After using Chromecast for over a decade one of my Chromecast devices has stopped working. This was the only video on RUclips after watching many that got it back working. WELL DONE!

After that repair and regaining internet no Chromecast device found. Had my Chromecast plugged into port number to of my stereo receiver. From the receiver goes into my Samsung TV there a dmi cable. It worked great for years but now I can't get it to. I tried rebooting everything including Chromecast device. Still no Chromecast device found? Do you know what I can do next? Still on Chromecast device found on my phone. For example on a RUclips video I have the Chromecast symbol button but when pressed no device found.

I spent 3 hours trying to set it up, this is XXI CENTURY, this is GOOGLE! What I see on my TV screen is only: "setting up your TV", follow the instructions on the Google home app. But no instructions! I hate it!!!
These setup videos are incomplete. You can also use your phone hotspot to setup. After setup you have 2 methods to cast to tv. 1. "Mirror" via the home app. This method means you cannot use your hp for other things but it's free and does not consume any hotspot data. 2. "Cast " using the cast button on the videos itself. It will consume hotspot data but you can use your hp while casting. Note: my telco plan comes with unlimited data with 5gb limited hotspot

@Michael Butterworth Try playing an app, such as Netflix on your phone or tablet or laptop and click the "cast" icon or "play on TV" and it should start to play on the TV. To use it just treat it like you are watching something on a smaller screen and want it to play on the TV. Start the app playing on your phone, have your TV on and hit the icon and enjoy! Mine says Chromecast found and it has the correct number but there colored code is never shown on either device, only the wifi menu opens but if I close it, I'm told connection unsuccessful

In nutshell, this means both casting device and Chromecast itself has to be in same network. However there are many possible setups. For instance my Chromecast 3 gets internet via Ethernet and I cast mostly via 5 GHz Wifi and 2.4 GHz Wifi but as both wifi interfaces and ethernet switch are bridged on router and access point, it runs perfectly :)
I believe any device that has the Google Home app, using the same google account that you set up the Chromecast with, SHOULD work. Just log in and follow any set up on the device you want to use as your remote.

We just changed WiFi providers from Dish to Sparklight (which goes through the cable lines in our house). Now nothing shows up when I click on the cast button. It's like it doesn't recognize that I have a casting device. Do I need to tell Chromecast that I have a new WiFi connection? If so, how do I re-set it up?

Ah so it's depended on a wifi router, that's one way to kill my interest in it. Was thinking this would be an excellent gift for some older folks i know (who are not tech savy) to have for their forest summer cottage place, so they could watch movies and other things on the TV via their phones they got but having to explain to them how this works plus having to teach them how to turn their phones into mobile hot spots to trick the chromecast into thinking there's a wifi-router would be a huge pain, especially since they'd most def. forget how to do it. Wouldn't be an issue for me personally but for old people this would be an undertaking and i have no mood to play tech support for them every time they forgot something.
Can someone clarify: I was to cast Hulu on my TV (using Chromecast). On my my device that I’m using as my “remote” (for example, I downloaded the Google Home app on my iPad), I need to have BOTH the Google Home app and the Hulu app downloaded on try iPad? Depends on what you want to do with it. Roku stick is more versatile. Chromecast was created years before the Roku stick, Roku now has more features. Why do you want to set up a Chromecast if you prefer the Roku features?

Try reformatting your Chromecast(do this by holding the button on your Chromecast in). It worked for me
