12:5013:20 finality and stun counters are both replacement effects. The finality counter means that the chaos defiler would only trigger once since it gets exiled instead of dying and stun counters are removed in your untap step.
To be more precise, stun counters are removed when you would untap that permanent (no matter the source). Most permanents just untap during the untap step, thus removing a counter there.
16:00 This brings up an interesting point. Keeping a variety of answers in these sorts of situations has a lot of value to it. Varied answers give you more coverage and more flexibility over how you respond to threats. But when it comes to threats, the same principles make it more valuable to double up on a single threat rather than diversifying. The wider variety of threats you deploy, the more options you give your opponent for what answers go where. By deploying multiple of a single threat, you can potentially invalidate one of your opponents answers that doesn't line up well. The reasons to diversify threats are mostly to fit a curve, and to be better against recurrable answers. (I'm not saying the keep is wrong. Just making a general case for splitting answers and pairing threats.)
37:08 Fetching on your turn makes your stalactite stalker a 4/4, and since you're empty handed it doesn't really hurt you at all. I think that small mistake cost you the game.
Replace the Void Walkers with Opposition Agent. A turn 1 oppo agent off either ritual or mox tomb is more punishing than a turn one SlasherS Make it an Ancient Tomb, City of Traitors, Chrome Mox deck.
Is there any reason to not split Go for the Throat with Shoot the Sheriff? Both play in most matchups (both kill Murktides, Atraxas, etc.) and you would have another option against Painter, Constructs, Kappa, etc.
I did an analysis in a comment on another video where it turned out that Shoot the Sheriff is usually better in the current Legacy meta than Go for the Throat. The only relevant cards it misses are Broadside Bombardiers, Dauthi Voidwalker, and Brazen Borrower.
@AaronRotenberg Interesting. Thanks! Boombidooms seems like a big miss but Dauthi is only an issue if you're running Reanimate. Brazen B doesn't seem like a big miss either; it is usually a 1 of that blue decks run to answer lock pieces, not for the actual body (though a 3/1 flier isn't nothing)
I was grinding out leagues after I replied to your original post and the best I could muster was a 3-2, lost to a lot of painter. Slasher always felt great, it was the rest of my deck that was always lackluster. Good luck with the storm recovery!
39:50 I think you got your blocks backwards. If you block the other way, you kill both. And you had dauthi to prevent the wight from growing in response.
I like trying to lean in on the hand esource denial strat with stuff like hymns and lilianas, maybe? It just seems like you only ever have one thing you want to ritual out. Turn one barrow is... well it's not good.
Great vid, love both emperor and slasher. Slasher's kinda tearing up some Arena formats at the moment with Bloodletter of Aclazotz. Maybe something combo-y with it in Legacy might be worth looking into?
Hey phil, we all know esper miracles is a deck, but what about an esper manifest deck with aminatou? Using aminatou with a control package with something like scroll of fate as a way to have a board, blink manifests for cheating permentants in play around countermagic, etc? With cards like satoru the infiltrator, you get redraws for card advantage for using scroll of fate as well as free instant speed triggers to draw a miracle. Has sick synergy potentials with flexibility of leaning control tempo or aggro, depending on what kinds of threats wanna include
I think if you go Rakdos with burn spells it could be good too. Im thinking dark ritual, burns spells, and slasher and other good creatures like bowmaster. If you play slasher turn one off ritual. they die in 2 swings and a burn spell. i think nethergoyf is good too.
I get the madara comment and appreciate it greatly :). I know i rarely ever comment, but i've loved your content for years and are a consistent viewer of your videos and the eternal glory podcast. Keep up the great work ^^
Round 1 is a good example why Dark Ritual is an awkward choice for ramping in beat down decks. Top deck Dark Ritual turn 6 is just a punch in the nuts.
Haven't watched the full video yet, but wouldn't Exsanguinator cavalry be amazing in this deck? Maybe instead of the barrowgoyfs, since they are also "card advantage". Synergy with the stalactite stalkers too.
Is there any thought to bringing in something like a gingerbrute/agatha's soul cauldron package to make Slasher harder to block? You could also bring in a "pay x to untap this creature" to further power up the cauldron and reduce the downside of Slasher getting killed (two turns of stun).
I don't know if its too mana intensive but the unstoppable slasher plus bloodletter of alcazotz combo is quite interesting in standard and i wonder if there is a mono black control shell that would work for legacy? (It also runs grevious wound but i don't think that card is remotly legacy viable)
I saw slasher and I thought of legacy immediately. This is a pre-video comment, so I don't know if it works yet, but it FELT right for legacy fast mana.
Unfortunately WotC has not printed a "Collected Company" for enchantments quite yet, so you can't get the Phyrexian Unlife combo onto the battlefield at instant speed.
I know it's not a good idea because math. But the idea of running Lightning Greaves so you can go Ritual x2, Boots, Slasher, equip, serve on Turn 1 makes me giggle.
On paper a three mana 7/6 is strong but in practice the card disadvantage isn't worth it. For the same mama cost you can have a barrowgoyf giving you card advantage instead. I love rotting regisaur and wish it was just a week bit more viable lol@@MinstrelSauce
I love this deck! It's not the traditional leyline/helm combo but an actual beatdown deck. It does seem to be light on card draw though. A couple Black Market Connections you can get out early with Dark Ritual, along with Toxic Deluge which won't get rid of your slashers or really your Llurgoyfs since the opponent's creatures will die and grow it more... Hey, have you considered Death's Shadow for the deck?

Dual land choices in strictly monocolor decks always fascinate me. Why white-black rather than take the chance to bluff Forg?
It's THRABEN U, he needs to bluff dnt.
I guess the answer is boil? Do people play island hate in current legacy?
@@thiccroissant I wish.
Choke, I guess? No one maindecks that tho and the only way they'd bring it in is if Phil played undercity sewers then conceded with no spells cast

@30:42 your opening salvo & response on Game 3 Round 2 was savage... Mono-B singing my songs!
🎶He’s hacking and slashing and wacking.🎶
It’s the Hash Slinging Slasher.
Always love a guest appearance by an even crazier brew. Room Dredge!?
Yes! There's a new video coming today. The deck is sweet and completely crazy.

Phil did the thing!
i've had the idea of mono black moon stompy, where use use contamination and exanguinator cavalry to kind of mirror the red moon stompy lists
I think part of the problem is making black mana is still useful in this meta game
Phil has done that before, and yes he has paired against 4-color control with the absent color being black.
honestly shocked at the absence of Exsanguinator Cavalry here
When you have to side a card out, cut Emperor of Bones, I can't remember what it does anyway. 😛
37:17 It feels weird mainphase fetching surveil. But I think you need to here to grow the Stalker. Unfortunately it ended up being extremely relevant.
It could be a backup for a reanimate deck. Or Nethervoid stax

So many Mono Black that I think the channel logo should change Thalia to Gisa
40:00 you could have traded slasher for reclaimer and stalker for wight and would have been ok if you drew another creature
Wizards really just made micheal myers as a card and its perfect no notes
i think slasher could be good in a dead guy brew with solemnity, wouldnt that just make him truly immortal like a true 90s slasher flick monster?

The Atraxa doesn't have a void counter on it, it was pitched to Endurance.
