    Rob Liefield was the Drake of 90s comics. Yeah he represents the genre but only because he had good marketing and because a lot of fans didn’t know how to find good artists

  • @Getwright-
    @Getwright- 2 дня назад +3

    The most impressive thing isn’t just the sculpt but the fact that lose collector was able to keep it looking like Liefield art but still working in 3D! Most of Rob’s art breaks rules of perspective (and anatomy lol) so the fact that those guns and knifes work is amazing

    At the risk of giving away too much personal information, I'm 23, so I missed the 90s and did not grow up in that era. Yet despite that fact, I hold a lot of reverence for the art and creators from that era. These character designs are classic Liefeld, and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned! While I acknowledge that the usual critiques of Liefeld's art are mostly accurate, I think Liefeld catches a very unfair amount of flack. Liefeld's art spoke to an entire generation because it encapsulated the pop culture of the era, Liefeld connected with his target audience in a manner that very few artists are able to do.
    Regardless of the criticisms he receives, I think Liefeld's legacy will be as an artist who shook up the status quo and helped usher in and proliferate a new style of comic art. Leifeld and his contemporaries (Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, etc.) were like Nirvana arriving on the scene of comic art circa the late 80/very early 90s. They created the template that many artists emulated for the remainder of the 90s. And of course, it goes without saying that Liefeld's part in helping to found Image was a major positive for the comics industry and an absolute victory for creators' rights in an industry that is notorious for taking advantage of creators.
    As far as these figures go, I think they do a wonderful job of representing the respective characters. Cabbot Stone is often criticized as a Cable ripoff, and while there are definite similarities, I think it's a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Those unrealistically-sized guns included with Cabott were the perfect accessories for this figure. They totally capture the aesthetic and style seen in the Bloodstrike comic.
    Bloodwulf in particular is a character design that I have always been fond of. In a genre populated with generic human mercenaries, an outlandish alien design was such a welcome and eclectic character design for a bounty hunter. Those head sculpts are particularly gorgeous and look like they were ripped right from the comics.

    Idc what anybody has to say or what has been said about Liefeld I am infatuated with his work. Yes maybe because the first comic i owned was brigade and youngblood, but i didnt even grow up in the 90s (before mt time). I will stand by it, the image comics designs or some of the most eccentric but damn baddass designs for comic characters out there. And i need all of them as figures. I just hope loosecollector can expand upon this and do far more than a few waves or somebody. Because as it stands image IP or even darkhorse valient none of these compaines ip have no mordern based figures. The market is there.

    These things are so odd. They’re modern but so era specific. They remind me of Toybiz from the sculpt to the paints to the hip joints. Absolutely phenomenal work put into them.

    Brother, your detailed review inspired me to put both of them on pre-order. I don't even know the characters' backstories, but I SHALL. It's crazy how action figures can actually push one to create a bond with a character one is not familiar with. - These two figs will probably be in the Top 10 of 2025. - Appreciate you! - Salute from Michigan

    These are nice and as you said they came strait from the pages of a Rob Liefeld 90's comic (I actually read these characters) even though they 're well proportionate and have the right perspetive... (who ever gets it gets it)!!! They're a bit on the expensive side but it's a small company even though I've never seen a company lowering their prices when they get bigger soo... they're just a bit expensive. I had them preordered but I'm buying so many figures from so many companies that where going to be released at around the same time that I canceled my preorders but I may end up getting them if I have the money when they're actually released.

    Great Review! I did preorder Blood wolf but 2 reasons I didn't get both was 1. Price point and 2nd I'm not big Blood Strike fan an would rather have Youngblood figures released. Gotta disagree it was Jim Lee!!

      Jim Lee was right there for sure but for me, the thought path goes:

    Wade, I got some years on you and I was very actively collecting comics back in the 90’s.
    Going every week to my local comic shop to get my pull list.
    The true comic collectors & fans, along with the quality shop owners thought of Rob Liefeld as a JOKE.
    You know he was with the Image Comics founders, but each one of them WAY BETTER artists & creators. Rob was the weak link.
    Image had issues getting their titles out on time & Liefeld was the worst offender.
    He was KICKED OUT of Image for trying to steal other artists from other Image Studio partners.
    His writing & art were sub par beyond belief.
    McFarlane & Jim Lee are so far superior in every way.
    Most knew it then & should now it now.. Liefeld Is Trash.

    • @UnparalleledUniverse
      @UnparalleledUniverse  2 дня назад +1

      That’s all well and good BUT his art was still the most popular stuff around and he is legendary. I agree with you!! I know most of his art was a joke but he was that 90s culture.

    • @traviswilcox3472
      @traviswilcox3472 2 дня назад

      @ You’re not wrong, a lot of Liefeld stuff was popular.
      As with so much past & present.. popular stuff can many times be ridiculous.
      Thankfully Odious is not like that, he’s an excellent creation ;)

    Yeah Rob Liefeld was most definitely the man in the 90's but I still gotta give it to Toddy Mac. He was killing the game and was the 1st comic artist I know of to make millions on his own.If we keeping it a buck wouldn't be a Rob Liefeld with out Todd .

    • @UnparalleledUniverse
      @UnparalleledUniverse  2 дня назад +1

      I think Toddy Mac was the bigger figure in the culture but I think Robs art itself is synonymous with that era. Yeah, definitely no Rob without Todd.
