The particular unit is qualitative only. In my next video I evaluate the Autel EVO 2 Enterprise 640T. That unit will produce a quantitative radiometric image.
Great video Bill, My agency had just purchased a Dual and I am finding it has a better FLIR image that the DJI 300 matrice. I have a few questions about the new firmware that addresses the thermal Added radiometric support for infiRay 640T sensor in picture-in-picture mode. Don't really understand what that means the thermal camera will or won't do. and I can't find anyone that can explain it Thanks
If I understand what you're asking, does the new firmware add radiometric capability? I think that Autel is about to release a new thermal sensor that has radiometric capabilities. The Boson sensor I reviewed does not have radiometric capabilities. Radiometric is a capability that records the temperature of each pixel. There are software applications which can read and interpret this data (FLIR Tools). This data is helpful in commercial applications like solar panel inspection or measuring the temperature of components on a power grid. Public safety personnel typically do not use this functionality with possible exception of firefighters who may find that information helpful.
I am curious to know what application this might have. Thermal imaging systems are typically used for analysis or locating heat signatures. FPV flying is usually fast moving. What are your thoughts on how thermal imaging might apply to this type of flying? Thermal cameras are very expensive and may not hold up well in collisions which are common in FPV flight applications. Those are my thoughts.
@@BillBongle Thank you for your response! To be honest I just want to fly at night hahaha. I have read the documentation on this drone and did not see a reference that the Thermal Camera is actually a Flir Camera. Could you share some light on this statement? Thanks, MJ
Hello MJ. The drone featured in this video is an older model, the Autel Evo 2 Dual. That version was equipped with a FLIR Boson Sensor. Later versions like the Autel Evo 2 Enterprise 640T utilize a different thermal sensor made by another company, Infiray. The 640T was featured in a different video that I produced comparing it the the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise. There was a period when the customer could choose a FLIR branded sensor on the Evo 2 Enterprise (Version 2) but this have been since discontinued. The current versions (Version 3) are all equipped with the Infiray brand thermal sensor. I hope that clears things up.
Any recommendations you can make for convincing a SAR team that this drone is necessary and any grant funding sources? I just ordered the Evo 2 Pro 6K for my own use and hope to use it to convince our Board the necessity of thermal as we only have a Phantom P4 V2 at this point.
Great question! Adding thermal capabilities to your assets is vital for missing person searches. A quick google search of "drone finds missing" will reveal thousands of results. There are countless examples of drones being used to locate missing, endangered persons. While your existing drones can be a great asset, without a thermal camera you could fly right over a missing person and not even know it. You may consider partnering with your local emergency government office or a local fire department. As far as grants go, I would focus more on local organizations and businesses. In my community a convenience store chain donated money to purchase drone equipment. Optimist clubs, business organizations and cities groups. You could consider holding a fund raiser. Come to them with a clear plan on what you would use the equipment for and exactly what you need to get it. Contact me for an official quote so you know exactly what you need. The model featured in this video has been replaced with another that has more capabilities. Email me at info@titletowndrones.com and I will explain the many options. Good luck!
I'm concerned about it's performance in the wind. Literature states up to 40mph winds are fine, however real world tests show this unit to really struggle with anything over 20mph. In addition, I don't think this unit does well in the rain, like most others. It rains a LOT here (UK), limiting the opportunities for use.
I've flown it in mid 20's without much trouble but 40 is a max rating, not recommended flying environment. The newer Evo 2 Enterprise has larger motors and a bit more power. Yes these are not rated for wet weather. You would want a DJI M300 to operate int he conditions you describe.
Hello I am sarath from india having some confusion Which Drone have to buy Autel evo 2 dual or mavic enterprise advance.? We are going to use for inspection (solar ,wind turbine and chimney)
Good question. While the Crystal Sky monitor (a DJI product) is compatible, the DJI smart remote controller is not. At this point in time, the only remote controller that is compatible with the Evo 2 series is the Autel remote controller.
The newest version (V3) Enterprise kit is $6999. This kit has more features and accessories that the one in this video. titletowndrones.com/autel-evo-2-enterprise/

The thermal resolution is the same but the sensors are from different manufacturers. Each has a 30hz refresh rate. Some users believe the Autel sensor produces superior thermal imaging, it is a genuine FLIR product vs the H20T which is manufactured by DJI. This is a subjective evaluation and up to the viewer. The H20T has additional thermal capabilities such as radiometric. I do not currently have an H20T to compare it to. The H20T has a 23X optical zoom whereas the Autel uses 8x digital zoom so the zoom capabilities of the H20T would be superior to the Autel sensor. From a public safety perspective, the thermal cameras have similar resolution and each would produce excellent results but there is a big price difference in these systems. The H20T camera costs nearly as much as the Autel Evo 2 Dual rugged bundle. Once you purchase a Matrice 300 and batteries you are more than double the price.
@@BillBongle Thank you for your insight. I think the newly announced Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced uses the same thermal sensor as the H20T - with the only exception coming from lower digital zoom - 32x visual / 16x Thermal. I think the reduction in zoom power is a result of the smaller payload size. Just assumptions here, but based on the discussions on various forums, this is the most plausible setup they'll have. The rumored price is also in the range of 5.5-7k, most likely $6.5k - significantly lower than Evo 2 Dual. I was ready to purchase the Evo 2 Dual, but on the day I had planned on purchasing DJI announced their new M2EA, so I'm just waiting to see what their official pricing is before deciding. I agree the FLIR sensor may be slightly more clear - but not worth paying an additional $3k if that ends up being the case.
@@socalbadger1 I don't blame you. There is only speculation on what DJI will price the Mavic 2E Advanced. I am guessing its going to be a bit higher than those estimates. I would point out that the Autel is not burdened with flight restrictions. Lots of things to consider but it's going to be interesting to see how the M2EA plays into this. Having options is a good thing.
Yes you can swap the cameras. There are a couple screws to remove and a ribbon cable. It's fairly easy. The new 640T thermal camera is quite a bit cheaper and is compatible as well.
Hi,Bill and thanks for this vid, im looking for a drone which we at our organization can use to count our cattle and game animals at our farm, i did a search and count with a Mavic pro platinum, it was all good , but i thought with thermal camera, zoom function the whole idea would be great. whats your advice, im thinking of the Autel Evo 2 dual ....
I think that Autel is a great choice. I would recommend the newer version, the 640T. It's less expensive and does not sacrifice any features or image quality. The flight times are close to 40 min. The new Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced is also a great choice but shorter flight times. Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions or visit my website at www.TitletownDrones.com
how do you get the temperature readings to appear on the recorded video? it just shows the thermal colours but the readings that were on the screen arent in the video. One has to take notes whilst flying?
There is a thermal analysis tool that you can download from Autel's website. This tool will allow you to pull detailed information form a thermal image including temperature of each pixel. www.autelrobotics.com/download/139.html
When this product was rolled out they said they were going to offer both resolution options however the 320 was never released and not likely to be. There are 2 options now: the FLIR Boson 640x512 featured in this video and the InfRay 640x512 Radiometric sensor found in the the Autel Evo 2 640T. FLIR is US made and InfiRray is Chinese made.

The resolution fo the thermal camera is a big part of the price. I think there are some great commercial opportunities here as well with roof and solar panel inspections. Before I purchase a piece of equipment I do a cost benefit analysis and try to determine how long it will take for the equipment to pay for itself.
@@scottdufour I would start by contacting potential clients and see what sort of detail and report they need from an inspection and the size of the job. You can ask them outright how much they might pay for such a service. Some solar fields are enormous. This will help you determine the scope of work. Next, calculate the cost of insurance, 3rd party software reporting tools, prep time, post processing, estimated flight time, travel time and any other expenses you may incur. Don't forget taxes, for a small business owner this could amount to as much as 38% of your gross income. Will you pursue the thermographer certification? This credential may help you better prepare to operate a small business that specializes in thermal inspections. Consider the cost of the equipment you are using and the specialized nature of these inspections. I am sorry that I cannot give you an hourly amount but a common business mistake is to charge too little for specialized services. You may find some guidance by attending some webinars offered by Drone Deploy, Pix4d and others. I wish you success.

Thank you, well done video.
Thank you!
how do you get the temperature readings to appear on the recorded video? it just shows the thermal colours but the readings that were on the screen arent in the video. One has to take notes whilst flying?
There is a thermal analysis tool that you can download from Autel's website. This tool will allow you to pull detailed information form a thermal image including temperature of each pixel. www.autelrobotics.com/download/139.html
does it have two resolutions for thermal capturing? In spec sheet they have mentioned 640 & 320.
Great report.
Thanks! I'll be publishing more videos soon.
Where does one get one of those cameras?
question. I just ordered the mount from flyhighusa, I have the thor mount but it is to topheavy. My question is to get my crystalsky to work, I have to unplug the usb cable and plug it back in, do you have a better solution? Thank you.
Yes, that is a known issue. If you power on the remote with it attached it wont connect until you unplug and plug it back in.
@@BillBongle thank you!!!!!

I am joining the civil defence , Starting up a business for exactualy what you described in Ireland as we are beside the sea and we have a lot of lost souls, Also to help the coast guard. I wil also be doing weddings, and real-estate

yes!! i cant count how many times i had LAANC authorization but the stupid dji app wouldnt download my certificates so i couldnt launch!
aren't these like 9K
Wish I could afford that one....
But its 10k! I got the mavic 2 pro though and love it 😍 but I defiantly want this drone as well
The resolution fo the thermal camera is a big part of the price. I think there are some great commercial opportunities here as well with roof and solar panel inspections. Before I purchase a piece of equipment I do a cost benefit analysis and try to determine how long it will take for the equipment to pay for itself.
@@BillBongle what would you suggest charging for solar panel inspections?
ONLY 9K DOLLARS? I thought it would be expensive lol
Yeah thermal cameras are expensive. The new 640T saves some money though.
Dji matrice 30 but way cheaper
Wouldn't buy autel again after my experience with the support after your money has been taken .
I am curious to know why. If you are willing, shoot me an email at info@titletowndrones.com to explain. I've had great response from customer support.
Very useful in war against Russia invasion on Ukraine. Slava Ukraini!
