longer supported :( I went through all the steps to find out google meet won’t cast anymore they want you to share your tab instead

I'm in the same boat as others and haven't seen an answer. I was so excited about this today as this was my major missing part of Google Meet HOWEVER, when I went to do it in a Google Meet Live Session today the cast showed up BUT it was muted and it said that I couldn't unmute another presenter. Suggestions? Hoping to get answer so that I can use this tomorrow-as a world language teacher was so excited to get this to work. Thank you.

Do you have a feel for which method, casting or presenting through a Chrome tab, gives the most reliable results? I need to present a musical performance that the meeting attendees will play along with, so I want to minimize the chance of lags or other disruptions. Both methods work for me (partially due to your fine video here!) but I wonder which you think has the least chance of disruptions. Thanks.

Thank u so much. I was having a problem in screen sharing, where others were able to watch it, but not hear anything.. it gets automatically muted. Many technicians tried, but couldnt make it better. Now I tried casting, and yeah it worked!!

Thanks for these tips! How do I cast my powerpoint slides which have embedded videos ?? BTW, I was also unable to see my hangout meet when I click on the cast button..(I followed all 3 steps as per this videos)

Hi. I had the same problem. I could cast to my chromecast but not to the Hangouts Meet that was running. Based on what the presenter said, it seemed like "enable cloud services" was the key to these two Google services communicating. If I toggle the service off and back on while my Meet is running, the option to cast to the Meet seems to pop up along with my chromecast. I am wondering if someone can test my "fix?" and reply? Tring to get this working for my teachers.

I have the same problem, have the google cast icon always shown, enabled it for cloud services, scheduled my meeting with google calendar (that is current), added conferencing (hangouts meet), went into current meeting, went to another tab with my video and click on the google cast icon. I do not see an option to cast to my current google meet, rather I see options to cast to my DISH receivers and to my ROKU, no option for my currently running google meet. Ideas?

make sure your chrome browser is logged into the same account that you are logging into as the meeting moderator and see if that helps
@@iskalugdan SOLUTION (I think). I had this problem too. When you first click the three buttons and cast appears, an icon will appear on your tool bar that looks like a rectangle with sound waves in the bottom left corner. This is the important icon! Right click on it ands elect "alway appear." Now when you are ready to cast, you click this icon and any actively occurring meetings will show up. NOTE: meetings have to be schedule in the calendar and when you cast has to be within the time frame you set in your calendar. Meetings can continue past the posted end time, but you cannot cast past the posted end time Hope this helps!

Some feedback: We have used this new feature successfully with my wife's 4-5 grade classroom but as I am writing we are finding students on iPads are not seeing the 'meet' link under the class header as described (nothing is there at all). For students with laptops or district issued chromebooks, it is working just great. I am not certain what it takes to communicate with google on this issue but perhaps you have a better channel. I'm finding your channel very helpful. Good Work. I'm subscribed.
It is because the tablet is not the same as a computer, the capacity of the tablet is not as much as the computer.

My Chrome browser does not have the option "Enable Cloud Services" to choose. How can I enable that option?
Go into Chrome settings and Turn on Sync! This should make the option appear. Hope that helps

The best way now would be to use the updated share a tab function. I made a video on that and it should be rolling out to all domain this week.

When I click on the cast icon it doesn't give me the option to "always show the icon", it turns into a puzzle! I'm in Chrome and I'm using a Chromebook. Is there another way?
