Jojo Siwa ikr, everyone forgot about her since Whitney used it, and it shocks me so many people don’t even know that it’s written by her or don’t even know her..
For people who say that everything is sampled and copied, this is what I gotta say; isn’t that cool??? I mean you could use a sound and turn it into something COMPLETELY different. That’s why music will never die. Nobody’s music will be forgotten, because oldies get turned into a new hit single... idk maybe it’s just me who thinks that but, I think it’s pretty cool.
None of this matters or counts when it’s a common phrase used in every day life. It’s been used in music, movies, and tv for decades. It’s like accusing an artist for sampling or stealing for using the phrase “I love you.” No one can own that
"Centuries" I know, only because I heard "Tom's Diner" on the radio and thought, "Sounds familiar." The original singer actually re-recorded the vocals for the later song.
LOL wtf Cardi straight copied that Tommy girl and instead of saying Tommy she just used Cardi, she needs to fire her ghost writer cause we all know she's got one
TAEsGucciV That’s the only thing I don’t about covers and sampling. Artists come and cover their songs and get some much success and the original is left behind.
I'm just wondering if you find these songs by yourself? Or how you notice this? Pretty interesting. There's some obvious samplings, but most of them I wouldn't've realized myself.
you mean to tell me, that azealia banks had the nerve to come for nicki, when she used her flow on her song? good thing she apologized, cuz thats fucked
Stealing is just reusing a song without concent of the original creator and without changeing anything. Sampling is taking a part of a song (lyrics, melody,...) And using it in your own (with concent of the original creator) A cover is just your own version of An other song. (I think it doesn't matter if you have concent or not but you have to credit the original creator so you're not stealing) Correct me if I'm wrong tho
Stealing is using a song without permission or credit, sampling is taking part of a song to use and spice up your track, with permission. Obv with permission. It doesn’t have to be direct, but it usually does have to be mostly taken from the original track, and a cover is singing another artist’s song with permission. Sometimes you can do it to show how far you’ve come, show off your skill, or just to pay homage to the original artist. Using someone’s lyrics isn’t necessarily a sample, though. Sometimes it can just be a reference to a well known lyric. Like with Lana del Rey, that wasn’t a sample. It was more just a reference. “One for the money” is a really well known lyric.
I am old, I recognized many of these songs as sampling, remaking o r as covers of other music. Young folks might want to check out older to music to see that there are current artists are at least paying homage if not out right taking samples to older music. It has gone on forever. Elvis was not the first to sing Hound Dog that was regarded years earlier by Big Mama Thorton. My favorite song Drift Away by Dobie Gray was a cover version that was way more popular than the original recording by John Henry Kurtz and has since been recorded by many artists-- popular versions by the Nylons, Uncle Kracker and Rascal Flatts, but Dobie Gray is my favorite by far.
2:51 how is this a sample? “One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go” has been a phrase in use since the 1800’s. Carl Perkins does not own the phrase, nor coined it. I know Lana romanticized the 1950s and 60s, but that literally what else is similar between the two songs besides the shared common phrase?
Because you thought that you were listening to the "original song" and when you hear that what you thought was original, and that it is finally a sample you feel kind of "betrayed".
This actually made me cry, my uncle used to own a cd store, he liked this most of the songs, but sadly he died September 28th, at the young age of 46 would have been 47 the 30th of this month.
Miscellaneous the expression comes from a well-known children's rhyme which has existed since the 1800s. "One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go." Musicians like Elvis Presley have used it in their songs thus resulting in its popularity.

I don't know if this one is known or what, but the song "Bagdad", by Rosalía, has sampled cry me a river, and obviously she asked Justin Timberlake for permission and all that stuff, and he is credited in the song. But I just sayed this, because I think it is a very good example of sampling. It just gave the melody and the rhythm a completely new vibe and meaning, and that is amazing to me.
"Lovers and Friends" was originally by Michael Sterling and Drake also sampled "Back That Azz Up" in his song "Practice". I love these videos and listening to the originals.

Shayla J DOLLY COVERED THE SONG TOO
Shayla J it's not Dolly's either lmao

Camryn Bailey um didn’t dolly write it first..and Whitney covered it later?

Dolly likes Whitney's version tho.
what does sampling mean?
penny thot It means you take something out of an original song and alter it to make something somewhat new
Damn she got 0 creds...

Azealia Banks shadin Nicki but sampled her song. Lol
