I'm doing my CERT IV Building and Construction at TAFE. I'm an ICT Project Manager swapping over to construction so; I'm learning this tradework from scratch. This was a great video showing the technique of levels and for me, showing the two different Ties from the existing wall to new brickwork and for the new brickwork to the block work Stu put in later!
This man takes pride in his work. It's a very good job. Just look how it shows up the lay from the original house :) I wish I could find someone as good.
You made it look so easy which obviously is not..such a neat and tidy bricklayer. Also pleasing to the eye.. Wish the guy who built my extension was half as good as this..
BestPro Gamer135 you can join a technical school. I'm in a school called lcti and I've been leaning brick work for about 6 months. I'm pretty good at it
Nice neat work. Must point out to anyone watching as a tutorial that any airbricks on the house (if suspended floor) must be sleaved under the floor slab to the outside with pipe. Happy bricklaying!
I enjoy watching your work. The manner in which you lay your bricks is really eye catching. Thanks for the videos. I am a novice builder but from watching your videos, I have improved tremendously in the manner in which I lay my brick work. Thanks a lot and God bless you
I know nothing of masonry. Just learning for repair's sake. The damp proof layer, is that secured to the lower brick at all? Or is it all just laying on top of the brink? If it just lays there, what keeps the upper brick from shifting over lower bricks?
When you're laying to the line pull the brick and lift the heal of brick a little to get a nice full head joint instead of just pushing the brick down, another tell tale sign of not a full joint is waves in your striking. Other then that nice job also invest in a pan and stand
Stu' , you are a natural and you have just been promoted to "The bloke I could watch all day" status . (and I taught it for more years than I care to remember ) . Australia needs you ,go and earn some serious money !
You are good enough to start at the top ,contact a few big contractors in Perth ( must be Perth climate question ) as apprentice boss or similar . When you see how their system works you will soon learn the money is on the tools . When you have the contacts ,life becomes a lot easier. Best of luck ! stu crompton
Nice job. If was a house, 100mm cavities are a must. I have been a bricklayer 24 years now. The regs change so often changed. So always look into these before starting.
Where are the weep holes for the cavity ? In case in leaks with water in the cavity ? Should the floor base not be poured after 2 courses of brick to allow water to go down ???
I really need to finish my bricklaying apprenticeship. Only got a year left I think. Get out of an office job and back on the tools. Great vid mate and nice work too.
Daft question why grey bricks on bottom of conservatory is it just cosmetic or does it serve a purpose. Just wondering as builders are about to start my conservatory. Just wondering what to look for. Thank. Brilliant videos
Hi there. Can you add some detail please? Do you put a small mortar layer under the dpc? What is too much rain to lay bricks in? How far up should the dpc go? What about ensuring the joints right next to the fence are finished smooth so the rain runs off well? Do you finish the joint with the profiler after the mix has started to dry a bit? How many wall ties per meter squared required? Spacing horizontal & vertical? How many corses can you lay at a time? Good for watching you lay to the line but not much info to be able to confidently copy.
How do you get off the ground out of the mud? How do you actually lay the brick? Method? Which way is best to work from? If there is no wall or stack to go off how do you figure out distance between bricks from one layer to the next and end to end?
How come you screwed the wall brace on the cement and not the brick? I feel like the cement will be less rigid compared to if you put the plug into the side of the brick.
I've only just found your channel and simply put "its fantastic"!!! I love the informative attention to detail,I would love a video of how to join a corner pillar that is built in face brick and the method used to join those face bricks to block work.thanks for your quality videos and keep the good work these videos are very much appreciated.
at 3:46 i see your brick line but how do you know the brick is level across the width? I get that the brick line helps on the long edge of the brick but what about the other way to know its level? I hope that makes sense.
Maybe a stupid question, but isnt the whole wall just sat on a loose DPC? Whats bonding the wall to the footings/concrete base if the dpc isnt stuck down?
Very nice, you could get a job doing that! Seriously though, best bit of bricklaying I have seen for ages. I enjoyed watching this. You always recognise a man who is skilled at his trade when he makes it all look so easy. Shame you're not based near the south coast as I would have had a job for you.
Brilliant Stu - how nice to see class work being done by someone who enjoys his craft. Well done pal.

Good tradesmen like Stu are increasingly hard to find .
I am a retired General Contractor of 35 years in residential construction, and that is a great job, wish you were around the U.S. when I was building.
+Jack Holt thanks jack appreciate that

Wish the guy who built my extension was half as good as this..
Awesome job, it's nice to see someone do it right instead of "eyeballing" the work. It's actually properly level.
thanks buddy
Why did you not cut a cavaty into existing house ,between the straps you fixed. Would the damp not travel into the new room
Another great video Stu. You're pride in your work is exemplary. A pleasure to watch. Cheers for sharing.
+Nick Walton thanks nick buddy I appreciate you watching 👍
best brick work I've seen for long time and a tidy job
cheers Gary

Your now 16
The more skills you have the better equipped you are in life mate.
@@larka8827 Im going for carpenter (handyman) from there I will be a contractor but once you know one profession you can learn another easily.
Is it ok to put inner skin onto concrete base? Don’t need to build inner skin to damp course? Cheers
Nice neat work. Must point out to anyone watching as a tutorial that any airbricks on the house (if suspended floor) must be sleaved under the floor slab to the outside with pipe. Happy bricklaying!

Is there a physical connection between the damp course and the foundation?
Cheers you make it look so easy. But one thing. 2:56 Doesn't sitting the bricks on a damp course make the whole wall unstable?
You make it look so easy, dare I try it for myself for the first time. lovely job.
you can do anything chris just get stuck in and learn :)
Nice wall ties! We usually use standard ones that get nailed on by a one inch concrete nail. Usually results in a smashed thumb and soiled pants.
Mate I’m a landscaper! Mostly paveing fencing and so and so on . Love your videos. Love brick my self
A very good demonstration of the mechanics of circulating.

Fair play mate your a top bricky one of the best I’ve seen by a mile 👍
Not really Jon just plenty practice anyone can do it if they practice enough 👍
I love watching these vids. Never attempted bricklaying, but does no mortar have to go under the DPC? couldn't it move if not.
Really nicely laid bricks! Very satisfying to watch u work.
Looks very professional, Stu - thanks for sharing 👍
Why can't I stop watching Stu's videos? I'm not even a brickie or anything.
how do you set the corner levels? before pulling up the line.water level?
With the laser level, we go round each corner find the highest point and mark down which corners need picking up 👍
No insulastion Stu??
Thank you stu for making brick looking attractive for people
used to build conservatory bases an have to say this guys work is top class.
This is art.. love watching it..
Where are the weep holes for the cavity ? In case in leaks with water in the cavity ? Should the floor base not be poured after 2 courses of brick to allow water to go down ???
That looks grand. How do you point in when it's so close to the fence?
Quality brick work there my friend
Thanks Stu for sharing your experience.
+Nickmedium thanks for watching

Very great job .
Can you please tell me how to change the color of the cement
at 5.55 mins of the vid were you are screwing in the wall tie do you not need to open a small cavity between them to stop water bridging over, cheers
It's 3am. I lost complete control of my life.
Caio Santos Amen, why are we like this?
3:19am for me on Christmas but this is awesome
Why, you're learning how to lay a brick course.
Lol 2:58 am and I'm wondering the same.

Man your vids are the best on here for bricklaying and you seem a decent guy as well.
Appreciate that Kevin. Glad you like them
What determines if you use a wall starter or tooth in?
Did you need to expose the cavity when starting the conservatory
I really need to finish my bricklaying apprenticeship. Only got a year left I think. Get out of an office job and back on the tools. Great vid mate and nice work too.
thanks james

nice one buddy glad i could help
ohh and also Happy New Year bud
Did we put in the weep holes
Nice work mate.. really neat and proper.
Excellent. I cant get the pointing sorted. Either not enough mortar or too much that goes over the brick faces
How come you screwed the wall brace on the cement and not the brick? I feel like the cement will be less rigid compared to if you put the plug into the side of the brick.
How do you get the bricks to space out evenly between the corners
Nice clean work brickie ! Making us proud . Boston Mass.
How do you check they are level? And how do you make sure they are the right plum?
Fantastic video and bricklaying...well done Stu.
Great video doing bricklaying at college myself this was great help
+Nathan Turner awesome thanks for watching Nathan
No vertical Damp or cavity cut ??
Just one question, instead of doing full brick from first course if you do half brick to match existing wall looks batter?
good work Stu ,I was wondering why your cavity didn't start below floor level?
Terry mccarthy also noticed it!
It's only a conservatory lads. No need for a cavity at all tbf. Just use insulated plaster board
I'm taking a bricklaying course now in college, this didn't really help but it was good to watch
nice one, thanks for watching, watch my other tutorials you may learn something from them buddy
What's the purpose of that black plastic like material placed under the brick?
How come no cavity in the slab and first two courses mate.
Thanks, Stu - Fun to watch. Nice work!
thanks michael :)
Do you mainly use yellow sand . How much do you charge per day ...
love a man who's serious about the trowel .... !!
What's the black cloth that you put under on the base?
Damp coarse. Plastic sheet to stop rising damp etc coming through the brick work.
your work is bloody amazing
thanks buddy
Why dpc when on top of efl?? many thanks
👍 do those ties you bolt to the wall always get fixed through the mortar?
Very tidy job. You make it look so easy.
+Patrick Ahearne thanks Patrick appreciate that
Hi Stu
How long do you leave the morter before pointing bricks
cheers
phil
theres a few factors that decide it phil like weather and types of brick so cant say really, just not when its wet.
what's the thing used to hold the string in the corner called?
Fantastic bricky and great taste in your music.... x
very nice and clean job
Brilliant video mate, lovely job too!

Could get a drill attachment for buzzing in things like the bolts on those wall trims

No problem buddy
quality job mate. I'm in property maintenance and find your trade mesmerising! would love to have done that in college years back but I didn't!
da gusto verlo poner el ladrillo, muy limpio sin ensuciar
It's nice to see him put the brick, very clean without messing
always handy to keep some spare ties in your bucket 😉
What's the point of keeping the dividing fence if the neighbouring side has already got an extension??
Hi! what do you use in the dough?
nice Clean work,super
Very nice, you could get a job doing that!
Seriously though, best bit of bricklaying I have seen for ages.
