Late to the party, but I really like seeing either separate videos showcasing the different categories of makes or all-inclusive but with separate categories and time stamps. Your reclaimed yarn pullover is lovely. How fun that you hung out with Francesca!
I’ve been busy with an overseas move and was out of the loop for a while. So grateful to have it behind me and to be able to sit and catch up on your videos and my knitting. Lovely lovely short tour, thank you for that! It does look a lot like Florence. Really enjoyed seeing your spring plans. That dress!!! Happy belated 50th!
I would really love a video with slipover patterns. Since I'm always waaaay too hot in normal sweaters slipovers with a thin cotton shirt underneath are really the only thing I can wear. Thank you for your inspiring content.
I share your experience with sleeves shortening over time. I make the sleeves about inch longer than I think I need and re-block if needed. It really does work! Also the sleeve on the At The Seaside pattern is called a saddle raglan. It’s very pretty and so easy to seam. Thank you for another beautiful vlog, Lisa. (BTW you are rocking 49 and have an ageless beauty. You remind me of Audrey Hepburn.) ❤
Aw,thank you! My oldest daughter is Audrey, partly because I’ve always loved Audrey Hepburn. Thanks for giving me the name of that shoulder construction!
Thanks Lisa. Some really beautiful yarns you have Happy to know about any free patterns available (ancient and on a fixed income/budget here 😂😂). 🧶🧶🧶. 🙋🏼🏴
The sun is shining and I am happily knitting away. Wonderful podcast as always Lisa. I love that dress! I have the same Isager yarn, 2 balls in the same colour , the silk you have 🥰 thanks for sharing, Karen
Glad to hear it’s sunny where you are! Your that you posted inspired me to get this one cast on right away. I love that we have the same Isager. Have you chosen a pattern yet?
@@Lisamakes no idea what to use the Isager for 🤭🤣 wanted free shipping a while back and I’m like “paying for shipping ….nope!” add to cart 😂🙄 no plan just in cheapskate mindset!!
Beautiful red sweater. I think you will wear the sweater more and would love it. It also has a lovely spring-like colour so you could wear it in 3 seasons.
I live in theDallas, TX area. I find that I just don’t get a lot of wear out of sweaters that have 3/4 length sleeves. If it’s cold enough to wear a sweater then I need my whole arm covered. I love your knitting content, I got some great ideas!I just started knitting again after a “break” of about 40 years. 😊I just made my first sweater a couple of months ago, working on another one for my 17 year old granddaughter.
FROG IT, you'll love that color, that softness, in a cardigan. It is a lovely sweater that is almost done, but would you wear a cardigan more often? I vote for yet another frog. Looking forward to see what you decide.
looking forward to your upcoming pattern videos! I would actually love to see if you find cool patterns for using up those smaller 1-2 skein amounts of yarn in garments- stripes are the go-to of course but would love to see if there are other options you find. I bought too many hat/sock projects and then got tired of knitting them, would love to use them thoughtfully in a garment.
Great idea! I’ll look into it. The thing, of course, is with garments the sizing changes the yarn amount so much! There are certainly some tanks and tees I can think of!
Fantastic and informative video as always Lisa😊. You nailed it with the Steven West kals - I feel the same way. I kniy this year's and haf already knit a lot of the central design before the controversy kicked off. I'm pleased with the finished shawl but not sure how often I'd reach for it. Great for learning new techniques though. I'm going to suggest different categories for the free patterns 🤗😁. Happy knitting 🧶🧶
Right? It’s so worth doing at least once for the learning experience, but you have to really love the design to wear it a lot. I think I’ll watch the first week of the next one and then decide.
Thank you for great podcast! I am spending 3 weeks in Barcelona this summer ❤ Do you have any yarnstore recommedations? Thank you afain! BR Jenny from Stockholm Sweden
About your quest to make a top with a built in bra, just thinking out loud…I’ve seen patterns knit a purl row on the stockinette side and when your done, you can pick up stitches through the purl bumps and then knit the top half of the top going bottom up and maybe knit 2sts together along the edges, to tack the sides together? I’d be curious to know your thoughts…I might actually try this on the Audrey too by Petite knits.😊
Oh, that’s really interesting! I’m going to take a screenshot of this and try to incorporate it into a summer project. Let me know if you do end up adding it to the Audrey! Thank so much!
Just thinking out loud here. I’ve added a stretchy bandeau with elastic at the bottom to a tank top before. I don’t think I have the pattern anymore but I’m wondering if something like that could be sewn into your top after you have finished it.
Oh my god, I just love your Soc una troca yarn. So much that I went to their page and ordered it for myself :D I have to think if I want to mix it with some other yarn or maybe just two strands together? If you will be making a swatch of yours combo with Isager please show it
Because you use timestamps on your videos, it really doesn’t matter to me whether you do the pattern separately or together. Enjoyed this video, just like all the others!
Is that the European way, to cast on at the top of the garment? When I was little (1960s, USA)my great aunt started to teach me, and she always cast on at the bottom of the garment. Is one way better?
Hello! Casting on at the top of a garment, or top down knitting, has become the more popular way to knit garments in the last 10-15 years. It was invented in the US and continues to be popular all over. It allows the knitter to knit a garment seamlessly, try on as they go to check fit, and judge the length of the body and sleeves based on how much yarn they have left. I would say 90% of my garments were knit top town. It’s not a case of better or worse, just personal preference. ❤️
Love your podcast. I need your HELP. I am going crazy trying to find the pattern for the Mossdress. I have gone to Mother Knitting site and still unable to find a way to purchase the 2207 collection. I have to make that dress. I am in love with it.
@@Lisamakes OMG, Thank You for getting back to me so fast. I do not mind ordering from Europe at all. I am so excited. Thank You. Your videos are fascinating.Question My daughter went on her honeymoon in Oct 2023 to Spain and Portugal For my birthday she said I will get you any yarn you want that you could not get in Calif. So she went to 2 yarn stores in Madrid and ( I had told her I want the softest merino they have) Each store told her that is junk yarn???? She called me on FB and I tried to explain the yarn wt and content. She was sold alpaca and acrylic and cotton wool .Very disappointed did not have sweater quantities .In Lisbon she was sold Katia merino beautiful yarn but I can get that here all day long. Was it a language issue or because she was an american who did not speak spanish or portuguese? Out of the 3 shops the one in Lisbon was the most helpful. Am I crazy
That’s so weird! The only thing I can think is that there are many many “mercerias” which are smaller shops with a mix of knitting and sewing, and they often have more acrylic yarns because they are cheaper. It may just be that she wasn’t at a knitting specialty shop. There are only a few in Madrid. In Barcelona I know several! What a shame. I don’t think it was because she’s a tourist, though.
The sweaters people are buying to "reclaim the yarn" are *needed* by individuals who can not afford to walk into a store and buy them new. Yes, I realize that for many knitters, the only way to afford a sweater-quantity of yarn is to reclaim yarn from a vintage or thrifted sweater. For those knitters, frogging an existing sweater is a reasonable option. Folks who can afford yarn - especially those who can afford top shelf yarns - might want to consider that they are taking the opportunity to have something a little nicer than a used sweatshirt away from someone who really needs it. Having worked at an agency that assisted women who were rebuilding their lives (after cancer or job loss or fleeing an abusive relationship...) I have seen firsthand the emotional boost that something as simple as a nice sweater - even an "outdated" one - can give a woman who has felt unattractive or undeserving for years. For the people who need to reclaim yarn to knit sweaters, I would make a suggestion: *ANY "second-hand" yarn* - whether it's reclaimed from a FO or purchased as unused yarn - should be placed in the freezer for at least 5 hours (or overnight) to kill any bugs, larvae or eggs. Steaming will generally kill mature bugs and larvae, but most eggs will survive steaming and hatch later to invade surrounding yarn & garments.
Thank you for taking time to leave such a heartfelt response. I can’t agree with you, simply because of the huge volume of clothing on the second hand market. Our world is flooded with it. I believe everyone should try to buy second hand first- not just clothing but other goods- and then new if they can’t find what they are looking for. The impact on the planet from all this consumption we do as a society is very costly. However, I totally respect your opinion and am glad we have a forum on RUclips to discuss things.
