- We have a massive swell hitting California right now and surf forecasters are calling it the biggest in decades for the state. This was filmed out at Blacks Beach where it was 15-18 feet!
Overhyped swell
sure doesn’t look like anything special beside saying you survived a mean paddle out
I find it really funny how all of the groms in their late teens and 20's with their beach blonde hair and neon wetsuits walk around with their chests puffed up when it's 5 ft. and under, but they're nowhere to be seen when it's actually firing 😆
Surfed Blacks 1978 or 79 huge.Very strong offshore with tubes you could fit a bus.The tops of the sets were getting blown back hundreds of yards outside. Was insane, was lucky to make it out on first attempt, caught two waves and on my 3rd, a monster, i ate it and got the drubbing of my life, no leash, swam for a long time and then walked very far to retrieve my board, it was epic.
Don’t believe Surfline’s hype. They’re selling a product. 2016-17 was way bigger and better in most of the entire state.
like 0 makeable waves
That swell was as good as Cali's homeless problem.
as usual, when big, 90 % closed out...
Well the surfline says so then it must be the biggest swell in 150 years 😂
if you have never done it you cannot imagine the power this water has. I mean you truly have no idea the conditioning required especially in the water temp to do this . What I dont get it is they all close outs and in my opinion not worth it at half the work.
'78 probably November, P.B. POINT was breaking from Hermos to Loring st. Perfect all day 3/4 mile as the crow flies .
Thanks for the video dude. Grew up surfing Black's and surfed "Big Wednesday" Jan 28, 1998. Living inland and great to relive some of the action!
Was standing on the cliff at the Gliderport at the same time as you. I was delivering those big white panels to the construction site. We got there the night before and I could here the waves from the street. Couldn’t wait for daylight! Amazing. Dont have much time for surfing anymore these days, but thats the biggest I’ve seen in at least 20 years. Great video. 🤙
So glad you shared this! Thanks!!
Brooo this video is blowing up!! Good stuff! 👏🏽
Not biggest in 15 for sure if you count rideable waves. A good big wave day for San Diego, but I’ve seen bigger in the last few years. Biggest I’ve seen was in a big el nino swell that had the LJ reefs at 20 plus. Horseshoe reef was looking like 2nd reef pipeline and a set pushed up over the bluff and onto the street.
thanks for the great shots Jordan. the swell of a life time!
18-25' at harbor cove Ventura point. And the best is to come on Tuesday.
Between kooks snowballing the deep and early closeout sections, this break looks like it was challenging to get a decent ride to say the least....
2017 was big! I know it wasn’t a westerly swell but tbh I was a bit overhyped for this swell and blacks can be bigger and prettier for sure , I was up there today twice for stills and loved hearing the booms of the sets until the wind chop made it less noticeable. Great little edit let’s hope these next swells bring some tubes even if smaller!!
